When Tim was brought to the Batcave for the first time, Alfred called Batgirl to lend them a hand with the boy while he tends to Bruce. This has Babs finding Tim up stairs in the manor, after he wondered out of the cave and had got his hands on a few items. Batgirl reveals those stolen items on Tim's person after she brought him back down to the cave. Barbara was shocked that the boy was left on his own by his father, when he left Gotham to get away from Two-Face. Believing Tim to be asleep in bed, Batgirl and Batman look into Tim's father to help them gain a better idea of the man and his connection to Two-Face. Babs learns that both father and son have had a hard life, along with Tim's missing father matching the description of a John Doe that was pulled from the river. Tim over hears this and while Babs tried to sugar coat it for the young boy, Batman went with full out honesty. Tim wanting to help Batgirl and Batman stop Two-Face led to him becoming the new Robin. Despite the rocky start, Babs was glad that Bruce was taking the kid in and train him up, rather than sending Tim off to an orphanage. With the Batfamily, however, Tim has a chance to turn his life around beside people who care about him.
What happened to Tim in the Batman Beyond universe is revealed in its film. Within the film's flashback of Barbara's cap and cowl days revealed the shocking event that also affected her. From seeing Tim being altered and brain washed by Joker, after he tortured the boy. During her battle with Harley Quinn, Batgirl asked the female clown how she could have let Joker do that to Robin. After defeating her and regrouped with the others, Batgirl finds Tim crying from his brake down of him killing Joker. She held him in her arms as she tells Tim that everything will be alright. Babs then asked her father to help them berry the body and to keep what happened that night a secret for Tim's sake. Even though Tim was able to regain his sanity again, both he and Babs had enough of caps, cowls and Bruce they decided to leave it all behind. Barbara blamed Bruce for the way he treated Tim and does her best to stay in touch with him, so he'll have someone to talk with.
When the Joker returned Babs was worried for how it would affect Tim and knew that he would want to see her for support on the matter. Like Bruce, she refused to tell Terry what happened between them and the original Joker to protect Tim. Until she was forced to reveal the long kept secret after Bruce was attacked. Along with Terry discovering that Tim is connected to the new Joker. Luckily Terry was able to save Tim and bring him to hospital, where Babs goes to see him to make sure he was okay.
