Twilight confronts Sunset Shimmer in the hallway.
The newly crowned Princess Twilight arrived at the castle in the Crystal Empire for a princess summit. She is uncomfortable with her new state and her new wings. She tries to sleep and eventually succeeds. But, a mysterious mare steals her crown and runs off into a mirror. Princess Celestia reveals that it was her former student, Sunset Shimmer. She tasks Twilight to go into the mirror world to get back her crown (since it's also the most powerful Element of Harmony). Twilight and Spike goes to the mirror world. There, they realizes that they have been turn into a human and a dog respectively. Twilight ends up meeting Sunset after wandering into the Canterlot High School. The latter was bullying a human counterpart of Fluttershy. Twilight interrupts her and Sunset doesn't recognizes the princess. She talks down to her, saying that since she's new she shouldn't confront her. Twilight lears that her crown is being used as prize to the Princess Prom, and decided to compete to win it back. Sunset on the other hand has won the past three prom crowns and wasn't going to let the new girl win the very crown she needs for her plan.

The next time the two met they became friends, as Twilight helps Sunset fight a threat from their pony world who were formally Sirens with a singing gift and their band name is the Dazzlings. Sirens from history have caused enchanted conflicts in the pony world and Sunset noticed the anomaly while giving a school orientation to three new girls. The girls sang to the cafeteria and the human 7 witness the drastic change of the mood where negative energy filled the room and the pupils in Canterlot High were arguing. Twilight came to the human world to help sing and join the newly formed band, Rainboom. At first Sunset Shimmer was watching from the sidelines. As they realized when they associate music with pony up, Twilight kept testing for the phenomenon. The two share a moment during the sleepover at Pinkie's house.
Twilight was stressed at first to figure out the lyrics to the songs as she anticipated the battle of the bands with the Dazzling. Twilight kept trying the lyrics over and over, even when she sang appallingly at Applejack’s house at the band practice. During the elimination round, Sunset stood at the sidelines while Twilight sang as the lead. However the Dazzling confronted Sunset and caused doubt to Sunset about the friendship with the band and she has no part in the competition even when they were all qualified for the next round. The Rainbooms had their own internal conflict and when Trixie Lulamoon wanted to take revenge on the Rainbooms, so she trapped the girls backstage right before the final battle. Meanwhile with the girls trapped, the Dazzlings used their magic to mesmerize the crowd singing ‘Welcome to the Show’. Sunset realized the problem and solved it in time before Spike rescued them with DJ Pon and their internal issues were solved. As the Rainbooms entered the final battle they came up strong at first but the Dazzlings were overpowering them. That was until Twilight acknowledged Sunset to sing with the band and the Rainbooms defeated the Dazzlings with her final impromptu of their song. Meanwhile, Sunset Shimmer became more involved with the Rainbooms with not only singing but her amazing guitar skills.

Twilight enters the human world through the portal to find another version of herself.
The event of the Friendship Games has Sunset meeting Twilight's human counterpart, who is from her rival school. Sunset knows that this second Twilight, who is nicknamed Sci-Twi, is different from the first Twilight she befriended and this why she acted cruelly towards her. After the magic Sci-Twi stole from Sunset and her friends consumes her and transform Sci-Twi into Midnight Sparkle, Sunset remembers when she went through something similar and how the power of friendship is what allowed Princess Twilight to stop her, and later offered Sunset her friendship. Since it was Princess Twilight's kindness that got Sunset to change for the better, she decides to take a page from Twilight's book by offering Sci-Twi her friendship. Princess Twilight Sparkle mainly remained in Equestria as she has princess duties to attend to.
Sci-Twi[]

