Cass meets Tim for the first time

Cass meets Tim for the first time

Cass and Tim first meet in Barbara Gordon's Clocktower during the No Man's Land event, before Cass has a name. She grabs Tim's hand to lift it and give him a fist-bump. Tim is startled, but Babs just tells him she's saying hello. Babs explains Cass's past to him and the others gathered, and Tim nervously asks about her past as an assassin. Barbara tells him Cass doesn't and won't kill, and Tim says that's cool. Later Bruce shows up to say that they need to work together, Tim asks if that means Cass, too, and Bruce says that he can trust her. Cass becomes Batgirl and joins the Batfamily.[1]

Tim's father reports him as missing in the restricted zone of No Man's Land, Bruce calls in the government to stage him actually being lost and called home. Bruce tells him he needs a guardian angel, and brings in Cass. Tim thinks that Cass gives him the creeps. The next morning Cass and Tim head to Grant Park, as Tim changes into his civvies, he thinks that he'll be glad to leave Gotham, but mostly glad to get away from Cass. He asks Cass to keep his costume safe, and as the helicopters come in, he advises Cass to get out of sight. Tim is nervous about the extraction, and thinks to himself that he and Cass covered anything he needs to be worried about. As Tim gets secured to the line attached to the helicopter, they get attacked, and Cass hops in to dispatch the attackers. The Fed protecting Tim goes to shoot her, but Tim stops them, saying that she's trying to help. As tim watches her he thinks that he understands how Cass got the job. Cass holds onto the line, much to Tim's surprise, and Tim again stops the men from shooting her. Cass lets go, performing a series of flips that Tim remarks would have made Dick proud. Cass watches as the helicopter leaves.[2]

Bruce has been sent a video of Cass killing a man at eight years old, he doesn't believe the video, and asks Tim to do research. Tim confirms that the death had witness reports of a man who looked like David Cain and a little girl in a pink dress. He asks if this has anything to do with Batgirl. Bruce hangs up.[3]

Kon is in Gotham with Tim when Cass calls for help. Tim explains Cass's skills and says that she wouldn't call for backup unless something went incredibly wrong. Kon talks the entire fight, and Cass goes over to defend Tim from an attacker and makes a questioning noise at him (over Kon's behavior). Tim says he knows and that he'll explain later. Kon and Cass ditch Tim while he's talking to Oracle, who is telling them to wait for Batman and not have Cass fight any metas. When he turns to see that they've left, he calls himself an idiot multiple times.[4]

Batgirl and Robin[]

Cass and Tim both accidentally meet while they are busting the same group of people, Tim watches Cass dodge bullets, and under his breath says "Bullet dodging. Okay." Tim explains to Cass that he's there for their Boss, and figures Cass is there for the assassin. He hands Cass a tracker with a tracer on the trackers truck. Tim awkwardly says he'll see Cass around later, and leaves. Cass follows the tracker, which leads her to the same place Tim is scouting out, when he sees her he mutters "you've got to be kidding." Tim, bewildered, asks why the assassin came here, and they both figure out it's due to his money. Cass and Tim rush in together, defeating the criminals. They find the hostage, who says his daughter was taken, and agree to split up. Cass gets shot in the shoulder while chasing the assassin and must stop. Tim catches her as she begins to fall from blood loss, and asks how she was even shot. As Cass stitches herself back up, Tim figures out it's because the assassin is using cybernetics, and Cass can't dodge because she can't read his body movements, as the movements are electronic/automatic. Tim turns and sees the scars on Cass's back, he asks if they're exit wounds, saying that they're very big. Cass answers that she grew, and when Tim asks why Cain would shoot her, she says it was for training.[5]

Tim gets a call about a ransom note for the girl kidnapped, he assumes that the man will leave the girl alive, and plans to wait and scope the area. Cass says that he'll kill her, and when Tim asks why she says it's because he didn't get his money. Tim asks how he'd get the money if he kills the girl, and Cass says that he'll tie her and blindfold her, and no one would be able to tell if she's dead or alive. Tim asks if she really thinks he'd do that, and Cass says she knows his type. As they chase after the man, Tim suggests Cass stay behind due to her injury, but she refuses. They are able to safely retrieve the girl. Afterwards, Tim admits to Cass that he has been avoiding her due to her background as an assassin. Tim tells her his childhood is so normal, but she used to be the guy they just fought and turned herself into good guys like them, and he finds it intimidating. He says he shouldn't have let it affect the way he treated her, and apologizes, offering up a hand and asking to be friends. Cass takes his hand and smiles, agreeing to be friends.[5]

