“Hey Sunny... Thank you for everything. It's probably been tough to leave your house after all this time... but I really appreciate you for doing it for us.”
— Hero thanking and comforting Sunny

Sunset is the slash ship between Sunny and Hero from the Omori fandom.

Canon[]

Sunny and Hero are childhood friends, they are neighbors and met due to Sunny's sister Mari.

Sunny meets him again 4 years later, right before he almost drowned to death. When he almost drowned trying to save Basil, Hero rushed to save Sunny. After the curfuffle, both had a chance to talk, Hero talks about Sunny moving away soon. Trying to help him feel more comfortable with it, saying there is plenty of new experiences to have and how they don't have to miss each other too much as long as they keep in contact. In the Dream World the two are shown to be on good terms as well.

Later that day they go to Sunny's house to make a sleepover, Hero remarks how the song Sunny and Mari used to practice got stuck in his head. In bed, Hero talks privately with Sunny, he apologizes for not being there for him more. He also remarks how Sunny seemed to be pretty much the same, he feels kind of relieved and laughs a little about it. After 4 years, it is shown that Hero truly cares about Sunny. When Hero tags Sunny in the Real World, he is shown to slightly blush. Obviously, blushing doesn't mean a sign of crush. It is also possible that Sunny admired Hero a lot.

In the next day Hero does all of Sunny's chores and makes him breakfast, saying to him that he could see it as a parting gift. As their other childhood friend Aubrey's friend Kim arrives asking for help, Hero tries to mend the group together again since it's Sunny's last day there. In the last day's sleepover, Hero talks to Sunny again, thanking him for doing all of this, and once again comforting him about his soon departure and how he will always have them.

In a flashback, Hero asks Sunny if he should be a chef or not, if Sunny says yes, Hero will excitedly talk about how they're young and should dream big. While hanging out in the park, Sunny will daydream, Hero will remark his expression seemed so peaceful. Sunny often remarks on things that Hero does or has with a "wow...".

In the last sleepover, Sunny will comment on Hero, saying that he has always been someone you could rely on, that he is wise, capable, loving, and always puts others above himself, he is the kind of person that will always make himself available to help you, even to a fault. Sunny finishes with him saying that he will really miss him.

Hero is later on waiting for Sunny's response along with Kel and Aubrey after he had said "I have something to tell you".

Fanon[]

Sunset is a ship of different and yet so similar people overcoming common trauma and moving on together (similar to Sunflower in a way), both lost their most important person long ago, and went through similar experiences in the wake of that loss, Hero recovered much sooner than Sunny, but both went through, both had many expectations and pressures put on them since an early age, both are very empathetic people that care a lot about the people they love, both blames themselves over failing to help their loved ones, although for one that is more true.

it's also a ship of two halves being completed once together, as Hero is someone who so deeply cares about people around him that Sunny would certainly get as much love and care as one can get with him, Sunny on the other hand knows how crushing expectations and pressures can be, so he would be a solid base for Hero to just rest and not care as much. Ships like Sunburn or HeroMari overshadow this quite often.

The ship is quite unpopular in the fandom, as most other Hero ships, still, it managed to find its footing, with a small but reasonable amount of fanart and with 37 fics on AO3. The main problem the general fandom has seemed to be some things, the age gap, Sunny being Mari's little brother and Mari being Hero's girlfriend, and how the post-ending would work with Sunny being the one who killed Mari, besides some problematic content that managed to find it's way to the ship, but most of these are a matter of perspective and interpretation of the characters, or simple hiccups that must be overcome, after all relationships take time to form and develop, and the unfortunate problematic content that is close to this ship, although harder to deal with its always possible to ignore it, some shippers of this ship are attempting to clean the ship up, so maybe the issue will be resolved one day.
