Surgaze is the femslash ship between Surge and Blaze from the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom.

Background[]
Blaze and Surge have not interacted much, but there are many comparisons to be made between their characters. Surge is very different from Blaze, though the main commonality they share is being two of Sonic's past rivals, something which is even acknowledged in Surge and Blaze's first meeting. Both are distinguishable from Sonic's other rivals due to both being a variation on Sonic; Blaze is Sonic's equivalent in the Sol Dimension, and Surge had Sonic's bio-data incorporated into her. Another one of Surge and Blaze's distinguishing factors are their elemental abilities. Blaze naturally possesses pyrokinesis, while Surge has access to electrokinesis due to Dr. Starline’s modifications.
Blaze and Surge also have comparable personalities. Both are very confident and independent. Though Blaze's independence comes from her sense of responsibility, while Surge is naturally free-spirited and unwilling to listen to others. Other than that, their personalities are quite different, especially since Blaze has learned to rely on her friends more. While Blaze is graceful and level-headed, Surge is impulsive and self-centered.
History[]
The two first meet in Issue 67, when Surge joins the Restoration as a spy for Clutch the Opossum. Sonic introduces Surge as "someone who tried to destroy me a couple of times," leading Blaze to comment that he needs to stop making friends like that. Surge is surprised that this was a commonality of his and asks if she is an "honorary Restoration mook" for being the same. Blaze replies that she and Silver aren't members of the Restoration, but they help out.
Fanon[]
Surgaze is a rarepair, though many fans have shown interest in their dynamic, whether romantic or not. Non-romantically, one of the most popular portrayals of the pairing are the two in the fight (a notable example is a comic series by TheNovika). It is generally agreed that Blaze would win against Surge. These battle scenarios come from a desire to explore Surge’s potential dynamic with Sonic’s other rivals. Some feel that a rivalry between Surge and Blaze would be more interesting than the canonical rivalry between Surge and Sonic.
Romantically, Surgaze’s main appeal is the Rivals/Enemies-to-Lovers dynamic, as well as Opposites Attract with a princess and punk type character. Surgamy is the more popular femslash ship for Surge, but most Surgaze fans tend to enjoy Surgamy as well.
