Fumikage and Yuga share similar roles as background characters, although those whose roles remain with decent prominence, especially in relation to the character arcs of another alongside themselves. However, the two have not interacted all too commonly in canon due to several contributing factors, some of these being closer relations with other characters, as compared to each other.
In the Joint Battle Arc, where Classes A and B fight in teamed (joint) battles against each other, Fumikage and Yuga are both assigned to fight in the second set, alongside Toru and Momo, and against Itsuka, Shihai, Manga, and Kinoko. It is important to note that the more emotional center of the fight is centered around the rivalry between Momo and Itsuka, however.
Shihai proves to have Fumikage as his target, as his quirk, which centers around darkness, is easy to lead Fumikage’s Dark Shadow into an area in which it loses control. However, this turns out to be a ploy to distract from his true target, the one who has an advantage over Shihai, Yuga. After diverting everyone’s attention, Shihai snatches Yuga away, which Fumikage notices, and uses his new ultimate move, ‘Black Fallen Angel’ to catch up to the two, and rescue Yuga before Shihai could get too far with him. Fumikage continues to use ‘Black Fallen Angel’ (which allows him to be airborne) as he carries Yuga through the air as he uses his own ultimate move, ‘Naval Buffet Laser’ to uncover Shihai from the shadows by taking away his hiding spots. However, this heavily effective strategy comes to an end due to Kinoko’s mushrooms, which prove to be a force to be reckoned with. The fight ends with the loss of Team A, although it isn’t a harsh one.
Like any ‘rare-pair’, TokoYama lacks the popularity of some due to the key factors of a lack of interaction, and stronger, more meaningful relations with others. However, the ship still has the aspect of not only contrasting aesthetics, but personalities as well, which gives for an interesting appearance and dynamic, which many still appreciate between the two.
With Tokoyami having a dark, mysterious appearance, and Aoyama having a bright and glittery personality, fans think they match well together and have an interesting interaction betweeen them
There are currently around 100+ works on AO3.
