“Luz, I'm so happy I had you as a big sister.”
— King to Luz, King's Tide

Titanlights is the familyship between Luz Noceda and King Clawthorne from The Owl House fandom.

Canon[]

A Lying Witch and a Warden[]

Luz first meets King when Eda takes her back to the owl house. Upon seeing him, she immediately grabs and cuddles him, squealing about how cute he is. King is alarmed by this, but quickly adjusts, and uses Luz's head and shoulders as a perch. Eda tells Luz that King was once a powerful demon until he lost his crown and it caused his form to change to the tiny creature he appears to be. Luz agrees to help him retrieve his crown of power, but it turns out to only be a paper crown from a fast food chain. Nevertheless, King is grateful for its return. When his crown is crushed, Luz replaces it with a crown off of one of her dolls, and King accepts. Luz plans to leave, but King begs Eda to let her stay, on the basis that she can make snacks. The first night Luz stays at the owl house, King asks to sleep with her, and curls up at the foot of her sleeping bag.

Witches Before Wizards[]

Luz wakes King up with a hug, which he protests too, insisting he is not her "cutie pie." After she insists he is, he sighs and relents, accepting the affection. Eda gives Luz the task of delivering potions, and instructs King to keep her company and out of trouble. Luz is a bit disillusioned with the magical nature of the world, but an old wizard tells her she is a Chosen One and gives her a magic quest. King, annoyed with Luz's naive optimism, mocks her for believing the wizard. Luz runs off to go on the quest, and King reluctantly accompanies Eda to save her. Afterward, Eda takes both of them for a flight on her staff, to see a beautiful scene of the Isles up high. Luz leans against Luz while Eda talks.

The Intruder[]

Luz records a video of King fighting a ducky sock. King attempts to give Luz a lesson on demons, but Luz doesn't pay attention, instead continuing to record King and put silly filters on him. King ends up hurt and frustrated. Luz runs out into the boiling rain, unaware that it will hurt her, and King applies a bandage to her arm, proclaiming the two of them to be "Boo Boo Buddies." Luz adores this and squeals, saying "Oh my gosh I love you so much."

Later, Eda passes out, and Luz and King are attacked by a mysterious monster in the house. Luz disappears and King initially believes her to be captured by the monster. He valiantly races after her, until she grabs him and King is relieved to find she is safe. The two figure out the monster is Eda, under a cursed form. They share a heartfelt moment where King confesses that his earlier lesson about demons was so important to him because no one takes him seriously or pays attention to him. He was hoping if he could get Luz interested, someone would finally care about creatures like him. Luz realizes just how much her attention means to King, and she asks for his help, calling him the "best teacher in the world." He giggles and hugs her happily, after which the pair discover a magic glyph which enables Luz to make a light spell. This enables them to subdue Eda and get her back to her normal form. Afterward, Eda praises Luz for her magic, and Luz, to King's joy, replies that she had "some encouragement from a great teacher."

Covention[]

King accompanies Luz to a covention, and while they are there, he trips and drops his cupcake. Amity squashes the cupcake, and Luz shouts at her, challenging her to a witch's duel as King asks her to defend his honor. Later, King falls into a spike trap from the duel and Luz assists him, though it rips the free clothes he got from various vendors. She promises to get hiim more before running off. King eventually catches up, protesting that she left him, and she apologizes. He rejects the offer to get him more merch and instead says he has something for Luz. While she initially guesses it is love, he reveals a tote bag, and demands she carry him in it, calling her his "fair chariot." She obliges without complaint and pats him on the head.

Once Upon a Swap[]

Luz tells King a few things about teenagers and how difficult their own lives are, King swaps bodies with Luz while she gets placed in Eda's. King initially feels he'll enjoy being a chaos-causing teenager, but after getting an angry clique after him, he quickly wishes to change back, realizing being a teenager rather than a cute creature is something difficult for him to manage.

Sense and Insensitivity[]

In "Sense and Insensitivity," Luz and King decide to enter a writing competition together. They both create self-insert ocs, but quickly have creative differences, as Luz wants a romantic fairy tale and King wants a story of blood and carnage. When Luz is momentarily called away, King takes over the story, killing off Luz's character and overwriting her ideas. Luz is so angered by this that she leaves him to complete the project on his own.

King shows his manuscript to a strange lizard, who reads it and promises to make him famous. As promised, King quickly becomes a popular writer in the Isles. Luz dismisses him when he asks her to come to one of his author events announcing the sequel to his book, but later relents and shows up, as she is saddened by the bitterness between them. King discovers that without Luz to help him, his writing is awful, and he finds her at the event, begging her for help while insulting her writing ideas. Angered once more, she refuses, but is kidnapped.

