- The girls look at you because you are really handsome, Kageyama-kun!
- —Teruki to Mob, Divine Tree Arc.
Terumob is the slash ship between Teruki Hanazawa and Shigeo Kageyama from the Mob Psycho 100 fandom.
Canon[]
Before meeting Mob, Teru didn't know any other espers, so he greatly overestimated his own importance and power. This is likely due to Claw only sending artificial espers to try and "recruit" him. He was very popular and often strategically used telekinesis to benefit himself. For example, he threw nothing but strikes the first time he went bowling. He considered himself the main protagonist of the world.

Since his defeat, Teru comes to realize that the world does not revolve around him, but he is still confident in his strong and diverse psychic powers. He seems to adhere to Mob's policy of not using psychic power against people unless absolutely necessary. He is motivated to stop others from succumbing to pride like he once did, but he is still concerned about his outward appearance and still seeks perfection in all his endeavors. He has been known to hold people upside-down and dunk them in a bucket of water until they tell him what he wants to hear. While he is noted to be a good leader, he is shown to has trouble remaining humble, and often still has a confident tone in his voice which still lingers even after his defeat by Mob's hands.
During the World Domination Arc, It is revealed that Teru is very fond of Mob and constantly praises him whenever Mob is the subject of the conversation. Teru was mostly worried about Mob throughout this arc. Teru was losing against a member of the Main 5 and before the enemy could get the final blow onto him Mob and Reigen came recuse him and Teru was happy that Mob finally woke up from his long sleep. Also when Mob was fighting against Toichiro in the final fight Teru was one of the first people that showed up in his memories of the people he loves and cares about alongside Reigen, Ritsu and Dimple.
After final fight was over Mob said that it was hard for him to stay awake, so Teru used his powers to carry him home and allow him to sleep.
After all, Teruki became a good friend of Mob, and helped him in all he could.
In the second OVA, Mob, along with Ritsu, Reigen, Dimple, and Serizawa meet Teruki at the station where they'd take some vacation time at Ibogami Hot Springs. As the boys and Serizawa watched a TV commercial about a drink consisting of a boy glancing at another girl while the former was noticeably flushed, Teru questions if Mob has a crush on anyone in his class or club, Mob flushes as he babbled unsuccessfully getting an answer out of his mouth. Teruki laughs softly as he reassures him that there was no need to be embarrassed.
In the Divine Tree arc, Teruki coincidentally meets Shigeo while the latter was thinking of someone to help him get clothes for his meeting with Tome and Mezato. Hanazawa offers Mob help to buy him clothes and, unaware of Teruki's unique fashion sense, Mob happily agrees to go with him as he needed some help because he wasn't good at it. While walking to their destination, they both notice something strange happening in their surroundings; many people (mainly girls) looking at both boys, presumably at Mob. Shigeo excitedly comments how a lot of girls were looking in his direction lately, however he claims that he didn't want to get the wrong idea. Teru comforts him and explains that it wasn't his imaginations, and that the reason for that was because he was really cool ("handsome" in the manga) to the point that he made others look in his direction. Mob was allegedly surprised and couldn't believe what he said, but Teruki turned the topic down to buy clothes. In the end, in order not to go over Mob's budget of 5,000 ¥ that Reigen had given him, they ended up buying a yellow shirt with monkey prints around it.

The shirt in question.
The next day, Ritsu was eerily surprised by his clothes, mainly Shigeo's shirt, as the latter tells him that Hanazawa had helped him pick out clothes. Ritsu understands, however he was disturbed by the clothings choice. As Mob waited for Tome, the people passing near him gave Shigeo mocking looks and comments, and that's when he's uncertain if the shirt was really cool.
Later that day, Teruki was almost brainwashed after consuming chocolates with the Divine Tree's powder on it, and decides to chase Psycho Helmet. After arriving inside the tree, he sees Psycho Helmet's figure, briefly mistaking him for Mob, as their appearance was almost equal. During their fight, Teruki notices that Dimple was behind everything. He was confident on defeating Dimple again and telling Kageyama later about his success, but the fight was later cut out with the last scene being Psycho Helmet grinning as Teruki approached him about to hit them.
Upon arriving at the Divine Tree, Mob is greeted by Psycho Helmet, who attempts to persuade him to join the Psycho Helmet Cult, since the entire city except him was part of it. Kageyama comes across Hanazawa, and looks in horror as Teruki was unconscious while surrounded by the roots of the divine tree, with Psycho Helmet assuring that he wasn't dead. Mob also knew about Psycho Helmet's real identity; Dimple, who was behind everything. With his psychic power, Mob frees Teruki out of the roots and carefully puts him on the ground. Just when Mob was about to fight Dimple, Teru places a hand on his shoulder to stop him and tells him to think carefully since not everyone is at a disadvantage because of Psycho Helmet. He then explained that Dimple's actions were not as evil as Mob thought, yet the latter still intended to punish him like a vigilante. Insisting they composed themselves, Teru coaxed that Dimple was simply trying to persuade Mob, and he had the freedom to decline or not. However, since Mob was willing to use brute force, Teru resorts to sneaky coercion by ending their relationship, with both Dimple and him.

