Kim and Cris do not interact during the events of the game. It is not clear if they know of each other. It is entirely possible that they do, given that they both live in a small town. They may also go to the same school. They are also within the same age range.

The ship is a rarepair. This is largely due to how Cris is a rather minor character. This is also largely due to how both characters do not interact with each other at all. On Kim's end, it is largely overshadowed by Kimbrey and, to a lesser extent, Honeysuckle.
The ship currently has 6+ works on AO3. It is the seventh most written Kim ship on AO3. It is the second most written femslash Kim ship on AO3. It is the seventh most written ship for Cris on AO3. It is also the fourth most written femslash Cris ship on AO3.
The ship name Swedish Fish most likely comes from Cris's love for the ocean and Kim's love for candy. Swedish Fish is a fish-shaped candy. The same applies to the alternate ship name Saltwater Taffy. Those who ship this ship may do so as they look cute together. There is little to no fanart of this ship. The ship is, in general, little-known.