Harley Quinn steals Barbara's old Batgirl outfit, and pretends to be her. Tim and Cass try to stop her, and when attempting to kick Harley, Harley moves, making Cass kick Tim in the stomach. Cass helps Tim get up and Tim tells her not to worry, and that he wants to see her stopped, too. Tim gets caught off guard by Harley's banter, and gets hit because of it. Cass tells him to focus, and Tim tells her that he knows, she's just getting under his skin.[6] Cass and Tim meet up on the roof, and Tim asks if she wants to work her way down while he sweeps from the top up, Cass refuses and tells him to listen just as Harley and Dick crash through onto the roof. Together Cass and Tim try to lasso the motorcycle Harley is on, but both get pulled along for the ride, crashing into each other. They all meet up back at the Clocktower after Harley gets away, Cass makes a heart hand shape at Dick and Babs as they talk, and Tim smiles at her.[7]

Cass teams up with Connor Hawke to stop a cult that is coincidentally targeting Tim Drake's father. Tim and Stephanie Brown are in the audience of the ceremony, and in the chaos escape to don their vigilante identities and join Connor and Cass. Cass guides them all with the tracker as Tim drives to the pier. Cass dives into the water to gather evidence, and Stephanie calls her weird, Tim scolds her, but Steph says she meant it in a nice way. Connor mentions that she is different than Batman and Robin, and Tim says that she has a lot of issues. As they fight the cult, Cass yells at the others to go, the building starts to burn, and Tim shouts at Cass to leave, but Connor urges him to keep running. Cass tries to go back into the fire to save the enemy, but Tim and Connor both grab her and tell her not to. They all leave together.[8]

For Tim's 16th birthday, Bruce sets up a test where he fakes a message from the future telling Tim that someone in the Batfamily turns traitor and causes a bad timeline, and tasks Tim in finding out who it is and stop them. One of Tim's first suspects is Cass, due to him not knowing her well, although he says that's not the only reason he suspects her first. He also mistakenly believes that Cass had no concept of morality until she met Batman, despite her morality and sense of no-killing stemming from well before she met any of the Batfamily. He says that she lived in a world of pure action and sensation, and compares her to a cat. Tim says that once Cass "tasted" morality that she took to it like a parched girl to water, and believes that her time with with family has changed her whole world. Tim questions what would happen if she doesn't know when to stop, believing her not to have the inborn sense to know when to stop, or when it becomes too far. He says he can see her morality growing cancer style until she sees a sense of justice worth destroying Gotham for. Tim believes that she is learning to be human, and may get the wrong idea.[9]

Tim watches Cass as she takes the guns from some criminals, telling them no more guns and that she's always watching. The men tell her someone else is coming with a gun, so she takes them away to safety and repeats her order of no guns. Tim thinks that that was a solid take down, and he couldn't have done it better himself. He admits to himself that he might have put Cass at the top of his suspect list simply because she is weird, but then thinks that ten years is a long time, and anything could happen. Eventually Cass suspects that she is being followed, and Tim flees, moving on to another suspect.[9]

Cass gets told by a civilian that she looks like she has no soul in her current Batgirl costume. Cass asks Barbara Gordon how she felt being Batgirl, and Barbara mentions how the costume made her feel sexy, and that it was fun. Cass takes Babs' Batgirl outfit and ends up helping Tim while he is overwhelmed and being attacked. Tim asks what's with her new outfit, and says he doesn't mind it, eventually calling her "hot" before getting cut off due to being knocked in the head by a rioter. They find a drug called Soul, and Tim explains its properties, then tells her she looks fantastic in the costume, but tells her not to let Bruce see or he'll ground her. He leaves. Cass gives the costume back to Barbara, and when Babs offers it to her full time, Cass refuses.[10]

Cass gets drugged by soul and begins to hallucinate her family and friends prodding at her insecurities, and things that make her uncomfortable, such as being objectified. The hallucination of Babs infantilizes her, telling her she's a poor little baby who needs love and affection. The hallucination of Tim agrees that she needs love and affection, and then says they should've seen her in Babs' costume, and calls her hot again.[11]

