Fearsome Womb Arc[]

Sukuna and Megumi first meet when Itadori swallows Sukuna's finger and inevitably gets possessed by him. Sukuna at first does not pay attention to Megumi as he focuses on fighting Satoru Gojo instead. When Gojo easily overpowers him and sits casually on Sukuna's back, Sukuna finds himself facing Megumi instead, who looks up at him in fear.

In the episode "Curse Womb Must Die", Sukuna appears before Megumi even has the chance to find Itadori and bring him back. Sukuna then proceeds to rip out Itadori's heart and take him hostage. Megumi and Sukuna end up fighting each other, with Sukuna clearly having the upper hand. As Megumi throws one punch after another, Sukuna amusingly says "Interesting. You use shikigami, but you'll still come at me yourself?" As he easily dodges Megumi's punches, he says "More. More. More!" He then grabs Megumi's fist and pulls him close to his face as he says, "Put more curse behind it when you strike me!" as he finishes with a bloody attack. Megumi tries to win against Sukuna using his Shikigami but inevitably fails to succeed as Sukuna almost kills him in the process.

During the battle, Sukuna appears to be impressed by Megumi's power and finds that he has strong potential. He quietly contemplates to himself that Megumi's Jujutsu technique isn't just any generic technique but instead is "adaptable." He tells Megumi that it was a "waste of talent" (in the anime) or that it was a "wasted treasure" (in the manga) that Megumi ran away from the Special Grade earlier. When Megumi feels cornered in this battle, he resorts to his final trump card and begins to summon Mahoraga by gathering his Cursed Energy. In response to this, Sukuna is especially impressed and excitedly cries out, "Entertain me, Fushiguro Megumi!"

After remembering that he wants to save people regardless of fairness, Megumi tries to reach Itadori despite Sukuna's current possession of his body and tells him that he never regretted saving him. Moved by his words, Yuji regains control of his body. When Megumi sees that Itadori has returned, he lets go of his Cursed Energy before Mahoraga is ever summoned. Itadori smiles and tells Megumi to live a long life before collapsing to his "death."

When Itadori wakes up in Sukuna's innate domain, Sukuna proposes to bring him back to life as long as they have a contract. Itadori tells him he just doesn't want to die either. Sukuna says that the situation has changed because in time, they will both be able to see something interesting. As he says this, he thinking back on Megumi.

While training for the Exchange event, Megumi is contemplating on how to store weapons, when he thinks back on Sukuna's words, "Back then, why did you run?" This leads to Megumi figuring out that he can store weapons in his shadow. He lets out a rare genuine smile as he tells Maki Zenin that he believes he has figured it out.

Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc[]

In a flashback, Suguru Geto is seen speaking to Mahito, Hanami, and Jogo. Geto believes that one of the students acts as a landmine for Sukuna, and if they were to kill the student, all of their current plans will be ruined. The student he thinks of as the landmine for Sukuna is Megumi.

Death Painting Arc[]

When Megumi is battling the Finger Bearer, Megumi thinks back on Sukuna's words again, calling him a "wasted treasure." This, together with Gojo's words, encourages Megumi to unlock his incomplete Domain Expansion. When Megumi passes out after unleashing his Domain Expansion and successfully defeating the Finger Bearer, Sukuna is seen observing from his inner domain. He is again impressed by Megumi and while grinning widely, he compliments, "Good. That's very good." When Megumi passes out, he is still holding Sukuna's finger in his hands.

Vs. Mahito Arc[]

Whilst almost killing Mahito, Sukuna said that if he dies or if anyone else dies, he truly doesn't care with the exception being Megumi.

Shibuya Incident Arc[]

During the Shibuya Incident Arc in which he fights against Haruta Shigemo, Megumi releases his powerful untamed Shikigami, Mahoraga in an attempt to take down his opponent with him. The exorcism of Mahoraga pulls both him and Haruta into the ritual. Megumi is immediately knocked into unconsciousness by Mahoraga and is in a state of "suspended death" until the target dies as well. Once Haruta is killed, Megumi's own true death will promptly follow, completing the ritual. At that point, Sukuna had taken control of Itadori's body and had just encountered Uraume again. When Megumi is knocked out by Mahoraga, Sukuna immediately senses this and his reunion with Uraume is interrupted. He immediately travels to Megumi's location.