At first, Sci-Twilight Sparkle attends a prestigious school in Crystal Prep High and she was unhappy socially. Sci-Twi was often picked on at school and the pupils for Crystal Prep didn't like her very much. She was close to her sister-in-law Cadence who is the Vice Principal and is married to her brother, Shining Armour. Principal Cinch requested that Sci-Twi would be a great representative to battle the students in Canterlot High School to maintain the school's high reputation. Sci-Twi did not have friends to hangout, her first visit Canterlot High was peculiar as everyone greeted her as though she was a celebrity. She wore a device that tracks suspicious magical activity around her neck. As she tracked the magic in Canterlot High, the most known spot was the portal within the Canterlot memorial statue. When meeting the human 6, the girls were friendly to her as they knew she Sci-Twi was Princess Twilight Sparkle's counterpart.
During the competition, Sci-Twi and Sunset Shimmer competed in mathematics. Sunset was also smart as she was willing to solve the geometry, however due to pressure she had the incorrect answer and instead the round went to Sci-Twi.
Sci-Twi's device unfortunately steals the magic from the girls and also, it closed the portal by accident. This made Sunset furious as she wanted the power back as well as telling her to stop using the power because it was putting her friend's lives in danger. When Principal Cinch, with the intention of foul play wanted to use Sci-Twi for victorious gain to finish of the Canterlot High, she was pressured to unleash the powerful forces in her device and soon she was turned into an evil entity, called Midnight Sparkle. Sunset was reminded of the time she was blinded by power and ambition, and so she showed her the magic of friendship and eventually defeating Midnight Sparkle.
The Legend of Everfree[]

During the start, Sci-Twi was afraid to turn back into Midnight Sparkle again and Sunset Shimmer could sense that Sci-Twi was in distress from a bad dream. Although Sci-Twi was feeling insecure about Midnight Sparkle returning, she told no one about her dream. When she arrived to the Camp Everfree, Sunset and Sci-Twi were assigned at the same tent. As all seven found out about their new abilities, Sci-Twi refused to address that she has magic to levitate items. Only Sunset Shimmer knew about her ability as it was manifested in their tent and agreed to keep it a secret from the others on her behalf. Sunset could tell that Sci-Twi still feels guilty about what she had done at the Friendship Games and asked their friends to not mention the subject around her.
Sunset even suspected Timber Spruce as the culprit of the boat crashing and warned Twilight to watch out for him. In the end Sunset successfully helped Twilight along with the other girls to stop Midnight Sparkles from coming back. When Gloriosa was overpowering the girls, Sunset encouraged Sci-Twi to embrace the magic that is inside of her. And all the other girls helped Sci-Twi to overcome her fears against Midnight Sparkle. Eventually they defeated the controlled Gloriosa Daisy possessed by Gaia.

When Sunset's friends lost the good memories of her with her friends, she turns to Twilight for help. Sunset Shimmer wrote in her journal to Princess Twilight Sparkle asking her if she was still her friend as all her friends remembered her as the bully she used to be. Twilight brought Sunset back to castle in Equestria to see her former teacher Princess Celestia. At first, Sunset was scared that Celestia would be unforgiving but instead, she embraced Sunset in their reunion instead. The Alicorn sisters Celestia and Luna then led Twilight and Sunset to the library's restricted section to find more information about the memory stone. Shortly after, Princess Twilight Sparkle had found information about the memory stone and how it was used to erase memories of others by an enchantress but there was a section missing. Sunset suspects Luna for being the one that erased the memories of her friends but this time Twilight did not follow her to the human world after Sunset tried to tell other Human 6 everything she knew about their friendship.

When some of Sunset's friends brought up how mean Sunset was back then, Sci-Twi stepped up and pointed out that Sunset has changed and earned the right to not be remembered as The Biggest Meanie. At the beach the next day, Sunset's friends suddenly became hostile towards her due to Wallflower Blush using the Memory Stone to erase their good memories of Sunset the night before. However, Sci-Twi was slightly less hostile to Sunset than the others and suggested if the group should worry for her. But when Sunset accidentally breaks Sci-Twi's camera drone, Sci-Twi grows more distrustful to her. After Sci-Twi fixes her camera drone and she and her friends are about to take their Best Friends picture in front of CHS, she notices Sunset at the window and feels sorry for her for a moment before proceeding to take the Best Friends picture without her. Later, when Wallflower threatens to erase all of Sunset's friends' memories of high school, Sunset intersected the beam of memory erase and saved her friends. Sci-Twi tells Sunset that she's her friend and glares at Wallflower. The Mane Seven pony up and launch a rainbow blast that shatters the Memory Stone and returns the stolen memories. Twilight apologizes for the way she and her friends acted to Sunset, but Sunset replied that she was just glad to have her friends back.
Rollercoaster of Friendship[]

Sunset and Sci-Twi paired up at the theme park and tried to attempt the ring throw from the Flim and Flam game. Both girls used math and physics as they tried to solve the equation regarding the ring throwing. Unbeknowst to them, Flim and Flam were cheating and collecting many tickets, making every attempt a fail. Vignette teleported both Sci-Twi and Sunset with Pinkie Pie at the same time after they confronted her about the disappearance of their friends. Except Rarity and Applejack who were still looking for each other to confront Vignette after they reconciled.

