StaticMothDust is the poly ship between Vox, Valentino and Angel Dust from the Hazbin Hotel fandom.
Canon[]
Valentino is the common link between Vox and Angel Dust, with Vox being one of Val's fellow overlords that make up the Vees, while Angel works for the Moth Demon from having sold his soul to him. Allowing Val to do whatever he wants to Angel within the tower, as part of their "physical relationship." Valentino also has an on and off relationship with Vox, as well as being his business partner who gets called in to calm Val down whenever he has one of his outbursts. Angel has found himself on the receiving end of his boss's rage, with Val abusing him and is shown to favour him among the rest of his contacted souls. Angel knows that Vox is no better than Valentino and the two don't get along, with Vox having a dislike for Angel and uses Val to gain assess to him. Unlike Angel, Vox and Valentino are Overlords who use souls like Angel for personal gain.
Season One[]
Before the events of the main series, Valentino and Vox didn't know that Angel had moved out of V Tower and into the Hazbin Hotel, until "Radio Killed the Video Star." Once Val found out about Angel's move, he flies into a rage and Velvette had to call Vox to deal with him down, much to the TV demon's annoyance. Vox acts calm and doesn't flinch whenever Val throws things at him or smashes his phone against the wall, as he attends to Val. Because Val owns a large number of souls, however, Vox asks the Moth Demon to be more clear on which "whore" he is upset with, while Val acts like Vox should know that he would be talking about Angel. Hearing Valentino rant about Angel and how he was the one who made him famous, before saying words that got Vox to quirky assume that Angel had quite working for Valentino, the TV Demon was shown to be quite happy about it as he asks Val if that was the case. Only to learn that Angel had simply moved, but still comes and goes between the hotel and tower for work. Although Vox was amused by Valentino asking him which gun makes him look sexier, as Val intends to use one of them to remind Angel of his place by attacking the hotel, Vox talks him out of it. By saying that Val chasing after Angel would make everyone else think he can't control his employees, and because Val still has Angel under contract Vox reassures his business partner that Angel isn't going anywhere. Valentino agrees to do nothing, pleasing Vox with his answer, but wanting to put Angel in his place had left Val with a need to shoot someone, so Vox offers to call up the lowest earners to cheer him up. After Valentino informs Vox that the Radio Demon is also at the hotel with Angel, Vox asks Val if Angel would be up for serving as their spy, but Angel hadn't been returning any of his boss's calls, so Vox had to find someone else to be their inside man.
Just as "Radio Killed the Video Star" showcased the kind of relationship Valentino has with Vox, a brief scene from the second episode also gives a glimpse of what his relationship with Angel is like. While the fourth episode, "Masquerade" reveals the abuse Angel suffers from his boss. With Val using threats and violence to keep Angel in line, making think that he won't be able to change and uses sweet talk in attempts to make Angel think that he cares about him. Since the words used in the two songs, "ADDICT" and "Poison" subjects that Angel had feelings for Val, before realizing that everything the Moth Demon told him were lies and now he is stuck with him. The words Val uses to bring Angel down and to do what he wants, is a bit similar to how Vox says the right things to get Val to calm down and see things his way, so Val won't affect the image that the Vees have built. Unlike Vox, who is shown to know how to handle an enraged Valentino with calm and confidence, Angel is shown to be scared of Val when he's angry and ends up being thrown around as Val inflicts his rage on him. This has Angel wanting to be free from Val and has grown tried of his poison. At the end of the song "Poison," Angel spies Valentino holding hands with Vox, who was smiling at Val but as he noticed Angel looking at them, however, that smilies falters a little before he teleports away, Val had also noticed Angel looking at them and walks away after Vox left. Leaving Angel to feel far worse than he already was, from the work Val put him and his body through, while knowing that the man he loved is seeing someone else.
By the events of "Welcome to Heaven," however, Angel has managed to gather up the courage to stand up to Val and talk to him without fear, like Vox does. Angel was also hinted to have lost his feelings for Val, as he has developed feelings for Husk. As for Vox and Valentino at the end of "The Show Must Go On," after spying on the battle Angel took part in with his friends from the hotel, the two Overlords are shown to still in a relationship, as they sing and dance, while making plans to make Hell's future belong to the Vees.
Season Two[]
When Vox calls his fellows Vees into office during "New Pentious," he tells Valentino to stop slapping Angel in public, as it was affecting their image, and states that is wasn't funny any more; even though Vox tried to hold back his laugh before saying this. Valentino denies hurting Angel, so Vox plays video recordings he has of the times Val has slapped Angel, one of those captured occasions was from Val slapping Angel when he stood up to him at the Consent sex club. Valentino's response to this was "your obsessed with me," causing Vox to blush.
