Not long after Prince Naveen arrives in New Orleans and had began to dance and play with some of partying locals, while passing Duke's Café with them he sees Tiana at work and tries to flirt with her, to which Tiana rolls her eyes at him before going back to work while Naveen simply shrugged his shoulders before continuing to playing music with the locals; as he knows that there would always be other woman. Despite knowing that he has to marry a rich young lady in order to become wealthy again, since his parents had cut him off from their family's fortition and he wasn't keen on the idea of finding a job. Tiana's reasons for not falling for his charms was simply due to her don't being interested in finding a man to settle with, like her mother wants her too, and as a child she wasn't interested in romance. As well as the fact that her mind is solely focused on her father's unaccomplished dream of opening up his own restaurant that he wanted to name Tiana's Place, as she has a gift for cooking amazing flavoured food as a child and he believed that food like theirs can bring people together; a dream that she puts all of her hard earned money towards so all of the hard work he had done before his death wouldn't be for nothing. Sometime after their brief encounter, Naveen gets himself turned into a frog by Dr. Facilier.
After Naveen escaped, while Lawrence impersonates him so he and Facilier could get Eli La Bouff's money through his daughter Charlotte, he finds a princess dressed Tiana on the balcony of the La Bouff mansion as she wishes upon a star. Before their second encounter, Tiana had finally got enough money to buy the building that she plans to refurbish into her and her father's long awaited restaurant, and was expecting to sigh the pagers that would grand her ownership of the said building at the La Bouff's masquerade party during Mardi Gras, the Fenner brothers, the Real Estate agents, inform Tiana that she has been outbidder unless she is able to present enough money that would officially make the building hers before Wednesday, and as the two walked away from Tiana just as she is able to have a few other words of objection about her case, she falls into one of the food displayed table that made a mess of her costume. When Charlotte the state her childhood friend is in, she brings Tiana to her room so she could get clean up and change into a different outfit; that just happens to be a sparkly blue princess dress and a silver tiara to complete it. When the princess dressed Tiana noticed frog Naveen, she assumed that it was karma to the last time she wished upon a star for the said restaurant and later found a frog staring at her as a child, because Tiana was read the Frog Prince that very night she sarcastically asks the frog if he is expecting a kiss from her, unware that he'll be able to answer her and ends up screaming at the talking frog all while trying to get away from him. Naveen tries to explain himself to the frightened Tiana, as throughs toys at him before grabbing a book that she hits him with as he told Tiana is name and title. Hearing Naveen say that he is a prince shocked Tiana has she didn't wished for a prince and she had saw Charlotte dancing with a human Naveen.
