The Existential Crisis Brothers is the friendship between Kaufmo, Pomni and Gummigoo from the The Amazing Digital Circus fandom.
Canon[]
The trio are currently the only characters within the The Amazing Digital Circus series to enter an existential crisis on screen; Pomni accidentally cages herself in the digital plane, Kaufmo abstracts from insanity and Gumigoo unearths that he is an NPC. However, Kaufmo and Gumigoo are considered deceased (Caine deleted Gumigoo and Kaufmo was banished into the cellar) due to their unfortunate fates. Kaufmo’s character outside of his abstraction was not explored because of this. Pomni featured signs of abstraction, thus meaning she had the chance of joining Kaufmo in the cellar shortly. But she had recovered underneath the belief she had emotional support from her acquaintances. Unlike Kaufmo, Gumigoo had been mentioned to potentially return in further episodes but without the memory of Pomni and his true existence as an NPC.
All share the desire to escape their realities to fulfill a better life. Examples include Gumigoo moving out of the candy land to enter the circus, Kaufmo abstracting to find the exit, and Pomni's constant desire to locate an escape from the circus. Notably, each time they find meanings of escape, Caine steps in and foils it. Although Caine's attempt at preventing them resulted in the "death" of Gumigoo and Kaufmo, it is unclear if the same fate will occur for Pomni.
It is assumed that Pomni is the youngest of the trio. This is stated because of Kaufmo's abstraction being caused from his prolonged existence within the circus. Along with this, Gumigoo has the chance of existing before Pomni's arrival due to being Caine's one of many NPCs and can be recycled. The term "youngest" in her predicament relates to how much of her existence was spent within the digital plane. Whereas there is a chance she is truly the youngest, there is a possibility she is older than both men in the physical world.
Fanon[]
The first known fanart depicting the trio originates from @latehere on Tumblr (who is also the one who coined the name). Fans often joke about the characters’ serious mental damage since they are the only characters known to have expressed their crisis on screen. The ship isn't widely acknowledged within the fandom. This is plausible due to the characters having barely any/no interactions as a group. Additionally, fans focus intently on singular ships such as FunnyGummy and or ButtonBlossom, leaving the popularity of The Existential Crisis Brothers low and existing for comical entertainment.
