Surani is the family ship between Surak and Rani from The Lion King fandom.
Canon[]
Surak and Rani were both introduced in The Lion Guard season three episode "The Tree of Life" as members of the Night Pride. Upon arriving in hearing range of the Lion Guard after the foreign animals arrive on the borders of their territory, Rani turns to her uncle for counsel. Surak backs up her opinion that they are strangers, and notes that their apparent cause of a rockslide means that they are likely a mighty force. He later follows Rani into action after Baliyo, Rani's brother and Surak's nephew, charges into action against the newcomers.
Shortly thereafter, Surak and Rani are stunned when Baliyo is sent flying by the power of Kion's Roar of the Elders, which Surak notes he has heard stories of in the past. He questions how Rani wishes to proceed, but Rani is too angry about the attack on her brother to respond. After the confrontation breaks up, Rani asks Surak to watch over Baliyo while she reports to Queen Janna. Rani subsequently returns with the reluctant report that Janna wishes them to welcome the Lion Guard, confirming for Surak his suspicions that the Roar was the one he had heard of as a cub. When Rani asks for a moment to herself, Surak agrees, perhaps aware that Rani is going to speak to the spirits of her deceased parents.
In "The River of Patience", Rani is partly convinced to give the new guests a tour of the Tree of Life when Janna points out that Surak can attend to the Night Pride's patrol duties. Rani later vents to her uncle and other teammates about her desire for the Lion Guard to leave as soon as possible, only for Surak to redirect her attention to a group of would-be invaders. During another battle with these attackers, Rani tasks Surak with following the Komodo dragon Ora, and he accepts the assignment willingly.
In "Long Live the Queen", during another battle with the invaders, Rani calls on Surak and Baliyo to follow her in a pursuit movement. Sometime later, as Queen Janna is about to pass away, she asks Surak-her son-to share his wisdom with Rani as she becomes queen but also urges him to let Rani make her own decisions. Surak assents, and he later takes part in Rani's coronation as Queen of the Tree of Life. In "The Lake of Reflection", during another battle with the enemy, Rani orders Surak and Baliyo to confront Ora, but they end up being crashed into by Kion's teammate Beshte. Later, Surak approaches Rani after she discusses Kion's ongoing healing with Fuli of the Lion Guard, with Rani confessing her fear that Kion isn't improving.
In "Triumph of the Roar", upon being informed of the last and largest enemy attack by Ullu the owl, Surak instructs her to inform the Lion Guard while he and the rest of the Night Pride collect Rani from her royal chambers. Arriving there, Surak calls out the news of the attack, only for them to find that Rani is absent. In "Return to the Pride Lands", Surak is among the attendees at Rani's wedding to Kion and Kion's coronation as King of the Tree of Life.

This section is in need of major improvement. Please help improve this article by editing it.
Surani is not a relationship that has received a great deal of attention from The Lion King fandom. The Lion Guard is not a universally popular addition to the franchise. Fan works also have the tendency to focus on interactions between characters of the same generation or their respective parents. Surak's behavior towards Rani is in striking contrast to that exhibited by the franchise's most prominent uncle, Scar, as despite being older than Rani he gives no indication of resenting her ascension to the throne of the Tree of Life.
There are currently no works tagged for the pairing on AO3.