Cass gets fired from being Batgirl, but still goes out on her own anyway. She saves Tim from a hoard of rioters, moving so quickly that Tim doesn't see her. Tim calls Bruce to tell him about it, calling his helper amazing, and Bruce notes that they were taken down using "The Falling Leaf" a technique only two people know, Cass and her father.[12]

Cass and Bruce begin to fight each other while presumably high on soul, Tim is tasked with getting the antidote. Bruce and Cass fall off the bridge and into the water, and Tim is the first one to find them and pull them up.[13]

Tim quits being Robin after his father discovers his identity. Stephanie Brown becomes to new Robin. A serial killer has been hunting down and killing boys who look like Tim, trying to find the previous Robin. Cass is sent to watch Tim. Tim asks why she's there, and Cass says she heard what happened and thought he could use the company.[14] Tim asks Cass why she's really here, and says they aren't close like him and Dick, and they don't have a history together. He tells Cass it isn't likely that she just came out to chat the night away with him, and to tell Bruce he isn't stupid. Cass says that Bruce figured he would figure it out, and tells Tim that he still impresses Bruce. Tim figures out that Cass is guarding him, and Cass tells him about the serial killer. She grapples away, saying that they have nothing to talk about now, and tells him not to look for her, but she'll be near.[15]

Robin/Batgirl: Fresh Blood[]

Stephanie Brown is killed after War Games, and Cass and Tim are relocated to Bludhaven.

Cass saves Tim

Cass saves Tim

Tim gets attacked by Shrike, and is nearly killed, Cass shows up to save him at the last second.[16] As Cass saves Tim, she thinks to herself that Tim is good, but not at the level Cass is. Cass pauses fighting to ask Tim if he's okay, and Tim tells her to keep going and hit Shrike once for Tim. Cass agrees. After Cass defeats Shrike, Tim weakly approaches her to tell her the cops are coming, Cass tells him she's almost done with the "tournament" and Tim laughs and says she means tourniquet. Cass then carries Tim away as he is too injured to walk. Tim tells her he'll need "snitches" and Cass asks if he means stitches before realizing Tim is joking with her. Tim laughs.[17]

Cass notes that even though Tim is injured and has lost so much he is still able to joke and laugh, and says that for him there is always a bright side. Cass stitches Tim up, and Tim thanks her, which Cass responds to by saying it's what she's here for. Tim asks if Bruce sent her, and Cass says yes. Then Tim asks her if it was to keep an eye on him, and Cass says yes and no. Tim asks for a straight answer, telling Cass she sounds like Bruce, Cass asks if that's a bad thing, and Tim says "yes and no." Cass throws his words back at him. Ultimately she does tell Tim the story of how she got there, telling him that she saw Bruce talking to him at Stephanie's funeral, and how she knew he was leaving. Bruce looked at her, and she knew she was leaving, too. Later, Cass asks Bruce if he's sending Cass to Bludhaven to keep Tim safe, and Bruce says yes and no. Bruce tells Cass that no one is the fighter she is, but Tim has skills in other departments, and they compliment one another. When Cass finishes she asks if Tim wants to be "Batgirl and Robin--Bludhaven's dynamic duo." Tim just tells her he's exhausted, and she can stay there if she needs to. They make plans for capturing Blockbuster the next day, and Tim tells her goodnight before leaving. Cass looks dejected, but says goodnight back. Cass falls asleep on the couch reading and Tim wakes her up and makes her tea that Alfred told him she liked. Cass asks if he's feeling better, and Tim says that he's doable.[17]

Cass and Tim go to meet the police to question about Blockbuster. Tim does the questioning while Cass watches, and she interjects only to say that they're withholding information. Cass gets into an argument with Officer Rohrbach, that Tim interrupts. Cass and Tim go off together to a mansion full of criminals. Tim says he doesn't see security, but Cass says she does and tells him a person is never truly still and to look for the difference. Together they beat up the security, but then get intercepted by Blockbuster.[17]

They get surrounded by a crowd of villains, including the Penguin, Tim hopes Cass can read him well enough to know they shouldn't take on this many people, but Cass fights them anyway, saying that sometimes too many opponents are better than just a few. Tim thinks that at least she knows that they're just fighting to safety, and not to take out as many opponents as they can, but as Cass keeps fighting he wonders if she truly knows that. As they keep fighting, Tim notes that Cass is an impressive fighter, comparing her fighting to a dancers grand performance. They both get gassed, and end up tied back to back on chairs, which means Cass cannot read Tim's body language. Penguin frees them to put them against each other in a fighting match, with most bets on Batgirl, Tim desperately urges Cass to read his body language in his thoughts.[18]

