SuSu is the femslash ship between Li Sushang and Susannah Manatt from the Honkai fandom.
Canon[]
Sushang and Susannah are both Schicksal Valkyries of S-Rank and B-Rank respectively. Susannah is known to fangirl over S-Rank Valkyires and naturally admires Sushang as well. They briefly interacted in Kolosten.
Midnight Chronicle[]
Susannah is at Arc City for a mission to patrol Honkai Energy monitors. While attempting to take a photo, she accidentally spills water and triggers a large HOMU King doll to go on a rampage. A little girl gets caught in the mess, so Susannah shields her, preparing for a blow. Just then, Sushang arrives and defeats the doll. As Sushang helps her up, Susannah looks at Sushang in awe, perceiving the scene with a flowery romantic perspective. Sushang compliments Susannah for her bravery, though Susannah responds modestly. Upon realizing who just saved her, Susannah squeals, referring to Sushang as "Sushang-sama." She is surprised Sushang remembers who she is. As they talk, Susannah admires Sushang's beauty, talent, and voice. Sushang applies her handmade ointment on Susannah's sprained ankle, which she explains is an ointment her master always made for her in the past. As compensation for dealing with the rampaging doll, the HOMU world managers gives a girls unlimited passes to their game center. Susannah and Sushang talk some more, where Susannah explains her solo mission. Sushang tells her that she's happy to help if needed, though Susannah insists Sushang should enjoy her vacation time and use their unlimited passes at the game center. Sushang wishes her luck and goes to have some fun at the arcade.
A bit later, Sushang overhears a conversation between Susannah and a porcelain shop owner. Susannah had accidentally broken some pots, profusely apologizing, but she doesn't have enough money to pay back the angry shop owner. Sushang interrupts and throws three coins at the store owner's feet. From her knowledge on ancient Chinese housewares, she is easily able to identify the pots as counterfeits. This puts Sushang in a bit of a somber mood, remembering that she is one of the few people from that time period living today. Susannah breaks her out of her thoughts by requesting a picture as a souvenir. Sushang agrees as is shocked by the flash of the camera, which Susannah apologizes for. Susannah bids goodbye to continue her mission. Sushang secretly wanted Susannah to stay a bit longer, but she bids goodbye as well, not wanting to interfere further. Just then, Susannah calls her name, pointing out a large Honkai beast that emerged from an alleyway. Sushang defeats the Honkai beast, which turned out to be a doll replica. Susannah is frustrated at herself for her tendency to cower when in a critical situation. Sushang is reminded of her younger self when she had to spar her master for the first time. She thinks of how her master comforted her, saying not to be afraid for they will work together. So Sushang asks to accompany Susannah during her time in the city, which makes Susannah feel better.
The last spot of their patrols is a shipping hub devoid of people. They find the HOMU world manager, who recounts an urban legend of a headless ghost being sighted here. The girls are slightly scared, but continue on the mission. As Susannah repairs an unusually broken Honkai monitor, she notices what appears to be the ghost the manager described. Sushang realizes that it's just a Honkai beast and defeats it. Sushang remarks that it's a relief that it was just a Honkai beast, which amuses Susannah a bit since she never expected Sushang to be afraid of such things. The girls notice a claw machine, so Susannah attempts to impress Sushang by obtaining the secret edition HOMU emperor from it. After a dozen tries, she isn't successful and decides to give up. But Sushang doesn't want to admit defeat so easily. Sushang teleports into the machine and holds up the HOMU with a smile. Susannah, a stickler for the rules, panics and urges Sushang to put it back. Just then, they notice a truck, unusual in such an abandoned area, which creepily doesn't have a visible driver.
Susannah notes that more monitors are losing parts. They overhear two kids talking about an old haunted factory, unsettling the two even further. On the way to the train station, Susannah is on the verge of falling asleep, which worries Sushang. Susannah expresses that she doesn't want to slow Sushang down and that she's spent her whole life trying to catch up with everyone else. Sushang shares that despite not being as gifted as her master, she worked hard her entire life. Although it made her feel deflated, she learned to let go of those feelings because she knows that everyone has their path to follow in life. Then, the two notice what appears to be a will-o'-whisp and investigate, and it turns out be yet another Honkai beast. Sushang fights it off and they barely make it to the train in time.
On the train, Susannah says that she will write a report and send a request for field investigators. Sushang remarks that she could just defeat the Honkai beasts herself, but Susannah replies that she must comply with Shicksal regulations. She falls asleep on Sushang's shoulder, and Sushang looks at her fondly. Sushang reads the Arc City travel guide, hoping to bring Susannah along because of how hard she worked. Sushang notices the round full moon. Out loud, she comments that today is the day of moon gazing, which wakes Susannah up. Sushang asks if today is the day of moon gazing, though Susannah isn't aware of the holiday. Sushang explains the importance and customs of the holiday, as well as the legend of Chang'e. She believes the market must be bustling tonight with shops and troupe shows. Sushang and Susannah look for the busiest district in the guide book and look forward to celebrating.