The third episode of the second season, "Hazbin Hotel: Behind the Curtin" reveals that Angel had at some point told Valentino the sin that got him sent to Hell, while being unaware that Val would share what he told him with Vox. The episode also reveals how Angel feels about Vox, knowing that he enjoys Val hurting him, as he tries to warn Charlie of how horrible the Vees are but she wouldn't listen. After Charlie subjected that they have Angel atone for his condemned sin, in hopes of getting him redeemed like Pentious to prove that it is possible to the two visiting Vees, Vox saw how Angel reacted to the mention of his sin and decides to not only taunt Angel with it but to expose him as a murderer. Along with him revealing how he came to know that Angel had killed his own father from Valentino, traumatizing Angel while he tried to stop him but Vox took great pleasure in exposing Angel's dark secret in front of those who think highly of him.
While Valentino was looking someone who could measure up to Angel in the events of "Scream Rain," Vox interrupts Val with the request of "borrowing" Angel for the next step of his plan. This leads to a fight between them as Valentino didn't like the way Vox had him waiting in the wings in "Silenced," and didn't like the idea of Vox and Angel standing in the spotlight without, Vox jokes about Val being jealous and tries to convince Valentino to hand Angel over to him with the promise of sex. After Velvette and Alastor butted in on Vox's behaviour towards his fellow Vees, Vox tries to make Valentino agree to his demand from his hypnotic eyes, but forgot that it doesn't work on Val and he gets angry at Vox for it, but in the end he allows Vox to gain access to Angel. When Angel got an altar from Valentino he thought he was being called in for a porn shoot, but Valentino tells him that plans have changed and he will be entertaining a client, as Valentino leaves Angel to enter the motel he was waiting for Angel at. The "client" Val told Angel of turned out to be Vox, who wasted no time to use his hypnotic abilities on him. Angel tries to resist and Vox attacks him, saying that he wanted to do that for a long time. Vox also reveals to Angel that he has been under his control and been acting as his spy within the hotel, since season one. Valentino knew about this as well and a flashback shows that he allowed Vox to hypnotized Angel during one of the times he came into work. The episode ends with Angel placed deeper under Vox's control, despite his best effort to resist, and is seen standing beside Valentino as he holds Angel's hand, after Vox made a call to obtain their power source.
Moments[]
- When Valentino saw Angel flirting with an none paying customer, on the monitors in his penthouse, Val tries to get Vox's attention, but Vox was too focused on another demon at the hotel. Vox becoming enraged by Alastor's return gets Val to draw his attention away from Angel, and begins to focus on Vox.
Fanon[]
StaticMothDust is the result of Valentino being in relationships with both Vox and Angel, even though the nature of those relationships are different to one another and the Moth Demon is known to be abusive. With the (now deleted and non-canon) Voxtagram accounts indicating that Angel wasn't Valentino's only abuse victim, and fans sometimes use this (no longer canon) fact in their fanworks of the poly ship, by having Angel defend Vox from Val. Whenever they aren't having the three be in a happy relationship with one another.
Due to the rivalry of StaticMoth and ValAngel, however, it has created a common theme of Vox and Angel fighting over Valentino, and viewing one another as rivals. While Valentino finds it amusing. Even though the two Overlords are in an on and off relationship, Angel has been treated as Val's favourite toy and that has fans picture Vox mistreating Angel as well. With it being subjected that the TV Demon isn't fund of his partner's biggest earner, might have a jealously complex, and the VoxTech security camera seen in Angel's dressing also hints that Val may not be the only Vee who has control over Angel. The theory makes it easy for fans to depict Val and Vox teaming up to abuse Angel together and sharing him with one another, as Val gets Vox to see why he is obsessed with Angel, or simply have Val ask Vox to help him remind Angel of his place. By using his hypnotic ability on Angel or have his cameras find him, whenever Angel tries to run away from the Vees or just wants to spend his free time outside their tower. Another common theme involving Vox's cameras is of the two Overlords using them to record Angel for their personal entertainment, with Valentino using the VoxTech cameras in the building to give Vox his own private show, as he has his way with Angel. Because of the abuse and mistreatment people see the two Vees inflicting upon Angel, it has some fan writers give Angel a distrust in Overlords, even though Angel is shown to get along Alastor.
In a few versions of the Overlord Angel AU, Angel is depicted as a rival of the two Vees, after breaking free from Val. Having the Moth Demon wanting Angel back, while Vox tries to Val out of it and doesn't see Overlord Angel as a threat. Whenever fan artists and writers don't have Angel using his Overlord gained power and title to get back at the Vees. There have also been rare occasions when fans of the poly ships have Overlord Angel be an ally of the Vees.
