Tokyo Mew Mew is the Friend ship between Ichigo Momomiya, Mint Aizawa, Lettuce Midorikawa, Pudding Fong, Zakuro Fujiwara, Ringo Akai, and Berry Shirayuki in the Tokyo Mew Mew fandom.

Canon

Tokyo Mew Mew (2002)

The members of Tokyo Mew Mew were at a museum known as the Red Data Animal Exhibit when they were infused with the DNA of endangered animals and turned into mew mews to fight a group of aliens who were trying to destroy humanity. Ichigo was the first of the mew mews to be discovered, and was tasked with finding and recruiting the other four. She discovered Mint after dog Miki jumped out of the car and licked Ichigo. Mint gave Ichigo a handkerchief to wipe her face off with, and Ichigo washed the handkerchief and returned it to her mansion. Mint was discovered to be a mew mew, and Ichigo brought her to Cafe Mew Mew to join the cause.

After hearing rumors of ghost stories at a school, Ichigo and Mint went to investigate it as they believed it to be a chimera animal but instead found the third mew mew, Lettuce. Lettuce was scared and attacked them until Ichigo realized that she was lonely and promised to be her friend. Lettuce was then brought to the cafe and joined the team. Ichigo later encountered Pudding while the latter was doing street performances for money. Pudding accidentally discovered Ichigo's cat ears and demanded to learn how to do it. Ichigo was annoyed with her but it was later discovered that Pudding was the fourth mew mew, and she was recruited to the team.

The fifth mew mew was discovered to be Zakuro Fujiwara, a famous model and actress whom Mint idolized. The mew mews auditioned for a part in a movie to try and get closer to her, and saved her at night from an attack against the aliens. Zakuro transformed to help them in the fight but refused to join them, as she preferred to work alone and found them to be annoying. Mint was depressed over this, but Ichigo insisted on continuing the mission to recruit her. Kish eventually trapped Mint, Lettuce, and Pudding in another dimension, and Zakuro was finally convinced by Ichigo to save them. Afterwards, Zakuro agreed to join the team.

The mew mews both regularly fought against the aliens together and worked as waitresses at Cafe Mew Mew together. They were constantly supportive of each other in their endeavors. They supported Ichigo's blooming relationship with Masaya, encouraged Mint to invite her brother Seiji to her dance recital, supported Lettuce in getting her to confess to her crush Norihiro, and empathized with Pudding having responsibility over her siblings. There were also times when they had temporary disagreements, such as when Mint temporarily left the team after an argument with Ichigo and Zakuro being upset when the other mews were spreading gossip about her leaving for an acting role overseas.

The final battle proved to be a great trial for the mew mews, as the aliens' leader Deep Blue manifested in the body of Ichigo's boyfriend Masaya, and she refused to fight him while the other four mews struggled. After Mint slapped Ichigo and gave her a pep talk, she finally agreed to pursue Deep Blue into his lair. She succeeded in defeating him and sacrificed her life to revive Masaya. The other mew mews arrived to find her dead and mourned her loss, with Mint screaming her name, Lettuce crying, and Zakuro comforting Pudding. Ichigo was revived after Masaya kissed her. The five later gathered at Cafe Mew Mew, as they all claimed that their 'feet just brought them there,' and they were informed by Ryō that there was a new enemy and that their mew forms were active again.

Tokyo Mew Mew – Tojo Shin Mew Mew! – Minna Issho ni Gohoshi Suru Nyan

At some unknown point during the series, the mew mews traveled to an island in search of Mew Aqua and met a girl named Ringo Akai. Kish and a new alien known as Gâteau du Roi also invaded the island in a search for the Mew Aqua. When Kish kidnapped Ringo and transformed her pet penguin Yuki into a chimera animal, Ringo used a necklace with Mew Aqua in it to transform into a mew mew, becoming the sixth mew mew. She then joined the other five mew mews in defending the island from the aliens' attack.

Tokyo Mew Mew à la Mode

Ichigo went to study abroad in England with Masaya while the other four mew mews stayed in Tokyo to clean up the remaining chimera animals, and they missed Ichigo while she was gone. A girl named Berry Shirayuki visited the cafe and accidentally stumbled upon the machine that infused her with the DNA of two different animals, turning her into the newest mew mew. Berry was constantly attacked by other chimera animals, so the other mew mews enrolled as students at Berry's school to protect her. Ichigo later returned from England to join them as well. The other mew mews helped Berry stop the Saint Rose Crusaders and were supportive of her new relationship with her boyfriend Tasuku.