Brainwashed Teruki's coercion to Mob.
If he dissolved the cult with force, Teru would respond likewise in return. Hypothetically, if Mob defeated Teru, the others would be too angry to let it pass. He reasons that everyone would be willing to oppose Mob if it meant protecting something precious to them. This evoked more anger from Mob, prompting Dimple to appear behind Teruki, explaining that this was the latter's true feelings and his concern for Mob. Dimple then reminded Mob that everyone's daily lives would remain the same even if Mob backed down. Mob answered to his claim by blasting Dimple's face off, telling him he was tired of talking to a broccoli puppet. He ordered to see Dimple, face-to-face, causing Teru to cry out, demanding what he had done immediately. Now that Mob finally attacked, Teru would not let him talk to Dimple directly anymore and attacked Mob with a lariat, declaring he was now his opponent.[1] There was a clear disadvantage on Mob's part, since the tree absorbed his psychic power, leaving him almost without strength, in addition on not wanting to hurt Teruki while trying to wake him from the control imposed by Dimple.

"I knew it, you really are amazing!"
Falling under the divine tree's binds, Mob, forced to defend himself, throws Teruki out of the divine tree with a beam of power. This causes Teruki go into shock briefly and then smiles before flying through the air, and he can't help but comment through his brainwashing that Mob is "so amazing" as he laughed and fell from the sky. It's implied that, due not only Shigeo's blast of power at him, but also his strong admiration to Mob, the brainwashing was dissipated.
After getting Dimple to appear in his true form, Mob is suddenly attacked with great power by Dimple, with the latter realizing that he had released too much power and worrying about Mob as he asked if he was alright. He then notices Shigeo now wearing, instead of his uniform, a particular shirt, and, horrified, points how the [monkey] shirt was lame (the one bought by Teruki for Shigeo). This makes Mob remain dumbfounded as he reaches his emotions' limit of 100%.
Next part is seen in Mob's perspective during the purchase of the shirt with Teruki, as the latter flatters him for the shirt he was wearing. However, his opinion is not shared by Ritsu and Reigen in later flashback scenes, who are noticeably disturbed by the garment in question. Shigeo also thanks Dimple for being honest to him and decides not to use his powers against Dimple in the Divine Tree and to trust him instead. The emotion displayed at 100% was Trust.[2]
Teru runs into Mob on the streets days later, with the latter sharing his troubles on Tsubomi moving. Teru tells him to be confident and gives him the advice to bring her a present. At first Shigeo doesn't agree with some of the advices given by his friend, since, according to him, they were different, but Teruki denies it, reminding him that it was Mob himself who had mentioned that the two were alike before and adds he had to relax since he needs to be more confident.

"Relax your shoulders! You need to be more confident!"
Teruki suggests him to buy a bouquet of flowers, and Mob considers it. In the middle of that, Teruki proposes to help him out with the clothes for the occasion, but Mob rejects the offer, saying that he had no money to buy clothes. In the end Shigeo takes Teruki's advice and manages to buy a small bouquet of flowers, which it's replaced with a bigger one given by Toshiki Minegishi as returning a favor Mob had done him back then in Claw (saved him from Mogami during World Domination Arc). As he smiles for himself, Mob internally thanks everyone for helping him out. Later, Teru confronts Mob during his unconscious rampage in the forest, mentioning having a hunch that he'd be there, so he flew over at speed of light. He tries reasoning with his rival, unaware he isn't fully in control (since Mob was knocked out after being hit by a car on his way to meet Tsubomi before, ???% now taking Mob's body under its hand). He also mentions out loud his happiness towards him having bought flowers but also saying how it would be dangerous on his state, before being assaulted by ???'s power, now managing to throw him to a larger distance. After being blown away, Teru attempts to bind Mob with a psychic-imbued scarf hoping that he will calm down, to no avail. He uses his maximum power psychic barrier, tanking Mob's attacks without fighting back.