Cass understands that Tim has a plan, and it depends on who wins. They begin to taunt each other to put up a show, with Cass telling Tim that she beat Shiva, and Tim couldn't even beat Shrike. Tim says that doesn't make her better than him, and it doesn't mean Batman will make her his successor. Tim tells Cass she'll never be him, and that deep down she's just his tool. Cass tells him he talks to much, and kicks him in the face. They keep fighting, Cass calls Tim weak and says he doesn't have what it takes to be Batman. Tim says he doesn't want to be Batman, and that he left to get away from him, and says that Batman sent her after him, instead. Tim pins her and punches her, saying he's sick of him and her and wants her to leave him alone. Cass gets 'knocked out which the Penguin suspects to be a ruse, he makes Tim shoot her to make sure she's dead. Tim does so, and Cass doesn't flinch. When the Penguin taunts her, she wakes up and headbuts him. Tim and Cass fight side by side again and Tim whispers to ask her if she's all right. Cass says she is, and asks him back, but Tim says the ask him later. Tim lets the Penguin go and grabs Cass to make a run for it, she asks why he did that, and Tim says they can't go to the police because of how many laws they broke. Cass tells him to ask her if she even cares, saying they needed to do what had to be done. Cass then pulls Tim out of the way of gunfire from Brutale. Tim hands Cass a tool and hey both use it to trap him. Eventually they flee the building entirely.[19]

Tim gives a drink to Cass

Tim gives a drink to Cass

Tim stitches up Cass's gunshot wound, and asks how she did that without flinching. Cass tells him she used to play 'two for flinching' with her father, but with bullets, and Tim is horrified. Cass brings up how Stephanie and her used to laugh at way worse, and Tim pulls away. Cass begins to apologize for bringing her up and calls herself stupid, Tim says she's not stupid, and offers her tea. Cass thanks him. Cass asks Tim if it felt good beating her, and Tim says it was rigged, so he didn't beat her. Cass tells him she means literally beating her up, and Tim interjects to say it's not okay, and it's never okay to feel good from hurting others. Cass asks why not, especially if it's justified. Tim says that violence is a tool, and Cass interrupts to say that Tim had called Cass a tool, and that he had meant it. Cass says that he had meant a lot of what he said. Tim apologizes, but admits that he did. Cass tells him that he might not want to take over for Batman, but she does, and asks if that's so wrong to think. Tim says that's not what he means, and tells her that Batman is an ideal, and it will always be an ideal to strive for, Cass says that they can still try, but Tim says they can't conform reality to that ideal. Tim says Bruce went too far during the gang war and Cass says he didn't go far enough, saying he should've pushed through the law, Tim says the law protects and you have to work within it. Tim eventually interrupts, smiling at Cass and saying they're going in circles, and that they need to agree to disagree. They also agree that they make a great team, but decide to go their separate ways for the time being, although they both know the other will be there if the need help.[19]

Batman Allies Secret Files and Origins, although not in Fresh Blood, is set during this time period. In it Cass and Tim spar together, with Cass trying to train Tim. Cass tells Tim that he's a quick learner, unlike her first student, Stephanie Brown. Tim sours at this, and Cass asks him if he thinks Stephanie's death was Bruce's fault. And Tim says that sometimes he does, Cass presses again, and Tim says he doesn't want to talk about it. Cass says he doesn't want to talk about it with her and Tim says he doesn't want to talk about it with anybody, but especially her. Cass gets upset, and says that Stephanie was also her friend. Tim apologizes and tells her that to Cass, Batman can do no wrong and that's why she wants to be him. Cass asks Tim if she scares him, and Tim says she doesn't right now, but sometimes she does, but that's just who she is. The conversation gets interrupted by an alarm tripping, and they suit up to go out. Cass takes down most of the bad guys, which annoys Tim, who says he won't get better if she keeps beating everyone before him. Cass begins to say they could've hurt him, but then just decides to apologize. Tim, still annoyed, says he may not be her but he can still hold his own, and that now they don't know why these guys were here. Cass says they were just robbers, and Tim says that it doesn't make sense with the equipment they have, telling her he gets to teach her a lesson now. They go back to base to read through the evidence, Tim urges Cass to read part of it, and Cass reminds him she can't read, Tim apologizes and says the computer will give her audio. Cass tells Tim that he's smart like Bruce, and Tim says he hopes he's smarter, and says Bruce has made some serious misjudgements. They get interrupted by the TV, as the announcer outs Stephanie Brown as being Robin.[20]