Sukuna places his hand over Megumi's chest and partially heals him, telling him not to die as there is something he needs him to do. In order to save Megumi, Sukuna engages in a battle with Mahoraga rather than with Haruta. Sukuna calculates the radius of his domain in order to not involve and harm Megumi. As his battle with Mahoraga proves rather difficult, he admires its power and contemplates to himself that if it were him from that time he first saw Megumi almost unleash Mahoraga, it may have been able to beat him then (as Itadori had not consumed as many of Sukuna's fingers at that time). Right before he unleashes his domain expansion, Sukuna chuckles to himself as he says, "You showed me the way, Fushiguro Megumi!" After the exorcism is over, Sukuna carries an unconscious Megumi and teleports him outside the curtain cast by Curse Users so that he can be healed by Shoko Ieri.

Itadori Extermination Arc[]

Itadori tells Choso he is worried because Sukuna is planning something involving Megumi.

Perfect Preparation Arc[]

Itadori tells the same thing to Yuta Okkotsu: Sukuna is plotting something for Megumi.

Culling Game Arc[]

Thinking of Sukuna, Itadori tells Megumi they should be on separate teams, only for Megumi to yell at him to shut up.

After meeting Hana Kurusu, Itadori tells Megumi that Sukuna is the reincarnated sorcerer known as "The Fallen".

Megumi is distraught after learning his sister, Tsumiki, was made into the incarnated host of the Heian era sorcerer known as Yorozu. Seizing the opportunity, Sukuna uses the binding vow he made with Itadori and uses the keyword "Enchain" to take control of his body. Sukuna then turns Yuji's left pinky finger into a cursed object and tears it off. Not understanding Sukuna's goal but still trying to stop him, Megumi tries to summon Mahoraga but is stopped by Sukuna. Sukuna force feeds his finger to Megumi, making him his new vessel. Sukuna then reveals his plans for Megumi: when they fought he detected Megumi's potential and his capacity to supress him. Wanting to assure he had full control of the body, Sukuna had to wait until he recovered his power and for Megumi to be emotionally vulnerable to set his plan in motion. Now possessing Megumi, Sukuna fights Itadori and Maki. Megumi, who is unwilling to hurt his friends, fights from within to limit Sukuna's power, causing Sukuna to curse him. Sukuna escapes the fight with Uraume's help and tells them to prepare the bath for him.

The purpose of the bath is revealed: it allows Sukuna to get closer to evil and suppress Megumi's sense of self. Sukuna tells Kenjaku he is keeping Megumi's physical appearance because it is better suited to fight sorcerers. Furthermore, Sukuna tells Kenjaku he plans to kill Tsumiki to sink Megumi's soul even deeper into himself.

Meeting with Yorozu, into Tsumiki's body, Sukuna tells her he swapped bodies because Megumi's was better looking. Since he wants Megumi to feel like he killed his sister, Sukuna uses Megumi's Ten Shadows to fight her. We learn that Sukuna tamed at least two of Megumi's Shikigami: Round Deer and Piercing Ox. Sukuna kills Yorozu and Tsumiki making Megumi's soul sink deeper into the abyss.

Shinjuku Showdown Arc[]

Now fighting Gojo, Sukuna uses Megumi’s soul to adapt to his Unlimited Void five times. Sukuna keeps using Megumi's Ten Shadows to fight Gojo and we learn that Sukuna tamed the last Shikigami: Tiger Funeral. Later, Kusakabe theorised that Sukuna was left unable to use Megumi's Ten Shadows technique after his fight with Gojo.

As a result of Sukuna's actions, Megumi's will to live was completely extinguished and he was not willing to be rescued by Yuji and Yuta.

Quotes[]