Teruki expressing his relief over Mob being average like him.
Even so, the difference in ability is plain, and Teru finds himself easily overpowered. Teru reminds Mob of his own words that espers should never point their powers at people. However, ???% ignores him and throws Teru into a building. Even being brutally attacked by ???, he points out how Mob was also actually an average person, expressing his relief at this. The situation begins to spiral out of control as the destruction of the city grows. It begins to fall apart around the two, with buildings collapsing and the street breaking into pieces. Teruki monologues about him having watched all the time how Mob was someone gullible softy yet so strong and mentions how, back then when they first, Mob was crying by himself, being the case now under ???%'s control, knowing that he didn't want to hurt people but still can't get control of himself. Teruki is ultimately struck with such tremendous force that his clothes are blown away, and the top of his scalp becomes bare, mirroring their first encounter. He becomes panicked upon hearing the screams of citizens caught in the crossfire. Struggling to approach Mob, he is slowly busted by ???%'s destructive power, with Teruki realizing that Shigeo needs to be stopped. To his relief, Hanazawa reaches out and touches Mob's shoulder, frantically tapping his chest in a desperate attempt to wake him up.

Teruki reaching Mob and tapping his chest in an attempt to wake his consciousness up.
His struggles manage to mentally awaken Mob, and upon seeing this, Shigeo begs Teruki to stop while crying out in desperation, but unfortunately, his pleas go unanswered as his, since his consciousness was separated fragmented, rendering him unable to articulate his thoughts. Despite being willing to accept Teruki's powers usage against him, the blonde boy reaches the limit of his own powers, using them to shield and safeguard everyone from the chaos caused by Mob's intense rampage. In doing so, he asserts himself as both Mob's rival and the eventual victor of their fight. Subsequently, Teruki loses consciousness, having successfully rescued the citizens trapped in the rubble and transporting them to safety using his psychic powers, which remain active. Later, Ritsu discovers an unconscious Teruki at the original location of the confrontation and moves him to a safer spot.[3]
Around six months later, everything in Mob's life has positively changed, with the city going back to normal and his friends safely continuing their lives. Teru accidentally meets Ritsu and Mob and heads with them to Reigen's birthday party with a new haircut. Not so long before that, the three, on their way to Spirits and Such Consultation Office, Teruki offers Mob go shopping again, as a new addition to the Hagemon (monkey clothing t-shirt brand) was out, which Mob accepts to Ritsu's dismay, since this latter was terrified on seeing his brother wearing the monkey shirt again and was about to interfere only to be interrupted by a sudden wind and seeing Teruki not affected at all by it, and is shocked as he sees a reflection of their first meeting, switching it to their actual relationship. Mob notices Ritsu's behavior, and politely asks if he wanted to hang out with them too, getting a refusal from him, excusing himself being busy with vice president duties. Mob ultimately comments that he really loved that t-shirt, getting a chuckle from Teruki as he asks, "Really?". Once there, with the Telepathy Club, Shou, Mezato, and the Awakening Lab kids included to hold the party, waiting for Reigen's arrival. During this period, Tome teasingly asks Mob about his "girlfriend" [Tsubomi], which only flusters Shigeo as he announced his love rejection, showing also Teruki sipping his tea without making any comment about it. When Reigen arrives along with Dimple, Mob and Teruki set off party poppers respectively, having officially started the celebration. As Reigen's cake was flipped into his face, Mob is seen laughing contently along with his other friends.[4]

Mob Psycho 100 Anthology[]
- In one of the comic strips, Mob spots Hanazawa as he monologues his gratefulness for helping him to save Ritsu, and ponders a gift he could give to Teruki. The next day he manages to get a present and offers it to him as a thanks for helping him out, and Teruki says that there was no need for him to do so as he takes it. Teruki comments that he was really happy, and asks about the content inside it, which Mob assures him that [the gift] would make him happy. Teruki thanks him, but he's in what appears to be a state of shock as he holds the item given; a Buttocks acne cream. The reason of this gift? This image explains it.

Fanon[]
Terumob is most written romantic ship for Teruki and the second most for Mob on AO3 as well as the third most written ship in the fandom (fourth if including gen Reigen & Mob), with 1187+ works created in romantic, and 446+ as gen. It's a fan-preferred couple in the fandom, leaving aside Mob's ships like EmiMob, TomeMob, MezaMob, or even ReiMob. Since both are the same age, people are fine shipping them romantically, although there are others who consider both being still minors to be in a relationship yet, setting them as only friends/gen pairing.
During the 2nd season adaptation, fans were a bit disappointed that Teru hadn't called Mob "handsome" like in the manga. However, they were also okay as the term "カッコイ" used by Teruki in the manga/anime translated into english also meant cool, attractive, and good-looking[5][6], which didn't really change much the significance of the scene.