One Year Later and Batgirl (2008)[]

Cass gets brainwashed and drugged by Deathstroke into turning evil. Tim is the first one to discover her turn to villainy as she goes missing and he begins to look for her. Tim breaks David Cain out of jail to question him about Cass's whereabouts. Cass confronts him, but invites him to join her.[21] At first, Bruce assumes that Cass is "disturbed" and trying "to drive a wedge" between himself and Tim, and Tim accepts this assurance for the time being.[22] Eventually, Tim realizes that Cass' extreme transformation was actually caused by brainwashing, and Cass is freed from the drugging/mind control by a counteractive serum created by Tim.[23]

Cass goes back to being Batgirl, trying to find information on where to find David Cain. Dick interrupts her because he is distrustful on if she is truly good now. Their fight gets interrupted by Bruce and Tim, who defend Cass. Tim says that they've been working with Cass to fill the gaps in her memory. Tim explains to Dick how Deathstroke drugged her and manipulated her and how she wasn't in control.[24]

Cass flies off after Cain without telling anyone, thus furthering their mistrust. Bruce begins to doubt her but Tim reminds him that they don't know the full story yet. When Cass tries to shoot them down so they stop following her, Tim tells Batman that she didn't shoot to kill, only to get them to land. Bruce tells him to stop making excuses for her.[25]

Cass begins to let Cain fall to his death, choosing not to save him, but last second changes her mind and goes to save them. However she is too late, Cass tells Batman that she tried to save him, and Tim backs her up, saying he saw her. Cass says she shouldn't have waited, but Tim tells her after everything he did, moving at all was impressive. Bruce agrees, and tells Cass she didn't kill Cain, and that he is still alive. Bruce adopts Cassandra, and Tim smiles at her as he does.[26]

Black Bat and Red Robin[]

Cassandra Cain gives the Batgirl mantle to Stephanie Brown, and moves to Hong Kong to be an anonymous vigilante. Tim becomes Red Robin.

Tim says that he has stayed in touch with Cass after her move to Hong Kong, he says he didn't know what to expect, but says that she seems to be doing okay, although it is difficult to tell with her. Tim sneaks up behind her, and asks if he's gotten faster or if she's gotten slower, or if he just threw his voice. He notes that she's not wearing a bat symbol, he notes there's no sign she wants to be who she was, but between their messages and her being there, there's also no saying she isn't true to everything she wanted to become. They land in front of a large billboard of Tim as CEO, which Cass calls "subtle." They talk shop for a bit, but eventually Cass asks Tim why he came. Tim gives her a package containing a replica of her Batgirl costume, saying that things have settled in Gotham, and Bruce is back, so it's time to make it official. Cass refuses, telling Tim that there is a Batgirl and it's Stephanie, who needs it more. Tim asks what she needs, and Cass says she needs to just be. Tim says that's fair, but she can call herself whatever she wants, she'll always have family with them. Cass says thank you, but sometimes family isn't home, and leaves. Tim is happy she took the suit. He keeps in contact with Cass.[27]

Cass as Black Bat with Tim as Red Robin

Cass as Black Bat with Tim as Red Robin

Cass follows Tim's homing signal to Paris and saves him, Tim once again notes Cass's excellent fighting capabilities with pride. Tim thanks her for coming, and Cass says the opportunity was too good to pass up, and then stabs him in the chest. This opens up a door due to Tim's DNA. The stabbing was fake, however, and planned between the two of them to gain access. As the area self destructs, Tim yells at Cass to run, and they flee. Tim thanks Cass for her help, and she asks for help with Cricket in return. Tim notes that she wouldn't ask for help if it wasn't serious, and that he'll be in Hong Kong as soon as he wraps up. Tim goes back to help her with Cricket, a deadly 10-year-old assassin who is very fast, but they fail, and Tim goes home with a broken arm.[28]

