- Little Yoko... I didn't want to say goodbye like this!
- — Don Tanukiman witnessing Yoko's sacrifice
Tanukinari is the het ship between Don Tanukiman and Little Yoko, Inari Girl from The Helpful Fox Senko-san fandom.
Canon[]
Little Yoko, Inari Girl, and Don Tanukiman are enemies in "Little Yoko, Inari Girl," a fictional anime featured in The Helpful Fox Senko-san. The anime's plot remains unknown, since it was only partially shown in three episodes. We were first introduced to the anime when Yasuko Kōenji thought that Senko was cosplaying Little Yoko, Inari Girl due to their similar features.
Anime[]
Episode Three
In one scene, Yoko is depicted flying on a broomstick through the night sky before striking a pose, accompanied by the show's logo. The focus then shifts to Don Tanukiman, who is capturing photos with a camera. Yoko notices him and delivers a kick to his face, causing him to tumble to the ground. Yoko then executes her signature pose after leaping into the sky, while Tanukiman, lying prone, appears to explode, Yoko makes her trademark “Whee, whee, whee!” sound effect. Coins, possibly part of the explosion or carried by Tanukiman, scatter around the scene.
Later in the episode, after Kōenji had left their apartment, Senko and Nakano sat down to watch an episode of “Little Yoko, Inari Girl.” The episode begins with Yoko-chan dancing and skipping around, twirling in circles amidst a forest, surrounded by towering trees while chanting “Whee-whee, whee-whee, whee, whee! ♪” Suddenly, Don Tanukiman firmly plants his foot down, and the scene shifts to focus on him as he holds a camera, whispering, “This is the end for you,” as he snaps a couple of photos. Yoko notices the flash and recognizes Don Tanukiman taking photos of her. She starts pleading with him to stop, saying, “Whee, stop!” as she gradually fades into a few leaves that gently fall to the ground. Don Tanukiman laughs triumphantly, declaring, “You're finished!” Before anything further unfolds, the words “To be continued” appear on the screen. Senko, eager to know what happens next, asks, “What will happen to Yoko?” Kuroto responds by informing Senko that they have to wait a week for the next episode to air.
Despite Kuroto's words, the episode directly after was never aired in the anime.
Episode Four
During the episode, Nakano had left Senko home alone to take care of the house like usual. Except this time, she would use electric appliances like the air conditioning, fan, and vacuum. While alone, Senko attempts to adjust the air conditioning with the TV remote. Surprised, she finds the television playing an episode of “Little Yoko, Inari Girl” without specifying the episode number.
In the episode, it displayed Don Tanukiman laughing, the focus then swifted to Yoko running from someone until she reaches a dead-end. The person who was chasing her, Don Tanukiman, eventually catches up to her, proclaming, “Oh, now you're finished!” Yoko turned around once she heard Don Tanukiman's voice coming from behind her. Yoko, shocked, responds “You again?!” To which, Don Tanukiman declares, “I've got you this time, Inari Girl!” “Take this!” Don Tanukiman added to his original statement as he tapped his stomach, unleashing an explosion toward Yoko, accompanied by his laughter playing in the background of Yoko's screams.
Though the episode might've continued, it didn't show on-screen since the focus swifted to show Senko trying to turn off the television in panic.
Episode Twelve
In the final episode, Kuroto Nakano found himself alone at home after Senko's departure. He reached for the remote and selected the last episode of "Little Yoko, Inari Girl." As the episode started, the familiar intro unfolded, featuring Yoko flying on a broomstick before striking a pose as the anime's logo illuminated the screen.
In this episode, Don Tanukiman sneaks up behind Yoko and draws his weapon, a pair of guns, firing multiple bullets at her. Yoko attempts to evade the bullets using her broomstick, she flies through the city, but an explosion ensues. Tanukiman laughs maniacally, believing that Yoko was finally gone, he stops laughing once he notices an object in the sky slowly heading towards them. Despite Don Tanukiman's laughter, Yoko survives and momentarily transforms into a leaf, resembling her weapon. While in leaf form, she tells Don Tanukiman that the object in the sky is a comet hurtling towards Earth and urgently warns him that its impact could spell destruction for the world. The scene shifts swiftly to Kuroto appearing bored, then to Yoko (no longer a leaf) surrounded by sparkles, exclaiming "Whee, whee, whee!" as she powers up. Mounting her broomstick, Yoko recklessly flies towards the comet. Meanwhile, Don Tanukiman shouts "Wait!" in concern for her safety, realizing that Yoko is risking her life in the process. The scene shifts to show Yoko surrounded by her weapons, the leaves, soaring out of Earth. As soon as she notices the comet, Yoko commands "Go!" and all the leaves attach to it. The comet ignites, and Yoko rushes to press herself against it, struggling to push it away. The focus then switches to the worried townspeople, (with Don Tanukiman likely among them,) watching anxiously as Yoko endeavors to avert the burning comet from Earth.
A spark emerges where Yoko once stood, followed by a rainbow effect emanating from the fading comet. The townspeople erupt into cheers, grateful that Yoko has saved them. However, a small minority, including Don Tanukiman, express sadness over her sacrifice. Following Yoko's demise, Don Tanukiman remained fixated on the sky, tears streaming down his face as he said, "I didn't want to say goodbye like this!" Despite being shown as enemies throughout the series, Don Tanukiman was deeply saddened by Yoko's passing.

Fanon[]
The pairing goes unrecognized within the fandom, as fans tend to prioritize the canon relationship between the main characters Kuroto Nakano and Senko, that ship being NakaSen, or opt for fanon ships such as NakaYasu (Kuroto and Yasuko Kōenji), NakaYotsu (Kuroto and Yotsuya), or NakaFuku (Kuroto and Fukuda), which enjoy greater popularity. Because of this, the ship has little to no fan works of them. Tanukinari is the most popular ship for Yoko and Don Tanukiman, since the two are commonly not shipped with any other character.
Some fans speculate that Don Tanukiman might have harbored feelings for Yoko, which could be apart of the reason for his habit of constantly taking photos of her with his camera, and his deep sorrow over her passing. Others theorize that his camera may possess powers that adversely affected Yoko, which could explain her discomfort with him taking photos, this is emphasized in the third episode, when he snaps a couple photos of her and she begins to transform into a few leaves. Enthusiasts of this pairing imagine that if Yoko had survived, she and Don Tanukiman could have developed a friendship, considering his genuine sadness over her risky sacrifice, and perhaps even a romantic relationship in the future.
