- You're right. The detective agency has its morals. But to me...Naomi is...an entirely different matter. Good and evil or selfishness...No. There's no comparison to begin with. Just as...Nobody would compare God with anything, right? [...] For Naomi's sake, I’d gladly burn down the whole world.
- —Junichirou, snapping, talks about Naomi to John Steinbeck.
Tanizaki Siblings is the family ship between Junichirou Tanizaki and Naomi Tanizaki from the Bungou Stray Dogs fandom.
Canon[]
Junichiro and Naomi claim to be siblings. It is implied that Junichiro and Naomi are not blood-related, as Junichiro mentions information regarding Naomi’s “real family” before being killed by the Ame-no-Gozen. It is likely that they are adoptive siblings. Not much is known about their past, but it's shown that Junichiro lives alone with Naomi, and nothing has been revealed about their parents, although it's most likely that they are deceased as they don't live with their children. As it was guessed by Atsushi at Café Uzumaki, Naomi and Junichiro were students before joining the Agency. Junichiro is weirded out by Naomi’s usual clingy, touchy, and sexual advances around him and constantly tells her to hold off on it, but to no avail. However, Junichiro deeply cares about her as her older brother and stops at nothing to ensure her safety and happiness. The thought of Naomi being harmed triggers Junichiro's murderous intent.
The Agency, on numerous occasions, states they ignore Naomi and Junichiro’s relationship as a whole and often refer to it as questionable or odd. Kenji is one of the few of the agency who isn’t bothered by the siblings, while Atsushi tries his best to avoid them while Kunikida gets worried whenever they get close.
Light Novels[]
In the Untold Origins novel Chapter One, the agency realizes that Dazai rigged the lots deciding who plays the terrorist and victim in Atsushi’s entrance exam; Dazai purposefully made the results choose Junichiro as the person who’d play the terrorist. The agency is confused by why Dazai would do such a thing, and as a result, Naomi enters the scene and tearfully confesses she asked Dazai to rig the results so she could play the hostage and get tied up by Junichiro.
In 55 Minutes, while the agency is out on a cruise, Junichiro resides seasick and begs Naomi to bring him a glass of water, and she offers to give it mouth-to-mouth, making Junichiro decline. Later, at the hotel, the paperwork ends up getting rigged for Tanizaki and Naomi to share rooms, and Kunikida begins to panic and rushes off to prevent this situation.

Junichiro and Naomi make their first appearance in Episode 2/Chapter 2 when Atsushi takes the exam to join the Agency. Junichiro played the role of the terrorist while Naomi was a victim, but Atsushi didn't know it before the exam ends. Junichiro grabs Naomi and threatens to hurt her multiple times as his role, and after Atsushi solves the exam, Naomi jumps on Junichiro tightly and asks if he's okay, and Naomi asks him to continue where they left off and how exciting the incident was, which Junichiro replies that he's hurting because her grip.
Later at the Café Uzumaki, Junichiro apologizes to Atsushi, saying that even if it was for Atsushi's exam, he was still rude to him. After that, he introduces himself and his sister Naomi. Atsushi asks if they are really siblings explaining that they don't look similar to each other. Naomi smirks and starts stroking Junichiro's cheek and rub his belly saying that she can proof it if he doesn't believe it and that they’re more blood-related than he thinks. Atsushi starts blushing with embarrassment and doesn't know what to say but as Naomi and Junichiro do further questionable things in the background, Kunikida counsels Atsushi to not ask them about this and he agrees.

Junichiro gets a call about a new mission and he with others arrives to the place where their client is. Hearing the request, Kunikida assigned Atsushi and Junichiro to the job and Naomi decided to join to, so she can be with her brother. As they are being escorted to the crime scene, Naomi teases Junichiro in various ways making him embarrassed. Junichiro tells her to stop as they are in public, but it didn't work. As the client led them to a dead-end alley, they revealed it was a trap and their client turned out to be Higuchi Ichiyo, a member of the Port Mafia, who started shooting them. Naomi stood in front of Junichiro and protected him with her body. She loses consciousness and falls on him, dying. Junichiro is panicked and begins to think of different ways to save her, but Higuchi threatens him with a weapon. Junichiro shows a change in his attitude and is consumed by anger and reveals his ability Light Snow. Higuchi dodges his attacks, and he appears behind her, wrapping his hands around her throat and beginning to strangle her madly. He’s stopped by Akutagawa who attacks him from behind. Later, they were treated by Akiko Yosano after being brought back to the Agency.
Throughout the rest of the series, Junichiro displays his unwavering care for Naomi where he immediately switches up whenever an enemy threatens to harm Naomi, which is a reoccurring overall theme in his character.
The Guild Arc[]

When Junichiro and Kunikida are restrained by Lovecraft, Naomi and Haruno are also apprehended. Steinbeck taunts Junichiro about Naomi, which immediately angers him. When Steinbeck brings up morals, Junichiro activates his ability, Light Snow, so that an incoming truck can't see the scene. Tanizaki talks about how Naomi is incomparable to anything, like how you wouldn't compare God. He claims he'll burn the world/reduce it to ashes for Naomi's sake as the truck hits, freeing the agency members.

