The Demigod Who Lived is the slash ship between Harry Potter and Percy Jackson from the Harry Potter fandom and the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles fandom.
Canon[]
As Harry and Percy are from two different book series (and thus two different universes), they have never met each other. Despite that, they share many similarities with one another. Both are seemingly "ordinary" boys who struggle at school and making friends. Percy always finds himself getting into trouble and expelled from schools, whereas Harry is often seen as "strange" by his peers and his adoptive families. At the start of the respective first novels, each discovers that they have a powerful, magical parent. They are then whisked away to a new location, to learn how to harness and control their powers. At Camp Half-Blood, Percy meets Annabeth and Grover. At Hogwarts, Harry meets Hermione and Ron.
Both Harry and Percy are classic examples of heroes going through the Hero's Journey. They follow the rise and fall of the journey throughout their first novels, and sometimes continue to follow the pattern through their later books as well. Harry and Percy are both considered to be brave and courageous young boys, with a bit of a sarcastic streak. They are each the center of an important prophecy, which declares them as the "Chosen One". In the end of their respective series, they triumph against the "Big Bad". Although they each end up with their respective love interests by the series' finales (Annabeth for Percy and Ginny for Harry), both have been shown to be a bit "clueless" when it comes to love.
Harry and Percy both share a lot of similarities in terms of physical appearance as well. Both have dark hair and green eyes, with their eye colour being an important tie back to one of their parents (Lily Potter for Harry, and Poseidon for Percy). Although Harry has a much more signature look (with his round glasses and lightning bolt scar), without his glasses they might be mistaken for each other. They are each considered "half-bloods", although the word holds a very different meaning in each universe. For Harry, a half-blood means that he is the son of a pureblood and a muggleborn. For Percy, a half-blood means that he is the child of a mortal and a human; otherwise known as a "demi-god".
The first film in the respective movie adaptations of the two series was directed by the same man, Chris Columbus. As such, even more similarities might be drawn from Harry and Percy's film counterparts than their literary ones, thanks to Chris Columbus' vision and directorial style.
Fanon[]
Harry Potter and Percy Jackson and the Olympians were both popular children's/YA novels in the mid-2000s. Along with the Twilight Saga, the books and characters were often compared to each other. There was significant overlap of the fanbases, specifically with HP and Percy Jackson, particularly within young adult fandom, hence resulting in a crossover fandom.
Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, in particular, shared many similarities, even down to their physical appearances. As such, fans began to imagine them interacting with each other. Some fanfiction existed that simply put the Percy Jackson characters into the Harry Potter universe (and vice versa), without the original fandom's character's existing, but others utilized the crossover opportunity to have Harry and Percy meet.
On AO3, the ship is currently more popular as a platonic friendship than a romantic ship. On Fanfiction.net, Percy Jackson & The Olympians is the second most popular fandom for Harry Potter crossovers, only falling behind the Twilight Saga. Harry Potter is the most popular crossover fandom for Percy Jackson.