Anime vs Manga
They were excited that Bones did not eliminate the scenes of both hanging out together buying clothes, mainly the (in)famous monkey shirt. There is even merchandise of the shirt available[7][8] and also an official art by ONE of Mob's classmates and friends along with Ritsu wearing it. The comparison between both scenes doesn't differ too much, remaining the faithful adaptation of the manga to the anime. "Rival" is considered the TeruMob's episode, as it's mostly focused on Teruki and Mob (???%)'s fight, and also a parallel to their first meeting, with how the tables had turned now: from Teruki @ Mob, to Mob @ Teruki. Teruki's character development is heavily focused on the episode, which made fans happy and worried about him, since he was literally on the verge of death by trying to stop Shigeo.

1.05/3.10
Many also empathized with him, sharing the feeling of utter sadness and crying with Mob, being a heartbreaking moment but at the same time one that would be marked in the history of the ship, although some half-jokingly said that this fight "crushed" Terumob's fans. The part where Teruki was choked by Mob's hand was also focused on by fans, comparing it to their first fight, in which it was Teruki instead of Mob, notably showing the boy's grown after meeting and losing against Kageyama, and the similar "listen to me this isn't you" situation that happened now and then. Even after Teruki's defeat, fans were very proud that he did a heroic act of trying to stop an unconscious Mob to prevent him to hurt other people, which is something he always feared of.
Once the last episode was released, some noted that Teruki's "gay sipping panel" wasn't removed from the anime[9], however the subtext of "Teruki feeling relieved over Mob's love interest rejection, also showing no interest at all or rather teasingly commenting about it" did, in part, faithfully follow the manga, which disappointed but hyped some fans, as Teruki's reaction might have been a sign of a possible reliefness after the turning down hidden behind his tea (manga-only). The fact that Teruki also invited Mob going shopping together heavily implicates they usually hang out together or have shopping dates whenever they can, with Shigeo not minding at all Teruki's unique fashion sense and ending up liking one of the clothes' brand Teruki had shown to him.[10] It can be seen when Mob's keeping in touch with Tsubomi on phone, as he's wearing a yellow Hagemon hoodie. They also noticed how Mob looked slightly taller than Teruki.[11]
The ship is widely accepted as one-sided on Teruki's part[12], being quite angsty, as Teruki's feelings might not be reciprocated by Shigeo since this latter had already devoted himself on someone else, and he prefers to support Shigeo in pursuing his love interest, which deeply affects him emotionally as he knows he will always be seen as just a friend and is out of reach romantically. There are some who disagree with the idea of rejection and remain hopeful that Shigeo is simply unaware of Teruki's feelings, and that he is hesitant to acknowledge them because he doesn't want to jeopardize their friendship. The characters' sexualities have not been officially confirmed in the canon, but it is widely accepted within the fandom that Teruki is bisexual and Shigeo may also be bisexual but is unaware or closeted about it.
One of the most known jokes of the ship is Mob not wanting to go out on a date with Teruki because of his current haircut[13], this latter being turned down on an instant. It began once fans were shocked over the new change on Teruki's hair, making him an easy target to bully, with people poking fun at it while some were also offended because it looked different from the manga, where it was originally introduced. They also began to compare it with other characters such as Yuga Aoyama[14] from My Hero Academia's fandom, or even Senpai[15] from Friday Night Funkin'. However, even before that, he, or rather his hairstyle, was already compared with Naruto Uzumaki or Katsuki Bakugou (see: World Domination Arc's haircut) priorly.
The ship's popularity is also attributed to the second OVA, where Teruki asked Mob if there was anyone he liked in his club. Teruki did not specify which club he was referring to, as Mob was a member of two clubs, but it is implied that he was asking about the Body Improvement Club, which consists of all boys, and Teru had previously encountered them in Teruki vs Mob, episode 5 - season 1. This indirect inquiry could suggest that Teruki was asking Mob if he liked boys. Alternatively, Teruki may have been referring to Shigeo's other club, the Telepathy Club, which included Tome. This scenario sparked significant fan interest and led to the creation of memes highlighting Teruki's implied crush on Mob in canon, notably the 'do you like boys' meme.[16][17] A fan art of it can be found here. With his claim, it prompted people to headcanon Teruki as bisexual (mentioned earlier), since he openly flirts with the girls and with Mob too.
It is a popular headcanon within the fandom that Teruki's admiration for Mob may actually be a romantic crush, evolving from admiration to adoration. Teruki, however, seems to be oblivious to his own feelings most of the time, and often denies them, believing that Mob perceives him differently. Despite this, Hanazawa drops hints about his feelings, which Mob tends to overlook or interpret as friendly interactions. Hanazawa also experiences jealousy and offers support for Shigeo's crush on Tsubomi, even though he is somewhat upset as he himself has feelings for Mob and realizes he cannot consider him more than a friend due to his existing affection for someone else. In some instances, Mob does notice Hanazawa's feelings but becomes confused because he views Hanazawa as a friend, only to later realize that Hanazawa might feel differently towards him. Eventually, Shigeo comes to the realization that he reciprocates Teruki's feelings, leading to them finally getting together. Fan works often depict study date sessions, where Teruki helps Mob with various subjects to improve his grades, providing them with an opportunity to spend more time together.
Reigen, Dimple, Mezato, the Improvement Club, and Mob's friends are all supportive of the relationship between Teruki and Shigeo. However, Ritsu remains wary of Teruki due to their initial encounter, and though he may not see Teruki as a good match for his brother, he respects Mob's choices and wishes for their future together. Surprisingly, Tsubomi, who is considered to be Shigeo's love interest, is also encouraging and playful towards Mob's relationship with Teruki. Even Emi, though less commonly present in TeruMob fan fictions, is depicted as being okay and happy with their bond.
It is important to note that the ship does not typically extend beyond romantic interactions, as it is widely agreed upon in the western fandom due to the characters being minors. In fan art, the interactions between Teruki and Mob mostly consist of simple gestures such as holding hands and cuddling, with kisses being less common but not rare. Teruki is often portrayed as being flirtatious towards Mob, and there are instances where Shigeo unconsciously reciprocates the flirtation, leading to moments of unexpected embarrassment for Hanazawa. Additionally, there are situations where Teruki indirectly asks Mob about his preferences, seeking a chance for a romantic relationship.
The change of Teruki after his defeat was very radical, and it felt sweeter. Terumob shippers would say that it was all about getting to know Mob and his way of being so nice and humble. Teruki's change also improved his relationship with Mob amazingly even if they had to fight, literally, for that development, and the fact that Mob gradually accepted it, although a little confused at first. Fans of the pairing usually ship it alongside with Serirei and Shouritsu. In rare cases, TsuTome (Tsubomi x Tome) is also shipped along with Terumob and the other ships mentioned.

