- [Yuji]'s Kenjaku's kid. Though I don't know with whom. [...] His partner was probably the reincarnation of my other half... Our souls are the same. [...] Yuji Itadori, as a culling game player, was born with a cursed object (my finger) sealed within him. It must've been necessary to ensure his strength as a vessel.
- —Sukuna explaining his link to Yuji in Ligthning's translation of chapter 257.
Unckuna is the family ship between Ryomen Sukuna and Yuji Itadori from the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom.
Canon[]
Yuji is currently a high school student at Tokyo Jujutsu High while Sukuna is known as the King of Curses, a sorcerer from 1,000 years ago who wrecked chaos and destruction prior to the start of Jujutsu Kaisen. They are respectively the main protagonist and one of the main antagonists for the series. They have starkly different values as well as personalities. Yuji is a very altruistic and compassionate boy who values his friendship. As the King of Curses, Sukuna is a very bloodthirsty and cruel person who enjoys the thrill of battle. He doesn't understand and constantly mocks Yuji's desire to save and look after his friends.
After Sukuna died, he turned his own fingers into cursed objects sorcerers weren't able to destroy. Instead, his remains, 20 indestructible fingers which were preserved in grave wax, started growing in power as ages passed.
Fearsome Womb Arc[]
At the beginning of the series, Yuji unwittingly becomes Sukuna's vessel after he swallows one of his cursed fingers in order to exorcise the spirit that was attacking both him and Megumi, without properly understanding what it was in the first place aside from the fact that it was related to occult and how he and his clubmates at the Occult Club were going to unseal it on the very same night. Sukuna takes over Yuji's body and slaughters the spirit while cackling about being reborn. When he is about go on a rampage, Yuji takes control of his body quickly, leaving him confused. Just as Megumi is about to attempt to exorcise Yuji, Gojo enters the scene and tests Yuji out. Yuji manages to gain control of his body quickly after switching with Sukuna, and then gets knocked out by Gojo.
As Yuji learns that the higher-ups of Jujutsu High wanted to execute him but decided to reluctantly hold it off, Gojo explains Sukuna's history to him and also that he needs to eat all of Sukuna's fingers so Sukuna can be finally destroyed. Yuji accepts his inevitable fate and eats the finger Gojo had brought to him, succesfully suppressing Sukuna trying to take over before complaining how gross it tastes.
Yuji, Megumi and Nobara are assigned to go investigate a detention center where a cursed womb has formed. They are warned to look out for the special grade cursed spirit that had eaten one of Sukuna's fingers and if they encounter it, their only options are to either run away or die. The worst ends up happening and despite the order, Yuji attemps to fight the spirit but loses his hand. Feeling desperate, he asks Sukuna for help but the latter refuses to budge. Eventually Sukuna takes over and starts fighting the cursed spirit after Yuji has bought enough time for Megumi and Nobara to escape. Sukuna calls Yuji an annoying brat who has incovenienced himself and attemps to converse with the cursed spirit and convince him to join forces. The spirit however refuses and attemps to kill Sukuna, who accidentally heals Yuji's arm while deflecting the spirit's attacks.
Feeling disgusted about them being classified as the same rank when their powers are so drastically different, Sukuna activates his Domain Expansion to show what "real jujutsu" is and reclaims the finger that was inside the cursed spirit. Sukuna voices out his annoyance telling Yuji to return before realizing he now has complete control over Yuji's body, making him grin wildy.
Sukuna returns to the surface to explain to Megumi that Yuji won't be coming back, as he switched with Sukuna. He then tears Yuji's heart off, holding his vessel's body as hostage, and after eating the finger he had retrieved, proceeds to mercilessly beat Megumi up, nearly killing him. Yuji manages to regain control of his body due to Megumi shouting that he never regretted saving the former, causing Yuji to thank him with a smile while "dying" in front of his friend.
Afterwards, Yuji finds himself trapped in Sukuna's Innate Domain and is completely pissed off, throwing one of the animal skulls decorating Sukuna's throne at him. Sukuna teleports away and blocks all of his attacks, before kicking Yuji down into the murky water and sitting on him as he explains what a Domain exactly is. Sukuna mentions they aren't dead yet, and promises to bring Yuji back to life if he agrees to Sukuna's conditions. While negotiating, Yuji manages to land a punch on Sukuna, and demands the latter just revive him already. Sukuna challenges Yuji to a fight to death and says he'll bring Yuji back to life without conditions if he manages to win. Yuji cockily accepts but is finished off within a second with the swipe of Sukuna's wrist, causing him to wake up in the surgical room. Gojo welcomes him back and then brings him to the basement to train him, and also because they need to hide the fact that Yuji is actually alive, as word spread around that he has died.
Vs. Mahito Arc[]

