Uncle Mickey is the family ship between Mickey Mouse, Morty Fieldmouse, and Ferdie Fieldmouse from the Mickey Mouse and Friends fandom.
Canon[]
Mickey Mouse made his debut in 1928 in the animated short Steamboat Willy. His nephews, Morty and Ferdie Fieldmouse, were introduced in a 1932 comic story, aptly titled “Mickey’s Nephews. From the beginning, it was established that even the high-spirited Mickey had more than met his match in the persons of his young relatives. This would remain a pattern throughout subsequent decades’ worth of appearances in comics and storybooks.
The two nephews would serve as the inspiration for several groups of young mice that appeared in various shorts. Later, in Mickey’s Christmas Carol, the pair would join their uncle in playing the male members of the Cratchit family. There is obvious tenderness in their relationships, particularly between Mickey as Bob and the nephew who plays Tiny Tim. In particular, Mickey demonstrates obvious grief in the possible future where Tim has passed away.
Morty and Ferdie’s appearances in animation have been sparse. Perhaps the most notable was in The Scariest Story Ever: A Mickey Mouse Halloween Spooktacular, in which Mickey takes the boys trick-or-treating along with Donald Duck’s nephews.
While Mickey has appeared frequently in video games, Morty and Ferdie have rarely accompanied their uncle in this regard. Perhaps the most notable exception is in Disney Speedstorm, where the pair appear as Crew members who can be assigned both to Mickey and to Steamboat Mickey.
Unlike Donald's nephews, who are typically depicted as living with him under his legal guardianship, Mickey's nephews are known to live with their own parents. As such, they only visit Mickey on occasion and don't look upon him as a father figure. The three do share a loving relationship, but Mickey is perhaps more a friend than a mentor or role model for Morty and Ferdie. Indeed, the boys seem to regard Mickey as a playmate, if not a plaything, more than anything else.
Fanon[]
Due to their sparse appearances in animation, Morty and Ferdie rarely appear in fan works and even more rarely alongside their uncle Mickey. Even when they do appear, the relationship between the uncle and his nephews is rarely the focus of such a work. They are instead generally depicted as part of a larger ensemble, with or without the boys' mother and other relatives. However, there are fans interested in seeing Morty and Ferdie, and thus their relationship with Mickey, become more prominent in the Disney community, and a number of fan works reflect this.
