Thorgeir is the slash ship between Asgeir and Thorkell from the Vinland Saga fandom.

Canon

Anime & Manga

Asgeir is Thorkell's second-in-command who is much more intelligent and calmer than his boss. This is shown on multiple occasions. For example, Asgeir stopping Thorkell's duel with Thorfinn during the first arc when it becomes clear that Thorkell has been outwitted. In his ire, Thorkell expresses his willingness to kill Asgeir in retaliation. In response, Asgeir offers to let Thorkell kill him for stopping Thorkell's duel with Thorfinn, because he knows he's replaceable, but Thorkell isn't. This calms Thorkell enough to accept it, though begrudgingly.

Thorkell does have quite an immature/childish side, and Asgeir often has to try to navigate around that in the name of looking out for Thorkell's best interests and acts to keep him grounded in reality. At several points in the Baltic Sea War arc, he is seen wearily facepalming when some new childish notion or whim strikes Thorkell. While Asgeir lacks Thorkell's strength and charisma, and knows he'd have no way of keeping Thorkell's band together without his boss, he's the one who handles logistics and the day-to-day running.

In the Baltic Sea War Arc, Thorkell told his men not to kill a beast he wanted to keep as a toy, but Asgeir used common sense and told him that that thing probably eats a ton of food and how food doesn't come free. Thorkell answered that he would give it half of his share then and like a kid who's talking to his mother, repeatedly pleaded to him if he could keep it. When Asgeir still gave him a no, Thorkell pouts like a child much to Asgeir's annoyance.

Fanon

Thorgeir is frequently shipped due to their commander/lieutenant dynamic and proximity to one another. Asgeir acts as the brains to Thorkell's brawn despite being subservient to him, which creates an entertaining dynamic for fans. They complement each other and Asgeir's screentime is relegated to when Thorkell is onscreen, generally. Asgeir and Thorkell share a similar dynamic as Askejorn with a second-in-command who is extremely loyal to their boss.

It is both characters' most written ship with 28+ works on A03.