Sukuna laughs at Yuji's despair
When Yuji sees a Tranfigurated Junpei, he asks Sukuna to switch with him to heal Junpei like he healed his heart. Yuji begs Sukuna to heal Junpei but Sukuna tells him he doesn't want to. Sukuna laughs to himself as he realises Yuji forgot about their Binding Vow. Sukuna tells Yuji that he finds it really funny that Yuji is ready to sacrifice his dignity, his future, everything to him because he knows he needs Sukuna's help. Sukuna keeps insulting Yuji and laughs at his despair. Yuji then realises how horrible Sukuna really is. Sukuna then saves Yuji twice from being Tranfisgurated by Mahito.
Shibuya Incident Arc[]
Sukuna observes Yuji's fight with Choso and is not impressed when Yuji is about to lose against him.

Sukuna tells Yuji to look at the now decimated Shibuya
Nanano, Mimiko and Jogo force feed 11 fingers to Yuji, awakening Sukuna. Jogo tells Sukuna that he is only momentarily free because Yuji can't adapt to so many fingers at once and asks him to strike a deal with Yuji to keep control over his body. Jogo tells him that many of Yuji's friends are in Shibuya so making a deal will be easy. However, Sukuna responds that it is useless as he already has his own plans. Sukuna then proceeds to wreak havok on Shibuya by fighting Jogo and Mahoraga. After unleashing his Domain Expansion on Shibuya, Sukuna relinquishes his control over the body and tells Yuji to take a good look. As memories of what Sukuna has done come rushing to his brain, Yuji cries and pukes in front of the now decimated Shibuya. Yuji has a breakdown and tells himself to "just die already" but quickly composes himself and tells himself that he needs to fight.
Itadori Extermination Arc[]
As Yuji remembers what Sukuna has done in Shibuya, he tells Choso he is worried because Sukuna is planning something involving Megumi. Later, Sukuna observes Yuji's fight with Yuta Okkotsu and seems disapointed when Yuji is about to lose against him but seems satisfied when Yuta heals him.
Perfect Preparation Arc[]
Yuji tells the same thing to Yuta Okkotsu: Sukuna is plotting something for Megumi.
Culling Game Arc[]
Later, Yuji and Yuta try to work around Sukuna's plan for Megumi but are stuck as they can't decide if Yuta should stay with Yuji or not. Yuji discovers that he is already a player in the Culling Game because of Sukuna. Thinking of Sukuna, Yuji tells Megumi they should be on separate teams but Megumi disagrees.
When they meet up with Hana Kurusu and Angel, Angel tells them that her goal is to purge all incarnated players as most of them will destroy their host's consciousness when incarnating into them. Angel says that it is probably impossible to return an incarnated player to what they were before incarnation and that they'll likely die as incarnation is the fusion of flesh and a Cursed Object which makes separating the two difficult. This conversation makes Yuji understand why Sukuna will die if he dies. Angel then says she'll help them if they can help her slaughter one incarnated player: "The Fallen".
Yuji is then transported in Sukuna's Innate Domain and asks him what he wants as looking at his face makes him sick. Sukuna then reveals to Yuji that he is "The Fallen" as he does not want Yuji to tell Angel about his identity. Yuji tells Megumi about what Sukuna told him and wonders why Sukuna went through all this trouble to keep him from talking. Yuji tells himself that Angel must have an ability which can permanently annihilate Sukuna without leaving any room for ressurrection. Yuji wonders if Sukuna still underestimates him and tells himself that he'll gladly die if he has to, taking more than half of Sukuna with him. Nevertheless, Yuji keeps his identity as Sukuna's vessel a secret.
When Tsumiki is revealed to be Yorozu's host, Sukuna uses the Enchain keyword to take control of Yuji's body for one minute. Sukuna makes a cursed object out of Yuji's pinky finger and tears it off. He then laughs as everything is going according plan. He calls Yuji foolish for not including himself in the people who couldn't be hurt by Sukuna in this one minute in which he has control of his body. Sukuna then force feeds the pinky finger to Megumi, incarnating into him and leaving Yuji's body. When Yuji comes back to his senses, he realises that Megumi is now Sukuna's vessel.

