The ship has support from it being canon and the fact that the two are the parents of the main protagonist. Even though not much of their relationship was shown in the 2022 Pixar film, learning that Jin stayed with Ming after seeing her giant size has got people to see that he cares for her. Even after Ming ended up becoming a bit like her perfect seeking mother.

Even though Mei's story mostly focused on the relationship she has with her mother and friends, there are those who feel that the father-daughter bond between Jin and Mei deserves notice and attention as well. With Jin being much kinder and understanding than Ming was, along with him developing a liking to the boy band Mei likes.

Meiley is the femslash ship between Meilin Lee and Riley Andersen from the Turning Red and Inside Out fandoms.
Canon[]
Given they're from two different movies, Riley and Mei have never canonically met. However, they are implied to share the same universe, as Riley has a poster of 4*Town in her room, which is a famous boy band in Turning Red. They are also both from Pixar movies.
Both Riley's emotions and a bunch of Turning Red characters, including Mei, appeared in Disney Magic Kingdoms during themed events. However, Riley herself hasn't appeared within the game. With most Disney crossover medias mostly focusing on Riley's emotions rather than on her.
As of Inside Out 2, Mei and Riley are both thirteen year old girls who are big fans of famous bands - 4*Town and Get Up & Glow respectively - that are, however, deemed uncool by people they want to impress, specifically Mei's mother, Ming, and Riley's new friends, the FireHawks. They both enjoy goofing off with their friend groups a lot, who also are big fans of the band they like, but they eventually betray them. However, they both apologize and make up with them by the end of the movie.

The ship's exact origin is currently still unknown. One of the first pieces of content of this ship was a YouTube video posted by a channel called Max's Videos on November 12, 2022 called "PIXAR KIDS: Mei gives Riley a pep talk". However, it's unclear if it's meant to be romantic or platonic. Although the pairing may have existed beforehand, it seems to have reached newfound popularity after the release of Inside Out 2, possibly due to Riley turning the same age as Mei in the movie or the 4*town cameo.
Most of the content regarding the ship lies in fanart, manips or video edits. Most notably, Tumblr user HenryShalun-1 has posted various artworks portraying them as a couple. There are currently no FanFictions for this pairing on Archive Of Our Own.

The idea for this ship came from Miriam and Alberto being Mei and Luca's best friends and people wanting to feature another Turning Red/Luca crossover ship beside MeiLuca. Luberto has sometimes been seen as a slash version of Meiriam, and with a decent among of people shipping Mei with Luca, it only seemed fair to also ship Miriam with Alberto. That is why some MeiLuca fanworks include Alberto and Miriam in them. To help grab people's attention on Mirialberto as well.

Once the DreamWorks film came out people realised that Ruby had much more in common with Mei than with Luca Paguro from Pixar's Luca. Although the two teenage girls having a similar transformation ability had got a few people to draw them together as friends during the lead up to the film's release.
