Robin“If only we could just, like, combine.”
Steve“Combine?”
Robin“No, think about it. I know exactly what I want, and I've found the girl of my dreams, but I can't get the courage to ask her out. Meanwhile, you go on a million dates. And you have no idea what you want. So if we just combined, all our problems would be solved. Because, I mean, alone, let's face it...”
Steve“We totally suck.”
Robin“Totally and utterly.”

Stobin is the friendship between Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley from the Stranger Things fandom.

Canon[]

Steve and Robin begin as coworkers at Scoops Ahoy. Steve spends most of his time trying to flirt with female customers, Robin keeping track of how many times he's failed. When Dustin shows up to speak with Steve, Robin jokingly says "your children are here."

When Robin discovers the conspiracy Steve and Dustin have gotten involved in, she offers to help them, no strings attached. While she translates one of the messages, Dustin and Steve discuss the latter asking her out.

While investigating a transportation company, the three of them hide on a roof. Robin and Steve hold hands without noticing, pulling away when they realize it.

Later in Season 3, Robin and Steve get captured by Russian agents. Steve is drugged, causing Robin to panic and spit in the guard's face. They attempt to escape once the guards leave and fall over, laughing hysterically at their predicament. Steve admits he regrets not talking to her in class and says "it was fun while it lasted."

Before getting broken out, Steve and Robin are injected with a truth drug. They suffer the euphoric side effects for most of the episode and get put in a movie theater by Dustin. There, the two friends eat popcorn and laugh about their confusion. Eventually, they leave the theater to get water, before throwing up in the bathroom.

While in the bathroom, Steve tells Robin about his history with Nancy and that he now has feelings for someone else. While she is very flattered, she comes out to him as a lesbian. Steve takes it very well considering the time period and says he's okay remaining friends.

In the final episode of Season 3, Steve and Robin apply for a job at a video store together. Robin helps Steve get through the interview after he bombs it, and they both get hired.

Quotes[]

“Hey, dingus, your children are here.”
— Robin to Steve, Suzie, Do You Copy?
Robin“And another one bites the dust. You are oh-for-six, Popeye.”
Steve“Yeah, yeah, I can count.”
Robin“You know that means you suck.”
Steve“Yep, I can read, too.”
Robin“Since when?”
Steve“It's this stupid hat. I am telling you, it is totally blowing my best feature.”
Robin“Yeah, company policy is a real drag. You know, it's a crazy idea, but have you considered... telling the truth?”
Steve“Oh, you mean, that I couldn't even get into Tech and my douchebag dad's trying to teach me a lesson, I make three bucks an hour, and I have no future? That truth?”
— Suzie, Do You Copy?
“How many children are you friends with?”
— Robin to Steve, The Mall Rats
Dustin“So do you really just get to eat as much of this as you want?”
Steve“Yeah. I mean, sure. It's not really a good idea for me, though. I gotta keep in shape for the ladies.”
Robin“Yeah, and how's that working out for you?”
Steve“Ignore her.”
Dustin“She seems cool.”
Steve“She's not.”
— The Mall Rats
Robin“Do you remember, um, Mrs. Click's sophomore history class?”
Steve“What?”
Robin“Mrs. Clickity-Clackity. That's what us band dweebs called her. It was first period, Tuesdays and Thursdays, so you were always late. And you always had the same breakfast. Bacon, egg, and cheese on a sesame bagel. I sat behind you two days a week for a year. Mister Funny. Mister Cool. The King of Hawkins High himself. Do you even remember me from that class? Of course you don't. You were a real asshole, you know that?”
Steve“Yeah, I know.”
Robin“But it didn't even matter. It didn't matter that you were an ass. I was still... obsessed with you.”
— E Pluribus Unum
Steve“You know, I wish I'd known you in Click's class.”
Robin“Yeah?”
Steve“Really, I do. Maybe you could've helped me pass the class. Maybe instead of being here, I'd be on my way to college right now.”
Robin“And I would have no idea that there were evil Russians beneath our feet, and I would be happily slinging ice cream with some other schmuck.”
Steve“Gotta say, though, I liked being your schmuck. It was fun while it lasted.”
Robin“It was.”
— E Pluribus Unum
Robin“You put your mom down as a reference?”
Steve“Yeah. Why not? She's, like, super well-respected.”
Robin“You're such a dingus.”
— The Battle of Starcourt
Robin“All right, you have to understand, Keith, I know his taste is a bit pedestrian, but the dingus has other qualities.”
Keith“He's a douchebag of the highest order, Robin.”
Robin“He was a bit of a prick to us in high school, I'll grant you that, but he remains... a total chick magnet.”
Keith“Yeah, okay, and this is relevant to me how?”
Robin“Uh, Earth to Keith. The ladies will come in just to see him. They'll come in in droves. Droves, Keith. We sold so much ice cream, they had to get a second shipment in from Michigan. Goddamn Michigan, Keith. And these ladies... These ladies are hot. They're so very hot. And there are too many of them for little Steve. He needs assistance. He needs your assistance, Keith.”
Keith“What's in it for you? You got a thing for him or something?”
Robin“We're just, um... We're just friends.”
— Robin convincing Keith to hire Steve, The Battle of Starcourt
Robin“Oh, I'm hopeless.”
Steve“Eh. We both are.”
— Vecna's Curse
Robin“If only we could just, like, combine.”
Steve“Combine?”
Robin“No, think about it. I know exactly what I want, and I've found the girl of my dreams, but I can't get the courage to ask her out. Meanwhile, you go on a million dates. And you have no idea what you want. So if we just combined, all our problems would be solved. Because, I mean, alone, let's face it...”
Steve“We totally suck.”
Robin“Totally and utterly.”

Behind the Scenes[]

Rolling Stone“I really can't have Robin die, because I've been dreaming of a Nineties spinoff featuring her and Steve.”
Maya Hawke“Where we go to New York and we're just partying in the clubs and figuring our shit out. Normally I wouldn't really be a proponent of a spinoff, but if I got to do it with Joe Keery, I would do anything. He's so funny and wonderful and smart, and he's got great boundaries. He's an excellent coworker, and I would do anything with him.[1]
Yahoo Entertainment“Do you hope Robin gets an on-camera girlfriend this season?”
Maya Hawke“I don't know, I feel mixed about it. I feel like that's both a great thing, and I also love characters where their love life is not the center of their existence. And that friendship with Steve is so special, and friendships have been carrying me through my life. I think they're really important and they deserve their airtime.[2]

Fanon[]

When Robin was initially introduced, the fanbase started shipping her and Steve. Now that she has come out as a lesbian, many people have turned to shipping them platonically. People also greatly appreciated Steve's reaction to Robin coming out, another sign of his character development.

On AO3, Robin & Steve is the most written ship for Robin and the third most written ship for Steve. It is also the fourth most written ship in the Stranger Things (TV 2016) tag. Robin/Steve is noticeably less popular.