“What a great cursed technique! [...] Your Shikigami use shadows as an intermediary, right? [...] I don't get it. Back then why did you run away? That was a wasted opportunity.”
— Sukuna talking to Megumi about his cursed technique[1]
“However, within Yuji Itadori dwells a forbidden soul. With no concern for anyone but himself he existed for leisure. For Ryomen Sukuna wether Nanami or Mahito survives doesn't matter at all. Only one person holds his interest. Aside from him [Megumi] he truly doesn't care about anyone else.”
— The narrator talking about Sukuna's motivations[2]
“There's something about Sukuna that doesn't align with what I was expecting. This is just a theory but there's a landmine for Sukuna among the students [Megumi]. Worst-case scenario, if we were to trigger it, our plan might be over.”
— Kenjaku talking about Sukuna and Megumi[3]
“Don't die. There's something I need you to do.”
— Sukuna talking to an unconscious Megumi[4]
“I knew this was a good idea to save this piece of trash [Haruta Shigemo]. He was most likely dragged into the exorcism ritual. If this trash is killed, that's the end of the ritual. Megumi Fushiguro will die as well. [...] In order to keep Fushiguro alive I need to defeat the shikigami even though I'm an outsider. Then the exorcism ritual will be void.”
— Sukuna coming to Megumi's aid[5]
“You showed me the way Megumi Fushiguro!”
— Sukuna talking about Megumi's technique[6]
“That day what I sensed from Fushiguro Megumi was his cursed technique's potential and his capacity to suppress me. It'd pose a problem if he turned out to be a "cage" just like that brat, instead of a "vessel". I could've just made Fushiguro Megumi swallow a finger but, to ensure full control over his body, I had to wait and recover my power in that brat's body until the right moment, the moment Fushiguro Megumi's soul shattered.”
— Sukuna about his plan for Megumi[7]
Kenjaku“What's the point of submerging in something like this?”
Uraume“To get closer to evil. We do this so that Fushiguro Megumi's sense of self. No, so that his soul sinks that much deeper.”
— Uraume explaining the purpose of Sukuna's bath[8]
“What I need is the vessel. destroying Fushiguro Tsumiki will completely sink Fushiguro Megumi within me.”
— Sukuna explaining how he intends to take control over Megumi's body[9]
Yorozu“Seems you took over a different kid this time.”
Sukuna“Yeah. I like this face much better.”
— Yorozu and Sukuna talking about his new vessel[10]
“In order to sink Fushiguro Megumi's soul, I have to destroy Fushiguro Tsumiki. If I kill her by only using his ten shadows technique, in a way, that blood will be on his hands. The scar I crave into his soul will be that much deeper.”
— Sukuna about his plan for Megumi[11]

Fanon[]

SukuFushi is a popular ship within the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom, fans often find their relationship intriguing since Sukuna has never been curious about another student in the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School other than Megumi. A lot of them use the trope "Enemies to Lovers" for their relationship due to Megumi hating Sukuna. A lot of ItaFushi shippers also include this ship as a side pairing.

The ship is very controversial to those who don't ship it due to Megumi and Sukuna's large age gap, as Megumi is 16 and Sukuna is 1000 years old. Many non-shippers of this ship argue that Sukuna doesn't want anything to do with Megumi and only wants him for power and his own plan.

SukuFushi is not only controversial due to the age gap but the relationship as well. Many fans believe that Sukuna and Megumi have a turbulent relationship, as Sukuna only wants to use Megumi and because Megumi hates him. Megumi had to watch many people that he loved suffer because of Sukuna multiple times and for that reason fans don't think even if Megumi was aged up they would make a good couple due to the toxicity of their relationship.

A lot of fans like to refer to Sukuna as "Simpkuna" since it's a joke in the fandom that because Sukuna is interested in Megumi so much, he is a "simp" for him. This inside joke in Jujutsu Kaisen fandom has been recognized by non-slash shippers as well, with the official Crunchyroll twitter account even participating with the ''simp Sukuna'' memes. [12]

In Modern (or University) AU's, Sukuna is usually portrayed as Itadori's delinquent twin brother or older brother in contrast to Megumi's strict and formal attitude. It is also a popular trope for both brothers rivaling each other for Megumi's affection.

Another popular trope is an unrequited love between Itadori and Megumi, the former not returning his feelings. But Sukuna, who shares the same body (or appearance if it is in Modern AU's), is very interested in Megumi which further complicates his feelings and his relationship with Itadori.

Historical AU's are also quite popular with this pairing, usually set in the Heian Period, the period in which Sukuna was defeated. In these AU's, Sukuna often has his true form, while Megumi is usually still human. Sometimes it's set when Sukuna was still human and due to Megumi's death, he becomes a curse.

SukuFushi is the rival ship of ItaFushi, SukuIta, and GoFushi, three other popular ships.

Trivia[]

  • When asked what technique he would like to use if he was a Jujutsu sorcerer, Sukuna's voice actor, Junichi Suwabe, answered that he would like to have Megumi's technique the Ten Shadows to summon the Divine Dogs. He said "I would summon the Divine Dogs and pet the heck out of them. I'd pet, love and cuddle Shiro and Kuro and never stop!"[13][14].
