Subspace Trio is the friendship between King Dedede, Luigi and Ness from the Super Smash Bros. fandom.
Canon[]
These three characters only ever interact in the Subspace story in Brawl as a trio.
King Dedede and Luigi are introduced in the same cutscene, with Dedede ambushing Luigi and turning him into a trophy, just as Wario arrives in his Wargo, having already turned Ness and Peach/Zelda into trophies. King Dedede goes into hiding, baiting Wario with Luigi's trophy. When Wario proudly takes it, Dedede sends his army of Waddle Dees to overwhelm him. He drops Luigi's trophy into his Wargo, with King Dedede stealing it.
When it comes to a confrontation between Mario and Pit against Link and Yoshi, the winner will see the princess in King Dedede's Wargo, driving by, with King Dedede trying to secure the trophies of the loser. Kirby quickly puts a dent in the King's plan, cutting the Wargo's claw in two and freeing the losers of the confrontation. With the trophies of Luigi, Ness and one of the princesses still in tow, King Dedede confronts the five heroes, but manages to get away with the three trophies, the heroes chasing after him.
In Dedede's hideout, he polishes the trophies, giving each of them timer badges. But just as he finds his last badge on himself and puts it on the princess, the ceiling starts to shake and give way, with rubble falling on the King, knocking him unconscious and eventually turning him into a trophy himself. It was Bowser who destroyed Dedede's ceiling, jumping down with his minions to loot Dedede's property. Finding the trophy of the princess, he is content with leaving the other three fighters trapped in their trophy forms, beneath the rubble.
The five heroes finally find Dedede's hideout, but none of them bother to check under the rubble, closely missing Mario's brother, Kirby's frenemy and Ness.
With the Ancient Minister showing up and detonating a Subspace Bomb, Dedede's hideout is sucked into Subspace, with the trophies of the unlikely trio still inside. The timer on the badges runs out, allowing Luigi and Ness to break free from their trophy forms. Ness recognizes King Dedede's face on the badges and correctly deduces that Dedede intended for his trophies to eventually break free by themselves. He then frees King Dedede in turn, who is happily giving Luigi and Ness a big pat on their backs. He then takes out his hammer, causing Luigi to briefly yelp in fear, but King Dedede has no evil intentions, he is guiding his new friends through Subspace.
Upon finding the Great Maze, King Dedede notices Bowser's trophy and frees him, only for Bowser to turn on Dedede, they fight, King Dedede frees him again and Dedede eventually convinces the Koopa King to help them, all while Luigi and Ness are watching. The three friends and Bowser then make their way up to the Great Maze. But when Wario attacks King Dedede, Ness and Luigi are there to help him up. They all angrily glare and point at Wario, intimidating him enough for them to make their way up the stairs to the Great Maze. But then they watch Wario using his bike to shorten his way, while they are left climbing the very long and steep stairs.
In the end, it is up to the three of them to traverse the Great Maze and rescue the rest of the cast, alongside the characters they manage to free on the way.

The Subspace Trio is considered one of the most iconic team-ups in the history of the series, garnering tons of fanart and headcanons. This is especially impressive, since the characters only get to interact in four short cutscenes, with other team-ups getting far more screentime.