King finds her trapped in a shrinking box, and he is thrown in as well. The two have a limited amount of time to write before they are crushed into cubes, as is the fate of the other famous authors who couldn't keep up with demand. Luz insists they work together but King dismisses her writing as too sappy once more. Luz angrily whacks him with the book and yells at him for not being able to compromise. King confides that he feels this is the only way for him to achieve his dream of being respected. He apologizes for letting the fame get to his head, and Luz forgives him, saying he is one of her favorite parts of her dream. The two come up with an escape plan, tricking the lizard into opening a light glyph and blinding him as they get out of the box. The two return home without Eda knowing what happened, but panic at the mention of books and rush to bed.

The First Day[]

In "The First Day," King sneaks into Luz's bag to accompany her to school. She insists he pretend not to know her. Later, when she begs for his help as she is dragged away, he says that he doesn't know her, per her earlier instructions, and she gives him an angry glare.

Really Small Problems[]

King and Luz perform the "Luz and King comedy hour," in which the two make bread puns and laugh at each other's jokes. Shortly after, Luz has to leave for school, and King is very anxious about it, questioning Eda if she's certain Luz will come back. Luz returns only a moment later, as school had been canceled. King cries "you're back!" and immediately climbs onto her head and clings to her, while insisting he didn't miss her at all.

Luz offers to take King to the carnival with her and have a day together, which King excitedly accepts. The two encounter a stall selling friendship bracelets, which Luz says are a symbol of two people being "the best of friends." King is enamored with the concept, comparing it to a safe version of "blood brothers," and proclaims they need the bracelets, though they don't have enough tickets. After Luz talks him down from beating up the carnival vendor, they aim to win the games to get enough tickets.

Luz runs into her friends Willow and Gus, and King reluctantly agrees to let them hang out as well. Luz begins to ignore King, having fun with her friends and leaving him struggling to keep up. Hurt and lonely, King is approached by Tibbles in disguise, who offers him a potion to make Willow and Gus disappear. King decides not to use the potion, but accidentally spills it on them anyway. When Luz returns, King feigns ignorance and runs off to enjoy time with her.

The two win a bunch of games and get enough tickets to buy the bracelets, King saying that it's important to him. King cries that he and Luz now have a bond "as mighty as these trinkets." He rushes to give her one of the bracelets, but Luz discovers Willow and Gus, who have been shrunk, and angrily tries to get the shrinking potion from King. The two accidentally spill it on themselves and the entire group is captured by Tibbles and placed in a box with dangerous magical creatures. While being attacked, King apologizes for his actions and explains that he's scared of Luz eventually returning to the human realm, and is hurt by her spending more time at school. He says "I just want to be around you!" and Luz is shown to be surprised, not having realized just how much she meant to King.

The group escapes, but the friendship bracelets are broken. King offers Willow and Gus a piece so that everyone has a piece of the bracelets. Luz holds King and says she's been missing him too, after which the group decides to go ride on the bumper carcasses.

Agony of a Witch[]

When King sees Eda knitting Luz a cape, he mistakes it for a cake, and when he learns it's not, he decides to bake a cake for her himself. He reflects on how he thought he and Eda would eat Luz when she first arrived, and that now he only thinks of doing this "sometimes." Due to the events of the episode, Eda is captured, and Luz returns home without her. King, oblivious, pops out of the cake he made to surprise Luz, before realizing Eda is gone. He then rushes to hug Luz.

Young Blood, Old Souls[]

Directly after the events of "Agony of a Witch," King gives Luz a briefing on the emperor of the Boiling Isles and what he's done since taking power. The two head out on a mission to rescue Eda. Luz is consumed with rage and angrily smashes a crystal ball, and King worriedly attempts to get her to calm down. He suggests a plan to sneak into the Conformatorium by doing something "diabolical." The two decide to step on the grass in an area where a sign says "do not step on grass," after which they are taken to the Conformatorium. King accompanies Luz as she attacks Lilith for capturing Eda, and follows her through the portal during the fight. Later, the two are split up when Belos throws King into the petrification cage, but reunited when Luz saves the group. After the entire family is together again, King is seen later that night curled up at the foot of Luz's sleeping bag like usual.

Separate Tides[]

King and Luz catch a small demon as part of their new bounty hunting job. King chomps down on the demon, to Luz's frustration, and runs around while she tells him to drop it. While filming a video for her mom, King is seen clinging to Luz's leg proclaiming "I'm never letting you go! You're never returning to the human realm!" When Luz insists he doesn't mean it, he says that he does, before Luz cuts the video off. Later, Luz decides to try a more ambitious job and joins a sailing crew. King accompanies her and the two help out the crew, such as Luz using King's horns to scrape barnacles off the ship. King discovers the ship belongs to the Emperor's Coven, but before he can warn Luz, he gets captured by the Golden Guard. The Golden Guard threatens to harm King unless Luz does as he says, and Luz listens.

