Theomione is the het ship between Theodore Nott and Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter fandom.
Canon[]
Hermione and Theodore are in the same year at Hogwarts. However, they do not know each other well and have few interactions.
In their fifth year at Hogwarts, Hermione studies in the Hogwarts library and sees Theodore (and Draco, Crabbe and Goyle) from afar. She whispers to Harry that the boy's name is Theodore Nott.
In their sixth year, Hermione and Theodore both study N.E.W.T.-level in Potions. He sniggers with Draco when Hermione mentions she is a Muggle-born. Long after the war, Hermione asks Harry about Theodore Nott and he tells her he has been put in custody.

History of Theomione[]
Initially a rarepair, this ship has grown in recent years. The first Theomione story on AO3 is dated from 2006, though the ship did not pick up steam until roughly 2018. As of 2022, the ship over 1,000 works on AO3. It is the most popular ship involving Theodore, the second being NottPott and the third Dreo.
Not much is known about Theodore's character. He only appears a handful of times in the books. Due to this, Theo's character is often a blank slate and this allows fanfiction writers to be imaginative with his character—almost to the point of Theo being an OC.
The ship is often viewed as an alternative to Dramione. Theomione is similar in being a Slytherin and Gryffindor romance but differs in a few ways. Namely, Theo is often smarter than Draco, and less likely to use insults (like 'Mudblood'). Theomione is considered more of a friends-to-lovers romance, as opposed to Dramione's enemies-to-lovers dynamic. Theodore's character is often written as someone who despises his father's beliefs and can match Hermione's intelligence.
The ship has some early popularity, but was mainly a rarepair. In 2006, a ship manifesto was posted to LiveJournal by magic_at_mungos.[1]. They also had a LiveJournal community created in 2013 called theohermione.[2] Around 2018, the ship exploded in more popularity. In 2022, a Tumblr blog called 'Accio Theomione' was created to collect fanfiction and fanart of the pairing.[3]

Common Tropes[]
Theodore's character has little canonical appearances, and as a result, writers are often creative. There is no one way to write Theo. Despite this, some common tropes appear in Theomione fanfictions, namely:
Friends-to-Lovers — This is probably one of the most popular tropes with Theomione. They are often viewed as the 'friends-to-lovers' alternative to Dramione.
Dark Academia — The concept of dark academia is a recent trend popularised around 2017. This is an aesthetic trend relating to ancient art, classical literature, the arts, poetry, higher education and more. The aesthetic is common in Theomione edits and fanfiction. Theodore and Hermione are often written as smart, matching each other's intelligence. Theodore has a darker past, specifically his father being a death eater. With these qualities, it is no wonder that dark academia is a common trend with Theomione. Libraries are common settings in Theomione stories, and often Theodore is written as a character who enjoys reading, poetry and sometimes plays classical instruments like piano.
Time Travel — A trend popular across Harry Potter fanfiction in general.
The Appeal[]
On Tumblr, an anonymous ask was sent to a Nott fan blog 'the-house-of-nott' asking about the ship's appeal. Some replies included:
- “Theomione is, more often than not, a friends-to-lovers ship with all of the same delicious angst of Dramione. Theo is still the son of a Death Eater, still a Slytherin, and still (most likely) was pressed into service during the war. In addition, Theo was raised by a widower and is the only fifth-year Gryffindor or Slytherin student besides Harry & Neville who can see thestrals. The potential for angst is endless. Most importantly, in my opinion, is Theo never called Hermione names.”

- “Theomione has that academia/dark academia thing going on too, just by virtue of their characterization, how way they would meet and know each other, and the absence of the direct pressure of the whole world on their shoulders”
- — chariphrasis[5]
- “For me, it's all the softness of secret meet-ups in the library, hidden so deep in esoterica no one will find you and catch you being someone you're not supposed to be. It's not the sun and the moon, it's distant planetary bodies, winking in and out of visibility so fast you can't even tell they're not constant and bright. It's valuing and admiring someone's mind from the very beginning and never being able to do anything about it, the constant challenge to intellectual sterility: continual self-assessment. It's seeing the "other" and not understanding, never understanding what's not to love. It's trading references and marginalia, and being marginalia. Theomione is, imo, what actual star-crossed lovers is. It isn't about the enemies to lovers, not that I don't love Dramione, but being from two separate, opposed worlds.”
