- You... You're Poppy's angel. Come to save us. Nothing left to save, not here...
- —DogDay to the player
SunnyAngel is the non-binary ship between the player and DogDay from the Poppy Playtime fandom.
Canon[]
Deep Sleep[]
While exploring the Playcare, the player comes across DogDay's cell, finding him mutilated and crucified. Unlike most toys in the factory, DogDay speaks to the player in a friendly manner, explaining his situation and urging them to save themselves. He also seems to have prior knowledge of the player, since he mentions they're working for Poppy. However, his monologue is interrupted by the ruined Critters crawling into his body, eating him from the inside. He's then taken over by them, and forced to chase the player through another section of the Playcare.
There's also a cardboard cutout of the cartoon version of DogDay that the player can come across, that echoes the same sentiment as the Bigger Bodies version of him: Urging the player to escape.
Fanon[]
The ship gained traction soon after the chapter came out due to DogDay being one of the few toys that aren't hostile towards the player. Seeing how much he's been suffering and his cruel death, many players made AUs where they could save DogDay and take him with them, often giving him back his legs as well. The nickname DogDay gives the player, “Angel,” is often used as an affectionate pet name.
There's some controversy regarding the ship, with some people arguing its unethical due to DogDay possibly having been a child when converted into a Bigger Body, which would make the ship have a large age gap. Fans often dispute this by pointing out that it's also possible for DogDay to have been an employee at Playtime Co., since some of them were also used for experiments (willingly or not). This reading would instead make the player and DogDay ex-coworkers, removing any implications of an age gap. Other fans, however, simply ignore the implications of the player being an ex-employee of Playtime Co. in favor of treating them more like a self insert and headcanoning their own reasons for the player to explore the facility. While others ignore the person converted into a toy in favor of treating it as the cartoon-DogDay became sentient by becoming a bigger body in the real world, with or without the help of messing with human bodies in order to achieve that.
When paired next to SleepyDay (in any manner), it's common for fans to portray the Player as protective around DogDay (in general as well) especially when face-to-face with Catnap, considering the state the Player found DogDay in because of Catnap and The Prototype. Another common thing is also making humorous jokes on DogDay, saying stuff like "B-b-but I can fix him" or "But daddy I love him" ahh dialogue to the Player about Catnap. While in Catnap's pov, it commonly shows the AU where the Player saves DogDay as the Player "stealing" DogDay away from him (despite the way it sounds, no, it's usually not in a yandere way).
On AO3, as of December 1, 2024, there are 48 works under its romantic tag and 100 under the platonic tag. It is the most written ship for the player and the second most for DogDay on the site. Combined, it is the second most written ship for the game overall, only behind SleepyDay.
