Steam Momma is the family ship between Momma McCoy and Rusty from the Starlight Express fandom.

After Pearl decides she won't race with Rusty in the World Championship, he sadly goes to see Momma. Momma asks why Rusty looks so sad and Rusty explains what happened with Pearl. Momma suggests that he race with one of the freight, but Rusty says that he won't, believing that he has no chance to win. Momma says that he has to believe, as she is a steamer and was a champion before, he's just too blind to see it. Rusty says that he sees that there's no power in steam, and that electricity is faster now, but Momma won't hear it. She wants to hear him say steam, and he does, but not very powerfully. She starts to sing the song of the Starlight Express to get his confidence up, but they're interrupted by Control calling for race time in five minutes. Momma asks if Rusty's going, but Rusty refuses without Pearl. Momma then decides that she'll race and asks if one of the freight will race with her, and Rusty calls her mad. He points out that the race is full and there will be no room for steam today, when Control calls that there's space for late entry. Momma then takes Dustin and the two go off to race.
Momma is able to secure a spot in the finals but is completely exhausted from the first heat. Rusty comes over and tells her he did great, but realizes that she worked to hard and has gone cold. Momma tells him that she proved she could do it, but won't be able to continue. However, she did secure a spot and tells Rusty that she wants him to race in her place. Rusty says no and Momma asks if she needs to kill herself for him to see straight. Rusty still won't, when Greaseball begins throwing remarks at the two, and Electra arrives with Pearl. Rusty then says he will race in Momma's place, and the trains surround him and say he'll be a laughing stock. Momma is happy that Rusty finally believes and Rusty says that he has no other choice, given he's got no chance.

Momma being Rusty's mother is a popular theory in the StEx fandom. It is thought to be canon by many for a few reasons. Both are the only two steamers in the show, and Momma tends to act like a mother figure to Rusty throughout.
It is hard to tell the exact number of fics for the two on AO3, due to the Momma and Poppa tags being combined. So it's hard to tell which fics are about which based on the tags. Though it is one of the more popular gen pairings in the StEx tag, as well as one of the most written for Momma.