BSD Wan![]
In Chapter 24, while having his meal, Junichiro spills some hayashi rice on his shirt, making him anxiously think that Naomi will wipe it off for him and will give him too much of her love as she always does. To his surprise, Naomi calls out his spillage and asks him to wipe it off with some dish cloth himself, leaving Junichiro in confused state.

Junichiro worries If Naomi doesn’t love him anymore.
At the office, worrying, Junichiro informs Atsushi and Kunikida his situation. Atsushi tells him that she may be the time for her to separate from him, but Tanizaki berates and dismisses his idea, saying with a serious face that it's impossible. He cites Naomi's recent strange habits and worries that she now probably hates him. Her absence in the office further fuels his suspicions and thinks that she can be attacked by an enemy ability. Yelling, he declares that he will search for her. Worrying, Atsushi asks Junichiro If he knows where she can be. Junichiro tells him there's no need to worry about that because he can find Naomi by smelling her scent. He runs away, leaving Atsushi and Kunikida in shock.
As he arrives at a building and opens the door of the room where she is, he sees Naomi who is taking off her clothes and along with her the other female employees, only to discover they are undergoing physical examinations, leading him to be called a pervert by Naomi.
Back at the Agency, Atsushi deduces that Naomi was watching her weight before the physical exam, which explains why she was not touching her meals and kept refusing desserts. With the police almost taking him in, Junichiro is relieved about the truth of the matter and his relationship with Naomi returns to normal, with Kunikida and Atsushi wrapping up the mystery that has now been solved.

Fanon[]
Junichiro and Naomi's relationship is controversial within the fandom and people have different opinions on it.
Tanizaki Siblings (JunNao/JuniNao/NaoJuni) as a romantic ship is still popular (more within the Eastern fandom), either as an incest ship or with the idea that they aren't related by blood and are lovers pretending to be siblings. However, the majority of the fanbase (typically in the Western fandom) criticizes the pairing because of Naomi's incestuous behavior towards Junichiro, making the pairing very unpopular. Fans would prefer to ship Naomi with Haruno or Tanizaki with Atsushi or Tachihara.
Some fans ignore this aspect of their relationship and instead appreciate Junichiro’s care and protectiveness over Naomi, and their relationship played a lot of attention which became a reason of some theories about them. However, Naomi is disliked in the fandom for her sexual and manipulative behavior towards Junichiro. Fans point out Naomi forces herself onto Junichiro and is sexually assaulting him, which is a major reason why the fandom dislikes her character. On the other hand, Junichiro is criticized for enabling Naomi's behavior (since she is allegedly his youngest sister, viewers claim he has the responsibility to stop Naomi's behavior) and see him just as guilty as her since he is consenting to it off-screen.
However, since Naomi is overtly touchy and sexual without Junichiro's consent, fans point out that she seems to be manipulating (and possibly abusing) him. This is due to Junichiro seeming uncomfortable around Naomi and struggling to say no to her in public on top of her manipulative words to coerce him into listening to her. Especially since Naomi has been shown to be calculative, smart, and manipulative in her scenes without Junichiro, it means she could be aware of what she's doing. Junichiro's devotion and intent to kill whenever Naomi may be in harm's way also reinforces the idea of an obsessive or unhealthy relationship that they built up, though some see it as simply Junichiro being overprotective and truly caring about Naomi. This is another reason why the ship is unpopular, regardless of whether they're blood related or not, both as a platonic and romantic ship.
Overall, their relationship as a whole is highly controversial. Some see their controversial moments as mere incest fan service and ignore it, others see it as an abusive and unhealthy codependent relationship, some think they aren't actually family and that they are engaging in an incest kink. Fans find their relationship generally disgusting, considering they have been implied to have been in sexual relations. People joke about how they pretend like the Tanizaki siblings don’t exist or that they blocked Naomi’s existence out of their memory.
Theories[]
For a long time, fans have theorized that Junichiro and Naomi aren't related.
A popular theory is about that Naomi isn't a real person and she's just an illusion made by Junichiro. However, this theory was debunked as Naomi also can get injured and was once touched by Dazai. Also, as most of the abilities, Junichiro's power also has a range of area. His ability allows him to project illusions around him, covering the affected area with snowfall and as we remember in The Guild Arc, Naomi was in Haruno's house while Junichiro was at The Agency with other members so she can't be an illusion.
In other theory, which is the most believed, fans look to the real-life Junichiro’s book the siblings were based on, where the protagonists were lovers pretending to be siblings because of societal norms and therefore theorize that Junichiro and Naomi aren't real siblings, but they pretend to be. Some people believe that Junichiro had a sister before, and she died. Fans have also noticed the excessive and comedic detail on Naomi emphasizing that they’re “completely” and “totally” blood-related, and the majority of the fan base hoped that it was hinting how they’re unrelated.
After it was revealed that Naomi has a "real family", fans began to theorize and believe that Naomi may be related to the Akutagawa Siblings due to their resemblance and Naomi being drawn next to Gin once. When the chapter released, there was a fandom-wide relief knowing that the Tanizaki siblings are at least not blood-related.
