Prior to the start of the campaign season, Trump coined the nickname "Sleepy Joe" to refer to Joe Biden. In response, Biden referred to Trump as a "clown".[1] Biden was elected the 46th president in November 2020, defeating the incumbent Donald Trump. Trump and numerous other Republicans repeatedly made false claims that widespread electoral fraud had occurred and that only he had legitimately won the election.

In July 21, 2024, after facing calls for his withdrawal from within his own party, Joe Biden decided to drop out of the race with Kamala Harris, the former Vice President, to take his place in the election.
Trump was elected the 47th president in November 2024, defeating his opponent Kamala Harris.

The two have been shipped as a crackship ever since the two first began as rivals in the election back in 2020. Satire fanfics were common to find on Wattpad at the time rather then on AO3. While the content was generally just made to be funny, among the wave of irony there were a small handful of people that genuinely liked the ship. Usually tropes such as "forbidden love", "enemies to lovers" and "old man yaoi acting like high school sweethearts" are present in stories. It even served as a way for some people to cope with the 2024 election.
Throughout the 2020s memes of the two have only become more and more coined. A prominent meme involves making it seem like Trump wrote a romantic letter for Biden in 2021. People have also made videos of the presidents playing video games together with an AI generated or text-to-speech voice for the dialogue.
Biden is often depicted as the stereotypical femboy omega uke, who is paired with bad boy alpha top Trump. However, it's not uncommon to see Trump being depicted as the catboy bottom instead.
It wasn't until 2024 that Triden gained relevancy again along with it's popularity becoming more widespread when the two went up against each again in the 2024 election. Around this year the ship name even started to be used more rather then people addressing it as "trump x biden" or "biden x trump".
There is a satire gacha life series ,"I'm Secretly In Love With My Political Rival" where the ship gets married in the end.[2]
It is the most popular ship for both Trump and Biden, with well over 1000 fics on AO3. The two are even one of the most known political figures in Pop icon Cultural and Meme Cultural.