Echoes of the Past[]

King tries to get Luz's attention, wanting her to play with him. She is busy practicing a new spell, which enables her to turn invisible. When she does, King panics before she reappears, and begs her to never do it again. He then starts to tell Lilith and Hooty about him being a powerful demon overlord. Lilith and Hooty laugh at him but Luz tells them to stop, and when he's out of earshot, she insists they pretend to believe his story like she does, to keep him happy. King says he can prove he's an overlord and everyone journeys to the tower Eda found him in.

During this, Luz continues to lie to King that she believes his story, and King joyfully banters with her. Eventually, King realizes that Luz doesn't believe him and he gets upset, after which Eda explains that he was never a demon overlord, and she found him as a baby all alone in the tower.

King panics and runs away, and Luz blames herself for lying to him. She desperately searches for him, and finds him on the beach. King laments that he is "nobody" and doesn't know what to do. Luz tells him "You are somebody. And I love that somebody very much" and apologizes for lying to him. She tells him there's a chance there's some truth to his origins in the tower, and reassures him that while he may have been alone before, he has a family now.

King agrees to go with her to try to find his origins, and they explore the tower. They find the place where King hatched and some clues as to who his dad may be, as well as an automaton creature that was guarding him and King now has power over. King asks Luz if she will help him find his dad, as he may still be alive, and Luz says she would do anything for him.

Back at the house, Luz helps reattach a broken piece of King's horn to him with glue. King worriedly asks if it's okay if he keeps his name as "King," as it feels odd given he is not the king of anything. Luz says "You'll always be king of my heart. That's good enough, right?" and after a moment of thought, King smiles and agrees. Luz gives him a kiss goodnight, as well as his toy rabbit Francois. He wants her to kiss Jean-Luc, the automaton which is now immobile, but she hurriedly rushes out of the room.

Eda's Requiem[]

Luz and King are training on Eda's staff for a competition known as the Gland Prix. Winning the competition means getting to make a video that will be broadcast across the Isles, and King aims to use the opportunity to send a message to his dad. King has issues with motion sickness but Luz continues to encourage him, as well as talk him through his nervousness. She hypes him up before the competition, even as he is terrified. The two do well at first, but eventually, King vomits and they crash. While King didn't win the competition, he decides to record a video on social media, during which he also announces he is legally changing his name to "King Clawthorne," making him Eda's official son, as Luz had been discussing and encouraging him with.

Hollow Mind[]

King uses a walkie talkie to communicate with Luz, reminding her to speak through it when she forgets, despite them only being a few feet from each other. He mistakes Luz's code words for Spanish, and replies in Spanish. Luz is pleased that he remembered the Spanish lessons she gave him. After seeing Eda get turned away from a business on account of her being a wild witch, Luz angrily asks why people can't realize Belos is evil. King tells her that people don't want to think they've wasted their lives following the wrong person, and that she needs something big to make them change their minds. Later, when Luz is trapped inside Belos's mind, King has the idea to use a glove soaked with Titan's blood to save her.

Edge of the World[]

Luz starts to cry after recounting the traumatizing events of "Hollow Mind," and King hugs her to comfort her. He receives a letter from people claiming to have information about his dad if he comes to an island, and Luz puts the idea that the two sail to the island together.

They and Hooty head over, and encounter creatures that look like King. King introduces Luz as "human/friend/sister." He is excited to see creatures that look like him and happily hugs Luz, who encourages him to go learn about his supposed culture.

While she is separated from him, she realizes that the people they are with are really only disguised to look like King. They are titan trappers, and King is, in fact, a titan, the lost son of the Boiling Isles who they plan to kill. She rushes to save him, pulling him away just as he is about to be stabbed in sacrifice. King asks why she did this, not wanting to believe he was going to be killed. He then says that he knows Luz is eventually going to go home and leave him, and he is trying to prepare for a world without her in it. Luz reveals he is a titan, to King's shock and dismay. The two manage to escape and King clings to Luz's leg, saying "I want to go home." The two get back on the ship and Luz makes King breakfast, while King sadly looks at the island he now knows is his father.