Cass comes back from Hong Kong briefly, and Tim tells Dick that she was helping them with chasing Semtex. They begin to plan together, the conversation implies that they further kept in touch.[29] Tim teams up with Dick while Cass teams up with Damian, who insults her, saying that there's a reason she was the one sent away to Hong Kong. Cass leaves and calls Tim, who tells her she's wanted to kill him more times than she can count. Cass asks what's stopped him, and Tim says he'd have to explain to Dick, and says it's easier to just placate Damian. Cass asks how his matches are going, and Tim says he doesn't have anything yet, and that he's building a 3D model, which is easier said than done. Cass says it's what he does, and he'll figure it out. Tim asks what that means, and Cass says that that's his niche, what he's good at, and they all know it. Tim says he gets the feeling they're not talking about photogrammetry anymore, and Cass says she's just thinking aloud.[30]

Tim teams up with Damian while Dick is with Cass, and tells Damian that Cass isn't useless. When Damian says he doesn't trust her, Tim says he doesn't trust anyone, and Damian replies that his eagerness to trust makes him weak. Tim tells him to deny it all he wants but the real reason he doesn't like her is that she's just another person his father picked over him.[31]

Cass visits Tim after he hits his head and is benched, asking how he's doing. Tim jokes back an answer, and says he saw Damian blow up the Batboat, and Cass says they kind of did that together. Tim tells her that maybe it's for the best, and anytime they try to destroy something it finds a way to come back better than ever. Cass asks if they're still talking about the Batboat, and Tim asks what she thinks. Cass replies by telling him she thinks she's always liked it in Gotham, deciding to return for good.[32]

Convergence[]

During the convergence event, which tries to connect pre-flashpoint and post-flashpoint timelines, Cass is Black Bat while Tim is Red Robin. Steph gets chosen by name to be their cities champions, and Cass and Tim are tasked with training her. Together they get transported to the arena, and Cass confronts Tim and asks why he's so angry with her. Tim says he's not angry at her, he's angry at the situation, Tim wants to know why she was chosen and not him or Cass, and Cass says maybe because she's not predictable.[34] Later, Cass gets attacked and Tim attempts to save her. Tim and Stephanie wait by her bedside while she is in the hospital.[35]

Batman and Robin Eternal 3 TimCass
Batman & Robin Eternal[]

Cass and Tim's history and relationships get reset, only to return to their previous history after Dark Knights: Death Metal.

Cass is acting alone in trying to save different members of the Batfamily from an assassin, her father. Tim watches her chase after David Cain after he attacks but fails to kill Harper Row. They realize Jason is next and go to call him to warn him, Cass is already there.[36] They take Cass back to the Batcave to question her, and Tim mistakenly believes that she has the "mentality of a child" and to use what works on children--incentives. He asks if there's any candy or peanuts around for her. Cass doesn't answer and gets up, and touches Jason on his hand, Tim on his head, and Dick in the middle of his sternum.[37]

Rebirth[]

Cass and Tim are both recruited to be part of the Gotham Knights, a vigilante team led by Batwoman.[38]

While Tim and Stephanie are talking, Cass accidentally interrupts by coming in through their apartment window. After she leaves, Tim wonders aloud that he thought Bruce set her up with her own apartment, and Stephanie says she hasn't really gone there at all.[39]

The Gotham Knights all join up after Batman gets attacked, Tim notices that Cass isn't there, and realizes something is wrong, as he gave her a simple tap answer command that she hasn't used.[40]

When Tim is presumed to be killed by a drone strike, Cass can be seen holding her head in her hands, crying.[41]

Cass hugs Tim after finding out he's alive

Cass hugs Tim after finding out he's alive

Tim is found alive, Cass gives him a hug, and Tim tells her that he missed her, too.[42]

While staying in the Manor after Basil's death, Cass sneaks up behind Tim in the Batcave and asks what he's doing. Tim asks how she got in there when he locked every entrance. Cass points to the men he is running tests on, and calls them bad men, Tim agrees. Cass touches their masks and says "Batwoman" and Tim asks her if she's okay. Cass asks him if what they're doing is good, and Tim says that they try their best to be good, but sometimes they make mistakes. Cass compares this to Clayface. Tim tells her he's been meaning to ask if she needs a new scene partner like she was with Basil, and that Midsummer Night's Dream was always his favorite, he begins to sugges that they can run lines together but interrupts himself with an idea.[43]

