Season 2[]
Brainy and Clark are fighting off an army of aliens, when one is about to shoot Clark in the back. Brainy sees this and quickly dives in front of Clark, taking the hit for him. Clark calls out to him, but Brainy tells him to finish the job as he falls to the planets surface. Clark takes out the rest of the army, then flies down to Brainy's side. Brainy is injured, but Clark insists that he'll be find, taking his hand. He calls Brainy a true hero, and Brainy says that he learned it all from Clark. Clark starts to cry, and Brainy seemingly dies, Clark cradling his lifeless body. A voice then comes over, and the entire previous events were revealed to be a simulation. He then sneaks out of the chamber, only to be caught off guard by Lightning Lad asking if he and Clark saved the day, and Timberwolf asking if they just saw a movie this time. Brainy tries to play it that he's just using the chamber to try and determine the best way to deal with the threat, including the possiblity of Clark's return. Lightning Lad tells him that he needs to get used to life without Clark, when a portal opens up in front of them. They see a silouette similar to Clark's and Brainy assumes he's returned, only for it not to be him.

SuperBrain is a rarpair in the overall DC fandom, though it does have many fans within the Legion of Super-Heroes fandom. With many coming from the 2005 cartoon. As it was easy for many people to read Brainy as having a crush on Clark. One that feels very obvious to the fans and some of the other Legionnaire's. Brainy also creating an entire program that ends with Clark cradling him in his arms also lent evidence to this theory. With many seeing the series as a lot more queer than it did when they were watching it as kids. On AO3, SuperBrain is the third most written ship for Brainy. There are currently 85+ written works.
