TetoNeru is the ship between Kasane Teto and Akita Neru from the Vocaloid and Utau fandoms.
Canon[]
Teto and Neru are both voice synthesizers that are commonly found in Vocaloid media. Both characters are conceived from the Vocaloid/UTAU fanbases, except their history differs widely:
Teto was a troll character created by fans as an April Fools joke before gradually becoming accepted into Piapro and then eventually Project Diva. Neru, in contrast, is a recognized derivative (a character based on an existing one) as a clapback to the supposed "anti-Miku negative campaign". After Google and Yahoo! Japan announced the Miku search failure spiraled from a technical problem, Akita Neru was accepted and adopted by Crypton as an official derivative character of Miku.
The two have become frequently used and recognized characters since then.
Songs[]
A noteworthy song featuring the two is "Triple Baka" with Hatsune Miku. The song centers around being considered an "idiot" for being pumped and excited which makes you forget all about your tasks and obligations. The visuals are chaotic, having the two fly together and make repetitive sounds. This song reached over one million views and entering the Hall of Legend.
Fanon[]
As a duo, the two were commonly mistaken for being official VOCALOIDs. The song Triple Baka, which is the jackpot for new Vocaloid fans, influenced this common misconception. As stated before, Neru is a derivative whilst Teto is a UTAU. The two are commonly shipped together for many reasons, which may include popular tropes such as Opposites Attract or Pair the Spares. The two may be shipped for their character history of being false Vocaloid inspired characters to later becoming recognized and adopted. Their relationship often depends on the song they're featured in.
A common plethora of songs manipulate the relationships between the voice banks. Because of this, Neru and Teto are either considered platonic, romantic, or enemies. The two are well-recognized on AO3 (Archive of Our Own).