O Titan, Where Art Thou[]

Luz and King return to the Boiling Isles. King tells Luz he's fine getting home by himself if she wanted to check on her girlfriend Amity, but Luz stays with him. They find the house raided and Lilith and Eda gone. A coded message reveals their whereabouts, and when the family meets back up, Luz checks with King if it's okay she tells them he is a titan. He gives his assent. Luz then helps King build a snowman rabbit, because his rabbit plushie Francois was stolen in the raid. When Eda asks Luz what she wants to do, given the option to do anything, Luz says that she wants to go on a heist to get Francois back for King.

Luz is reunited with King when she is brought to the CATS, a resistance group against the emperor. The two joyfully shout each other's names and hug. When Luz starts to carve her palisman, King asks if she will carve him.

King's Tide[]

King goes with the Hexsquad to save Luz after she is captured by Emperor Belos, but Gus pulls him away from the battle and tells him to stay of harm's way. King is frustrated and tumbles down a set of stairs to discover the Collector, who he releases in order to save the Isles. The Collector starts to reshape the world around them for his game, and the group desperately heads for the portal to the human realm to stay safe. King clings to Luz's shoulder but the Collector angrily tries to grab him back, reminding King he promised to play with them. Luz tries to hold onto King as he is pulled away from her, saying they have to stick together. King tells her they can't stay together this time, but he can keep her safe. He tells her he's so happy he got to have her as a big sister, then uses his vocal abilities to push her through the portal against her will, where she will be safe. Luz screams for King but the portal is destroyed and she has no way to get back.

Thanks to Them[]

While trapped in the human realm, Luz is shown to have made many drawings of King, and even a paper mache recreation of his head. She wears a mask resembling King's face when investigating the old shack. She cries and worries about his and Eda's safety.

For the Future[]

After returning to the Isles, Luz finds King and the Collector, but is unable to make her presence known. She is hurt when the Collector refers to King as his "best friend." Camila asks to confirm if this is the King Luz had always been talking about, and Luz smiles while Camila gushes over him. Luz tries to rush after King as the Collector takes him back to the Archive House, but it's too late.

The Collector asks to hold King's rabbit plushie Francois, but King says he only lets one other person hold him. The Collector bitterly refers to her as "that human."

King hugs Eda and when asked what's wrong, he says he misses Luz. When Eda tries to say that she's with her "real family," King tells her not to say that, insisting she doesn't mean it.

Watching and Dreaming[]

Luz finds King trapped in a nightmare vision via the Collector's magic, and she undoes the magic with a light glyph. King sees her and joyfully shouts her name, jumping on her and hugging her. The entire family hugs each other while crying, before the Collector interrupts them and they are forced to play various games to survive. Luz tries to talk with the Collector, and while Eda starts to dissuade her, King insists that "if anyone can get through to them, it's Luz." Luz looks at him gratefully before heading to do so.

The Collector, having been convinced by Luz's words, tries to befriend Belos, but Belos attempts to kill them. Luz rushes to intervene and King screams "NO!" as Luz gets in the way and is hit instead. King watches as Luz dies and only stares in shock, before entering a larger, enraged form.

In limbo between life and death, Luz meets King's dad, who says he has been able to watch the events going on and has been keeping an eye on his son and "those who have been kind to him." He then shows a short montage of moments Luz and King shared together, before giving Luz his trust to save the Isles, and a message to King. Luz returns, now in a human-titan hybrid form, and King watches with sparkling eyes. The two work together to blast away Belos's corruption, using titan magic and shouting "Weh!" simultaneously before nuzzling heads. King assists Luz by protecting her with his voice magic as she rips Belos from the titan's heart.

When she is returned to normal form, King rushes with Eda to catch her, and the three lie together on the grass, relieved. Luz tells King his dad's message, which was "I loaf you," referencing the bread puns King and Luz make together. King is delighted with this and the family smiles at each other.

There is an epilogue time skip a few years later. King helps to organize a "King-ceañera" for Luz. While the party goes on, he excitedly shows her that, while his dad's glyphs no longer work, his own are developing, and he has a new light glyph Luz can use. He hops into her arms and then tells her there is one last surprise, which the Collector organized for her. The surprise is a beautiful light show. Luz thanks him and Eda for everything and the three put their hands together, united as "weirdos." The final scene shows King on Luz's shoulder as they and the rest of the crowd wave goodbye.

Fanon[]

Luz and King were often seen as siblings even prior to the canonical confirmation in Edge of the World. In Pokémon AU's, Luz is commonly partnered up with a Cubone or Marowak to serve as King's Pokémon counterpart. Because of the similarities between The Owl House and Amphibia, some fans like to view King as Luz's Sprig and that is why both Luz and King are sometimes featured beside Anne and Sprig in crossover works of their two Disney Channel shows. Luz is commonly portrayed with King on her shoulder in fanart.

On AO3, the dynamic has over 400 fanfics.