Tokyo Mew Mew New

At the start of the series, Mint had already been infused with the DNA of her endangered animal and turned into a mew mew. She helped with the Mew Project to identify the four other mew mews, and gave Ichigo free tickets to their museum. When the other four mew mews were gathered, they were infused with the DNA of endangered species. Mint later helped Ichigo discover her new mew form during her first battle with a chimera animal and brought her to Cafe Mew Mew to introduce her to the mew project.

After Lettuce visited Cafe Mew Mew, Mint saw on screen that she was mew mew, and she and Ichigo also decided to investigate a rumor of a ghost at their school, as they believed that it was a chimera animal. It turned out that the 'ghost' was actually Lettuce, who was enraged over not having any real friends, and she transformed into her mew form. She began to attack Ichigo and Mint out of fear, but Ichigo promised to be friends with Lettuce and calmed her down. Lettuce then joined the mew mews.

Ichigo later encountered Pudding while on a date with Masaya at the zoo. Pudding was performing parlor tricks for tips and was trying to get money out of Ichigo when Kish appeared and kissed Ichigo. He then attacked with chimera animals, and Mint and Lettuce arrived to help. Mint revealed that Pudding was the fourth mew mew, and she transformed for the first time. Pudding was then brought to Cafe Mew Mew and joined as the fourth mew mew.

The fifth mew mew was revealed to be Zakuro Fujiwara, a famous singer whom Mint idolized. The mews auditions for a role in a musical to get near her and the five fought off chimera animals together, but Zakuro refused to join because she was a loner and told Mint that she was annoying. Mint became depressed over this, so the other three mew mews visited her at her mansion to cheer her up. Kish later revealed that he planned to attack Zakuro during her performance, so the mew mews snuck in to warn her. Mint told Zakuro to not worry and let them do the work, but Ichigo did say that she still wished that Zakuro would join. The mew mews were being overpowered, so Zakuro was forced to transform and aid them, and she agreed to join them after that.

The mew mews were supportive of each other while they worked as a team. The mew mews encouraged Ichigo while she was pursuing her crush and eventual boyfriend Masaya. Mint ran away from home at one point because she was upset with her brother Seiji and went to spend the night with Ichigo. Afterwards, the other mews supported Mint in coming up with her own inventions. When Lettuce confessed her feelings to Ryō and was rejected by him, Zakuro praised her for being brave and comforted her. The mew mews were also supportive of Pudding raising her younger siblings while she was also still young. When Zakuro had a new music video recorded, she had the other mew mews play a role in the video.

The alien's leader Deep Blue later manifested in the body of Ichigo's boyfriend Masaya. Ichigo did not want to fight him, and when the other mew mews prepared to do so, Ichigo attacked them and knocked them out. After the mew mews were brought back to Cafe Mew Mew to recover, Ichigo felt guilty for attacking them, and the others were understanding. Ichigo still felt guilty, so Mint slapped her to knock some sense into her, and then they all cried and joined each other in a group hug. After the final battle was over, the mew mews all continued to work at the newly renovated Cafe Mew Mew New despite no longer being required to do so.

Fanon

Tokyo Mew Mew is a popular friendship in the Tokyo Mew Mew fandom, as they are the main protagonists' group of the series. The mew mews are considered "moe," which means something cute that attracts people to the fandom, and they form a stereotypical magical girl super hero team that fans adore. Fans have noted positive interactions between all five of the mew mews, and the anime reboot Tokyo Mew Mew New added more to Ichigo's friendship with Mint as well as Lettuce and Zakuro, who were noted to not have interacted as much in the original series.

Ringo and Berry are sometimes included in the friendship but not always due to the fact that they are two additional mew mews who were added later on. The sixth mew mew, Ringo, was initially exclusive to the video game, but she was designed by the series' creator and later shown at the end of volume 6 of the manga and in two bonus chapters of the sequel series, and is generally well-liked by fans. The seventh mew mew, Berry, is often included but is also disliked by many fans who did not like the sequel series Tokyo Mew Mew à la Mode and despise Berry just for being a part of that series.

There are multiple romantic ships between members of the mew mews. The most common one is ZakuMint because of Mint's crush on Zakuro, and IchiMint also has a following as well. Less common ships between the mew mews include RetaIchi, RetaMint, and IchiZaku. Pudding is not generally shipped romantically with the other mew mews due to being younger than them. Ringo and Berry are also not commonly shipped with other mew mews due to being later additions to the team and also being younger than the other mew mews.