Ulysses does something to Tim that turns half his body cybernetic and shows him alternate futures, one of which is Cass dying against Ra's while trying to find answers she couldn't in Gotham. In the real world Cass defends Tim's body and then tries to hit it to get him to wake up, but she gets caught in a headlock. Inside his own mind, Tim yells at Ulysses to let her go. Ulysses says he can save her and everyone else if he assimilates to the OMAC Project. Tim's body wakes up, and Cass runs over to him to ask if he's okay, but it is actually Ulysses, who electrically shocks her. [44]

Other[]

Tim meets up with Cass and Steph and asks for their help due to him being targeted by someone who knows where he lives. Cass helps Tim fight a giant glowing goldfish.[45]

Cass includes Tim in the photo of her and those she considers her family. She calls herself "Tim's wit."[46]

Batman: Wayne Family Adventures[]

This section is in need of major improvement. Please help improve this article by editing it.

The web comic series shows moments and activities Tim and Cass share with the other Bat sidekicks. Like fighting over the last cookie, secret game tournaments hidden from Bruce and Alfred and a few other fun things. From within or outside their civilian and vigilante lives. In the batkids' vigilante bingo, Tim and Cass have points in hero name changes, trained by assassins and pulling a prank on Batman while on the field.

There have been a few chapters that have Tim training with other members of the Batfamily, chapter 5 is one of the few training moment chapters to include both Tim and Cass. While Tim was caught up in a push ups contact with their brothers, Cass was the only one to stay out of it, while advising Tim and the others to not do so with only one arm in an handstand pose. Knowing that it would to pain in their arms later. Because Tim didn't listen to her, Cass watches him trying to eat dinner with his foot in place of a hand, from how neither of the Batbrothers were able to lift their arms. As for chapters like 82, Cass was tasked to test Tim and the rest of the Batfamily's on their stealth detecting skills, for silence presences. When Cass was testing Tim, however, he was asleep and didn't wake up until after Cass opened the window to give a sleeping Tim his failed slip.

Young Justice (animated series)[]

The night Cass was sent to kill Joker was also the night Tim and a few other Batfamily members first met her. Despite what she did to Batgirl, Tim knew that it was an accident, it saved Cass from becoming a killer, and welcomes her to the team. Now known as Orphan, Tim has her joining his team for a few missions. As shown when Orphan was part of Robin's team to follow the Mad Hatter, who turned out to be Clayface after Red Robin notices off about Jervis Tetch and Orphan sliced fake Tetch to reveal his true identity. Even though Orphan did this without checking with Red Robin first. After they found where the real Mad Hatter was hiding, Orphan kept Clayface from harming Red Robin while he was trying to figure out what he was up to, allowing him to notice the bombs. Cass also helps him to get their team out of the building in time.

Cassandra Cain co-creator Damion Scott came to ship Cass and Tim together as a romantic couple, before either of them was legally adopted by Bruce Wayne.

“While working on Batgirl and Robin I noticed there was a chemistry between Batgirl and Tim. They kind of act like two people in love with each other who haven't accepted it yet. For this story I projected them 15 years into the future, married to each other and their mission.”
— Damion Scott in Solo #10 (2006)

Fanon[]

Cass debuted as Batgirl while Tim was the main Robin, and as such are paired together quite often in sibling fan content. Due to this Tim is portrayed as Cass's closest sibling relationship. Despite their two year age difference and Tim being a white guy while Cass is a biracial Asian woman, the fandom often dubs them the "twins" of the Batfamily, due to fan artists and comic artist Marcus To drawing them similarly.

Back in the early 2000s, a few fans shipped Cass and Tim together as a romantic couple, but most of those shippers gave up after they were legally adopted. Because the two are adopted and not related by blood, some use that detail as a means to advocate for turning TimCass from a platonic ship to a romantic one. Those who want to keep them siblings disagree, from wanting to keep TimCass wholesome. This could be due to those who like to place them as a platonic version of DickBabs, with Tim and Cass being a former Robin and Batgirl them they first started out.

Trivia[]

  • Cass is older than both Jason and Tim, in the original version of the story.[47][48][49] In some later versions, she's implied or stated to be younger.
  • Cass' first romantic kiss was with Kon-El, one of Tim's good friends.[50] When the flirtatious Superboy asked if Batgirl was "hot", Tim confirmed that she was.[51]
  • Jen Zee, art director for Supergiant Games (famously including the game Hades), made fan art for the Tim/Cass couple in the year 2006.[52]