After Sunset finds another portal to Equestria, she takes Sci-Twi and the Rainbow Dash of the human world to see Princess Twilight, who as surprised to see them. Twilight tells Sunset and her friends stories of her recent adventures, and one of them involves her battle with the Storm King. As they talked it Twilight realized that she and her friends had accidentally sent some of the King's storm magic to the human and it is endangering Sunset's classmates at this very minute. To help the three save them, Twilight gives Sunset the staff and the anomaly of the Storm King Magic stopped. Sunset takes them to Twilight in hopes that she'll let them use the portal she has in the castle to send them all back to the safety of the school. Sunset gives a surprised Twilight an apologetic look before she asks for her help once again.
Sci-Twi[]

Sunset often comforts Sci-Twi when she is upset with the vacation. Sunset often reassures that all the other girls are having a great time and there is nothing to worry or stress about. Sunset truthfully confronts Rainbow Dash about how she was ruining the break with her speculations of evil Equestrian magic as well as her obsessive behavior. When Rainbow Dash set off alone to find the strange symbol, Sci-Twi and Sunset came together in pursuit of Rainbow Dash. Sunset then realized that Rainbow Dash was in trouble when a quick sand was inside the jungle but soon, another portal is appeared to the Pony World.
As the three entered the Pony World, the Human now pony Sci-Twi and Rainbow Dash was in deep shock and perplexity in their new pony form. There were times that the human world Rainbow Dash almost encountered her pony self and also cause confusion to passerby as they thought they were seeing doppelgängers. Sunset led them to Twilight Sparkle's castle and Sci-Twi met Princess Twilight Sparkle for the second time.

Even though this was mainly a focus on Sunset Shimmer and Pinkie Pie's obsession with the band Post Crush, Sci-Twi did hang around the two during some time loops volunteering to figure out Sunset's dilemma. Sci-Twi is perceptive and joins Sunset at the Star Swirl Festival on the 'second' day or the time loop. Sunset stepped on the mud but this time Sci-Twi was there to witness it closely. The three was splashed with paint and Sunset told Sci-Twi that Pinkie Pie painted Rarity with a pirate moustache on the back of the cubicle door. With the three weeks of one day, Sunset was able to remember the conversations she has with Sci-Twi word for word, when their RV broke down with a flat tyre in the middle of the night.

- Due to the events that transpired after Sunset and her friends got their new powers, her mind beings to be filled with questions and uses the magical message journal to ask Twilight how she is able to drop everything whenever trouble appears.
- Before Twilight left on another friendship mission, she noticed that the journal on Sunset's end is full and asks Starlight Glimmer to give Sunset a new one.
- Just before Starlight Glimmer is about to head back to her home world, Sunset gets a message from Twilight that has her calling Sunset and her friends good teachers. Along with allowing Sunset to spend more time with Starlight and hopes that they'll enjoy the premier.
Fanon[]
This shipping started mostly after Sunset's redemption. But because Princess Twilight started to stop appearing in the EG universe, fans quickly moved over to SciTwiShimmer, as Sunset becomes friends with Twilight's human counterpart while staying in contact with Princess Twilight through a magical message journal. Because some SciTwiShimmer fans call the said ship "SunsetSparkle" as well, it sometimes causes fans to confuse the two ships for one another, along with the fact that Sunset is close with both pony and human Twilight.
This shipping is measured by how much Sci-Twi and Sunset bonded in the Equestria Girls series and is sometimes seen as the Equestria Girls version of SunsetSparkle, even though some confuse the two for being the same ship or have two ships rival one another. It is commonly shipped along side RariJack and FlutterDash in the EG universe. The discovery of Sci-Twi had even got a small group of fans to wonder if there is a second version of Sunset as well, however, Hasbro has confirmed that there is no second version of Sunset since they wanted her to be her own thing.
On AO3, the ship has over 200 fanfics, while FanFiction.net has 49 out of 503 in its My Little Pony (cartoon) category.