Yuji confronts Sukuna
Sukuna reveals that he had been looking for a way to leave Yuji's body all this time. Sukuna then punches Yuji through several buildings and incapacitates Hana. Enraged, Yuji attacks Sukuna, surprising him with his strength. Yuji asks Sukuna why he has to cause suffering, to which Sukuna says that weaklings shouldn't cling to life or want to be happy. Sukuna thinks the helpless have no choice but to swallow the suffering life gives them. Yuji tells him to swallow his suffering and Sukuna uses his slashes against him. As Yuji walks through Sukuna's slashes, Sukuna is surprised by his sturdiness. Yuji punches Sukuna and tells a newly arrived Maki to kill Sukuna as he's not going to die. Sukuna says that Yuji is very dull but Yuji seems determined to take out Sukuna. When Uraume arrives on the scene and freezes Yuji, Sukuna says that Yuji has already served his purpose. Sukuna uses Nue to leave the scene and decides to leave him alive to laugh at his despair. As he leaves, he calls Yuji pathetic.
Yuji tells Rin Amai that him not being Sukuna's vessel doesn't change anything as he and Sukuna were never working together in the first place. He then says that Shoko Ieiri told him that he is like a cursed object which was soaked in Sukuna's cursed energy. Yuji is determined to eat anything as long as he can kill Sukuna.
Shinjuku Showdown Arc[]
In the month before their confrontation, Yuji and the sorcerers train and elaborate a plan to kill Sukuna. Yuji then spectates Gojo's fight against Sukuna before joining the battle.

Chapter 257[]
We learn that Sukuna knew Yuji was Kenjaku's child. Before his fight with Gojo, Sukuna explains that it's likely Kenjaku had a child with a fragment of himself reincarnated, which is why he called him twisted in chapter 214. As Jin was Sukuna's reincarnated twin, their souls are the same. Sukuna then says that Yuji was bred to be a player in the Culling Game and that he was born with one of his fingers sealed inside of him, which was necessary for his survival as a vessel. This information prompts Uraume to ask themselves if Yuji has a latent potential equal to Sukuna.
After Yuji's awakening, he can now use Shrine, Sukuna's cursed technique. It is likely the gash Sukuna had on one of his fingers in chapter 216 was Yuji's doing.
After Yuji uses several Black Flashes against Sukuna, Sukuna asks himself if Yuji is intent on climbing up to his level and is surprised to see him unfazed by his combination of strikes and slashes.

Fanon[]
As the reveal was released, Unckuna quickly raised in popularity especially in the form of memes often showcasing the story's more crazier facts and the fandom's mind of insanity, along with discussion which was expected with the reveal of their family status. One frequent meme of the two's family dynamic being that Sukuna 'hates' his own nephew (usually shown with images of the two and Yuji's other family members in a family photo).
A popular AU of the ship includes the "Regular" Family AU, where Sukuna is still beefing with his nephew, while other works of the AU show Sukuna being more chill with Yuji (usually includes the AU where either Yuji doesn't become a sorcerer or sorcerers don't exist at all) but also often times showing Sukuna being a menace in public along with not bothering to give the impression that he's a good adult figure.
Meanwhile the romantic variant of the ship, SukuIta is one of the most popular ships in the fandom, especially in the Eastern fandom. SukuIta is mainly shipped as a romantic pairing, especially before it was revealed Yuji's father was the reincarnation of Sukuna's twin brother. However, the ship is sometimes shipped as platonic pairing as many fans believed they were twins or brothers before the reveal. Although SukuIta is not as popular as some of its rivals like GoYuu and SukuFushi in the Western fandom, it barely lags behind in terms of fan content. Aside from that, it is mainly rivaled by Yuji and Sukuna's other popular ships such as ItaFushi ItaKuji, SukUme and SukuGo. As Sukuna and Yuji's interactions are generally regarded as hilarious or some of the best moments in the series, many were disappointed as Sukuna started appearing less in the story and as a result, their screen time together was also greatly reduced.
It is also controversial at the same time, as just like in SukuFushi's case, they have the exact same, huge age gap. Some have also claimed (although even many non-shippers see this as a stretch) that the ship doesn't work because Sukuna has called Yuji " boring" multiple times, mainly when the two were fighting or when Yuji wouldn't take Sukuna's bait. The ship's controversial nature is not helped by the reveal of Yuji being the son of Sukuna's reincarnated twin brother.
In AUs, specifically an outdated version of the family variant was of the two being (twin) brothers or them meeting after being reincarnated and forming a relationship. Other supernatural AUs are also quite popular, and even many modern/more "normal" AUs have some sort of supernatural element to them or more recently with Uncle Sukuna being in the family picture. In fanworks, especially AUs, with the romantic variant in mind, their dynamic is usually the same although more toned down (with Sukuna being a huge tease and Yuji acting like a tsundere towards him). Many fics also deal with what fans expected to be the one of the most inevitable situations before the manga's ending, that being what happens after Yuji consumes Sukuna's 20th and final finger (aside from him being executed).
It is currently Yuji's 8th most written ship on AO3 and is Sukuna's 4th most written ship on AO3, meanwhile the romantic variant is Yuji's 3rd most written ship on AO3, while it is Sukuna's 2nd most written ship, the romantic variant of the ship also has 6000+ works on pixiv in total.
