Tenpen is the slash ship between Tennis Ball and Pen from the Battle for Dream Island fandom.
Canon[]
Battle for Dream Island[]
When Pen tells the other competitors at the bottom of the bridge that golf balls sink in water, Tennis Ball adds on that rocks do as well.
Tennis Ball tells Pen to face the fact that they aren't getting Dream Island back after it got stolen.
The Power of Two[]
Tennis Ball congratulates Pen for getting Black Hole to stop sucking up their team's stack of blocks. Later in the challenge when Tennis Ball is obliterated by a laser, Pen runs over in concern to where he was. Pen ends up getting zapped himself.
Pen was about to insult the Davids until Tennis Ball coveres his mouth to prevent them from hearing it.
When Pen bumps his breathable bubble into Golf Ball's, Tennis Ball immediately rushes to her defense and tells Pen not to hit Golf Ball. Tennis Ball bumps into his bubble in return and ends up causing the two and Golf Ball's bubbles to bounce into each other repeatedly, leaving them stuck. Even though the three of them are bouncing into each other at an equal level, Tennis Ball specifically calls out Pen to stop. Pen gets mad and says to him that he hasn't been in control for at least 80 bounces. Pen is later freed when a fish monster eats Tennis Ball and Golf Ball's bubbles.
When Eraser tries to get Golf Ball and Puffball to come back to their team after kicking them out for a challenge, Pen tells him that they have their other "bro" Tennis Ball. He then asks Tennis Ball what they should do for the challenge who says that it's imperative they glue the volcano shut. The two and Eraser get on TV as he uses his wheels to take them to Robot Flower's shop
Tennis Ball's original plan for the balance beam challenge was to sabotage other teams with Golf Ball but is saddened when she leaves with Puffball to do it instead. Pen comforts him, telling Tennis Ball that they can hang with them instead. Tennis Ball smiles from hearing this and is motivated to continue planning out their strategy for the challenge. However, the two along with Eraser are caught off guard when TV is suddenly knocked off by Robot Flower. When Team8s start to attack Eraser after he accuses them of hiding Teardrop, Tennis Ball apologizes in advance to Pen and uses him to knock Coiny off the beam. Pen compliments him and calls the defense sick as Tennis Ball tells him he learned from Golf Ball that it's handy to treat friends like tools. Pen blankly looks at him hearing this comment. When Barf Bag swears to them that they don't know where Teardrop is, Tennis Ball believes her and tells Pen and Eraser that it may be dangerous to target Teardrop because of her power. Pen agrees with Tennis Ball and points out how it would be three against one. Tennis Ball responds that it sounds good in theory but suggests finding some way to weaken Teardrop as he anticipates they'll be hindered trying to take her down. Later in the challenge when the two fight Snowball, Tennis Ball tells Pen he has a plan albeit a risky one. Pen trusts him with it as Tennis Ball explains that if they fall off while they're still in Snowball's grasp, his Yoyle weight will throw him off the beam as well. Pen is willing to go with it and the two pull Snowball down which ends up knocking all three of them off the balance beam. Tennis Ball and Pen encourage Eraser, their last team member remaining, on taking down a sickened Teardrop.
Fanon[]
Tenpen was originally a rare pairing in the Battle for Dream Island fandom. Few fan arts and shippers existed between them until a moment in the eighth episode of season five, "Balancing P.A.C.T.", fueled a greater bond between the two. Following the episode, interest grew in the ship as more art and appreciation surrounds the duo. The ship rivals Tengolf (Tennis Ball x Golf Ball) and Penraser (Pen x Eraser), the two's more popular ships in the fandom. Some, however, include Eraser in the ship as well to create the poly ship of Tenpenraser.
On AO3, there are 5 works under their romantic tag and 3 under their platonic tag. It is the second most written ship for Tennis Ball and the fifth most for Pen.