Trivia[]
- They are often placed next to each other in official art.
- Mob is seen wearing a new monkey t-shirt with the same design as the past one in the official art by Bones for the last episode of the anime.[18]
- Teruki and Shigeo are from different middle schools. Teruki is from "Black Vinegar Middle School" and Mob is from "Salt Middle School".
- Teruki is the opposite of Shigeo; Hanazawa is popular with girls and handsome, meanwhile Mob can't understand girls and he feels like he's invisible to them.
- In the season 2 outro, there is a clip of Mob and Teru walking home from school together and talking happily.
- Itou Setsuo, Mob's Japanese voice actor, always states that his favorite character from the series is Teru when asked during interviews.[19]
- After being asked in an interview who could he say the other characters in MP100 are for Mob, between them Teruki was included, and quoted: "Teru-kun is the person Mob-kun can sympathise with the most. At first I suppose he was something like a rival, but now, if Mob-kun were to have any troubles regarding his powers, I think the person he’d turn to first would be Teru-kun. Rather than shishou… (laughs)".[20]
- When asked about a character that would be suitable in portraying if he wasn't cast as Mob, he answers: "[...] If we’re only talking about the first season, I would say Teru (Teruki Hanazawa)."[21]
- In Bones' official Graduation Event promotional art it's depicted the main cast holding bouquets of flowers. Mob is seen holding a small bouquet with only two roses of different colors —one being purple and the other yellow— which interestingly resembles Teruki's main character colors (blonde-haired with Black Vinegar Middle School uniform, which suit jacket is purple). The meaning of the purple rose signifies respect and the yellow one, friendship.[22]
- Also the colors apparently seem to resemble their power auras respectively: the yellow rose resembles Teruki's (whose aura also includes light blue and green colors) and the purple one (being associated with the sky blue and pink colors too), Mob's.[23]
