Canon[]

Komaru and Toko[]

Komaru and Toko both are in the Demon Hunting Game, which the Warriors of Hope created. They are forced to fight for their lives while being taunted by several enemies who wants to kill them. While in the game, Komaru and Toko become great friends, and often stand up for each other. The two can be seen together on several occasions, like when the two are forced to share a bed for the night or when Komaru is kidnapped by Kotoko, Toko is the one to save her.

Later, near the ending of Ultra Despair Girls, Komaru and Toko meet Monaca, alongside Haiji Towa and Kotoko Utsugi; and on the opposing team, there is Kurokuma, who assists Monaca for a short period of time. It is later revealed that Shirokuma was also helping Monaca, by acting like a savior for the survivors of the Demon Hunting Game. After being defeated, Monaca gives Komaru a controller, which controls the whole city. But, before Komaru can break it, Kotoko stops Komaru, saying that this was Monaca's trap. Komaru is then torn, Kotoko desperatly tries to stop Komaru from breaking the controller; but Monaca insists, trying several ways to make Komaru accidentaly break the controller. Komaru begs Toko for help, but Toko, who is also torn, decides to not give any advice; she then says that, if Komaru makes the wrong decision; she will also take the responsibility of it all.

In the true ending, where Komaru does not break the controller, Haiji rushes towards Komaru and yells at her for not destroying the controller. Komaru is given the choice to break the controller or not, to continue the true ending, the player must choose not to destroy the controller. After that, Haiji tells Komaru to listen to the cries of the people outside, waiting for Komaru to destroy the controller, Monaca laughs; claiming the people outside are a chorus of people singing "Destroy, destroy, destroy.." Haiji calls Komaru the people's hope, making her want to favor the people and destroy the controller. Haiji then attacks Monaca, making her explain the reason why she wants to be Junko Enoshima's successor.

After Komaru refuses to break the controller even after everything Monaca says; Kotoko remembers that Monaca and Kurokuma had a private discussion, Kotoko explains that if the controller is broken, all the people connected to the controller will die, everyone brainwashed by the controller are children. Haiji calls Kotoko's words lies, and Kotoko begs everyone to listen to her. Haiji yells at Komaru that even if the kids die, they deserve it, even after Komaru explains that they were brainwashed, Haiji still believes they deserve it. Toko sides with Komaru, telling Haiji that he's just "blinded by revenge" and doesn't mean what he says. Monaca laughs when Komaru asks for help from her, claiming that neither she or the "people out there" care about the children, she calls the people demons, and she claims that Komaru is to blame for everything; this saddens Komaru deeply.

Before Monaca could do anymore damage to her, Toko steps in and yells at Monaca, she says that Komaru is not to blame. Monaca then shows Komaru her dead parents, everyone else is confused, until they realize that Komaru's mother had written Komaru a message with both her and her brother's name. Monaca comments on how she's jealous she never got the attention and love Komaru and Makoto did. Monaca taunts Komaru again; making her want to break the controller.

Komaru is given the option to break the controller again; and if she chooses not to, a special cutscene appears. This is where Toko rushes towards Komaru; trying to stop her from breaking the controller, she successfuly does, and snaps Komaru out of her despair. She takes the controller, and Monaca shows Toko a key, to where Byakuya —who was kidnapped— resides in. She tells Toko that she can trade the key for the controller. Toko chooses to save the kids, Komaru, and Byakuya. Haiji tackles Toko, and beats on her, before he can take control of the controller, Kotoko jumps on Haiji, choking him, and giving Toko a chance to save the children. Afterwards, a large boom is heard, and in the window everyone can see a large Monokuma, called the Ultimate Hope, or Big Bang Monokuma. Kotoko and Haiji flee, while Monaca gets trapped under a piece of a wall, which Big Bang Monokuma blew in. Toko goes to save Komaru, and together, the two defeat the Big Bang Monokuma.

Komaru, Toko, and Kotoko[]

During a special cutscene, Kotoko's backstory is shown. Before she became evil, Kotoko was an actor for certain types of videos. She was assaulted by various adults, and this is the main reason why she scorns them. Even though Kotoko hates adults, she still has a soft spot for Toko and Komaru. Several times during the ending, Kotoko saves Komaru and Toko from death, or an attack. She mainly saves Toko, who before hand, had saved Kotoko's life, as she was about to be executed.

Kotoko and Jataro[]

It was revealed, that Kotoko and Monaca hated Jataro for unknown reasons. Though there was speculations that it was because they assumed Jataro was ugly, as he wears a mask that covers his face, and he goes around saying he is disgusting and ugly. Kotoko does not like un-cutesy things, alongside that, neither does Monaca, even though it was revealed that Jataro had a beautiful face, and was not ugly at all, Kotoko was not present to see that.

Unlike every other person, Jataro was not given a grave stone when he "died" instead, he was given a few words of remorse and soon forgotten.

The Warriors of Hope[]

The Warriors of Hope are a group of children that swear to create a paradise where children can live in peace. They took over the world, and created robots that would do the dirty work and kill any adult. The group is made up of Jataro, Kotoko, Masaru, Monaca, and Nagisa. Masaru was the fake leader of the group and once he was killed, Nagisa took the role of leader. It was then revealed that Monaca was the true leader of the group.

Fanon[]

Tokomaru Family is a fairly popular ship in the Danganronpa fandom. Many like the idea of traumatized children, getting the love and attention they deserve by someone who fits that role perfectly. Komaru fits that role, at certain times she acts much like a mother, she is warm and kind to everyone she meets. She is even often considerate and forgiving, and when the time is right, she also gets strict. Though, Komasugi —which is the ship for Kotoko and Komaru— is more popular. Before anything else was cleared up, Kotoko was the only survivor of her execution. Many liked Komasugi rather than Tokomaru Family. Barely any of the warriors of hope ships include Toko, as she's quite literally, the opposite of Komaru. She is not loving and kind, and in some situations, can be sadistic. Most of the time, shippers of Tokomaru Family or Komasugi ship Tokomaru, the ship between Toko and Komaru.