When they arrive, they are confused to see no signs of celebration. Sushang asks around and eventually an elderly woman tells her that people these days have no interest in gazing at the full moon anymore, making Sushang feel lonely once again in this modern time period. To comfort her, Susannah buys some authentic mashed taro cakes. Sushang reminisces on eating these cakes with her family and later, her master, to celebrate reunions. Sushang remarks that she is the only one left. Susannah replies that she is here, that the two of them together counts as a reunion, making Sushang feel better. Susannah explains that when she got homesick, she would eat the foods from her hometown. Sushang recalls when her master made a lantern out of an orange peel and suggests they release their own lanterns.
Sushang walks Susannah through making an orange lantern then tells her to make a wish. Susannah wishes to be an S-Rank valkyrie, wanting to be acknowledged for her skills one day. When asked about her own wish, Sushang gets lost in thought for a bit. She explains that she had always been living for others' wishes, such as her parents and Otto. So her wish is to not have any wishes. Susannah thought an S-Rank valkyrie would wish to save the world, but Sushang prefers to just go wherever her heart takes her. The two release their orange lanterns into the river. Susannah remarks that she wants to be more like Sushang, apologizing for all the trouble she's caused her. Sushang replies that it's no big deal, and that Susannah's only problem is over-worrying about the few things she's done wrong. Susannah admits that when she joined Schicksal, she wanted to do everything. But as she made more mistakes, she got more nervous to do anything and became dependent on others and Schicksal guidelines. Sushang says that if she makes a mistake to just improve the next time. To live her life, she should give her all instead of giving up in fear of failing. Susannah remarks that Sushang is the strongest and coolest. Sushang replies that Susannah is strong in her own way, such as protecting that girl or being able comfort her when she felt homesick. She encourages Susannah to be more confident, and gifts her a HOMU plushie. Eventually, a security guard reprimands the two for littering. Sushang grabs her hand and runs, smiling.
The two outrun the security guard and find themselves in a HOMU factory. The two figure that this must be the haunted factory the kid mentioned and are a bit scared. Sushang defeats yet another Honkai beast and finds a license plate on the ground matching the one from the phantom truck they saw. Susannah wants to request for backup, but Sushang wants to investigate right away so that more people aren't put in danger. Susannah insists that it would be irresponsible to rush into danger, that it would protect more people to form a plan first. Unwavering in their opposing beliefs, Sushang goes to confront the danger while Susannah stays behind to report the situation.
From her investigations, Sushang finds out that the porcelain shop owner and HOMU world manager have been stealing the Honkai monitor parts, hiding them in the counterfeit pots, then selling them. They explain that they live past the protected parts of Arc City and sell the parts to form their own Honkai Defense Network. Sushang realizes that Susannah is right, that one person isn't enough to solve a problem. She then realizes in dread that Susannah could be in danger from the excess Honkai energy emitting from the parts where Susannah is.
Meanwhile, Susannah patrols the industrial park. Thinking back, she realizes she was a bit harsh to Sushang and hopes to apologize to her once she's done. Susannah repairs all of the monitors, impressed with her speed. On the way out, she notices the HOMU Sushang gave her is gone and rushes back to retrieve it. Just then, Sushang arrives with a worried expression and alerts Susannah of a Honkai beast right next to her. Susannah is petrified in fear and so Sushang grabs her waist to pull her away. Sushang apologizes for going back on her word and forgetting the importance of working together. Susannah replies that she was wrong as well, though their conversation is cut short. Sushang is overwhelmed by the amount of Honkai beasts. Susannah comes up with an idea to put a monitor part backwards, which would attract Honkai beasts and give Sushang an opportunity to wipe them out. Sushang worries that she'll get hurt, but Susannah is determined not to stand by the sidelines this time. Sushang is taken aback, then smiles, agreeing to the plan.
After Susannah's mission is over, Sushang buys her some milk tea. They have an amicable talk, then go silent as they realize their separation is imminent, since Susannah has no reason to stay in Arc City. Sushang tells her to be safe and to believe in herself more. Susannah wraps her pinkie around Sushang's, promising that one day, she'll be a Valkyrie that can stand on her own like Sushang. They say goodbye, and Sushang walks away. She had forgotten what it was like saying goodbye, and feels lonely after being with a companion for so long. Sushang decides to turn around, where she finds that Susannah hasn't moved. Susannah beams and runs over. She knows Sushang doesn't like being tied down, but she decided to buy her a cellphone to remember her by. With that, Susannah departs for real, though Sushang has no idea how to use the phone.
"Susannah, how have you been?"
Back at Schicksal, Susannah struggles writing her mission report, not wanting to omit anything so she can remember these memories in the future. Alvitr gives her the developed photos, including her photo with Sushang where she is startled by the camera flash. Susannah wonders what Sushang is doing at the moment, and regrets leaving so quickly out of nervousness that she forgot to give Sushang her number. She and Alvitr talk for a bit, and Susannah receives a text from Sushang asking how she is doing.
