VKs is the friendship between Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay from the Descendants fandom.

Canon

The VKs have all grown up on the Isle together. They are first introduced when they are announced as the four lucky villain kids chosen to attend Auradon Prep. They are instructed by their parents on how best to be evil on the island, including Maleficent's instruction to steal Fairy Godmother's wand. Upon their arrival in Auradon, the group are unsure of their place among the do-gooders. While some elements of Auradon excite them, such as large dorm rooms and the option to play sports, the four of them continue to grapple with the "evil" ways in which they were brought up.

Using Evie's magic mirror, the group head to Auradon's museum to try and steal Fairy Godmother's wand. Mal uses her mother's spellbook and spinning wheel to put the security guard to sleep, and then the group break in. Jay accidentally sets off the security alarms when he tries to steal the wand, but Carlos buys them some time by impersonating the guard on the phone, claiming the alarm was an accident.

The group later learn that the Fairy Godmother will use her wand at Ben's coronation, so they work with Mal to create a love spell for Ben. This will allow Mal close access to the wand during the ceremony, and the chance to steal it. As they wait for the coronation, the VKs become more accustomed to life in Auradon and soon each begin to think they might not want to leave. However, during parent's weekend Mal ends up in a confrontation with Queen Leah and the group are shown as outcasts in this world of princes and princesses.

The VKs stick together. All hurt by the interactions at family weekend, they decide to go through with their plan to steal the wand. When the wand is finally in Fairy Godmother's hands, however, Mal has a change of heart. She decides to be a bigger person, and the other three VKs join her. They all agree to "choose good". Unbeknownst to them, the barrier on the Isle has been broken and Mal's mother escapes. She arrives at the coronation ceremony and demands the wand. She freezes all of the attendees, save for the VKs, and turns herself into a dragon. The VKs use the power of their friendship and the goodness in their hearts to stand up against Maleficent. In the end, their magic turns Maleficent into a creature the size of the love in her heart; a small lizard.

• When Evie and Jay notice that Mal is missing Carlos in The Royal Wedding and wishes that he could be part of her special day, the two decide to give Mal their gift earlier than they originally planned. A gold charm bracelet that has each of their crests on it, Mal taps her finger on the gold charm that is of Carlos's crest. The three friends than hug each other, though their group has lost one of its members the three of them are still close and will keep Carlos's memory close to their hearts.
• Uma's intro in The Rise of Red reveals that Mal, Evie, and Jay are traveling with Ben to unite other kingdoms. Carlos is also brought up, as Uma asks Fairy Godmother to give Wonderland a second chance for him, with it being something that he would have wanted.
  • Uma's office is also shown to have portraits and photos of the VKs.

Fanon

Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos are the four main characters of the Descendants franchise, and children of four classic Disney villains. Fans followed their story through the three live-actions films and even into the novels, which fill in the gaps between the films. Many were initially upset with The Rise of Red because it wouldn't have the four main characters and actors in it. The general consensus was that Disney should have stopped with The Royal Wedding, partially due to Carlos's actor, Cameron Boyce, passing away after the third film was shot.

Fans of the VKs love the deep bond between the four characters. They also find the chemistry between the actors to be believable, and that the group truly come across as best friends. It is one of the most popular pairings in the fandom for a reason, as most works revolve around the VKs to some extent. Even when not explicitly tagged, the friendship between the four is often an important element in fics that focus more on romantic relationships.

On AO3, the VKs are the sixth most popular relationship in the Descendants fandom. The platonic version of this pairing has over 500 works, while the romantic poly version has over 200. Some fans enjoy the platonic friendship, while often simultaneously shipping Malvie and Jaylos.
