- Vaike – “Dash it, Robin, I'll have to give that horse a big, slobbery kiss of gratitude!”
- Robin – “Heh, shouldn't I get one, too? ...Preferably BEFORE the horse!”
Vaibin is the non-binary ship between Robin and Vaike from the Fire Emblem Awakening fandom.
Canon[]
Fire Emblem Awakening[]
Robin is the amnesiac tactician of the Shepherds who serves as the avatar character of Awakening, allowing the player to customize their gender and appearance. Vaike is a longtime member of the Shepherds, a good friend and rival of Chrom's. The two of them can enter a romantic relationship after reaching an S-support in-game. If married, the couple will go on to have a child, Morgan, after the events of the game.
C Support[]
In their C Support, Robin encounters Vaike loitering around a remote spring. Vaike claims that he is looking for flowers, but Robin sees through the lie and reprimands him for trying to spy on women bathing in the water. Their next interaction varies slightly depending on Robin's gender. If Robin is male, Vaike will say that Robin should understand why he is spying. If Robin is female, he will declare that because she isn't a man, she can't sympathize with his need to "see what can be seen." Neither Robin is swayed by his argument, doubling down on their criticism of his peeping. Vaike calls Robin a "goody two-shoes," but decides to leave. Before he can go, Sully's horse appears, angry at Vaike for attempting to spy on its owner. The horse charges Vaike and Robin, forcing them to run away.
B Support[]
In their B Support, Robin catches Vaike attempting to spy on bathing women again. Vaike loudly denies that he is peeping, causing Robin to shush him to avoid waking Sully's horse, who is napping nearby. Vaike asks why Robin would care about waking the horse, since the animal is only aggressive toward him for trying to spy on Sully and the other women. Robin states that since their last encounter, Sully's steed has become aggressive toward them, too. Vaike laughs, calling it ironic, to which Robin bristles, stating that being tarred with the same brush as him should be punishment enough. Robin demands they return to camp, but Vaike notices that the horse is no longer there. Instead, it is standing behind Vaike, ready to charge. The two of them run away again.
A Support[]
In their A Support, Robin encounters Vaike, who appears dejected. Vaike says that he has been reflecting, and he is sorry for the problems he has caused. Robin notes that it is unusual for Vaike to be so introspective, asking what prompted the change of heart. Vaike tells Robin that he was taking a bath in the springs, when the women he previously spied on appeared to point and laugh at him while naked. Sully's horse was with them, appearing to mock him alongside the women. Robin calls it ironic, using Vaike's words from his B Support, and asks if he has learned his lesson. Vaike says that he has—now that he knows what it is like to be the victim, his days of spying are over. Robin appreciates his growth and attempts to cheer him up. Vaike says that Robin is all right after all, and that he considers them a friend. He also asks for help getting revenge on the girls who laughed at him, suggesting that they find a way to prank them by dumping pudding on their heads. Robin is unimpressed by his idea for a prank.
S Support[]
Robin and Vaike's final support opens with Vaike frantically searching for something. Robin appears, starling him. They ask what he is doing, and Vaike admits that he has lost an important item. Robin asks what the item is, but Vaike will not give them a straight answer, saying that it is a "round thing with a hole in the middle." As Robin asks for more details, Sully's horse appears behind them, frightening Vaike. Robin turns to see the animal and prepares to run, but quickly notices that it does not seem to be angry this time. In fact, the horse is nuzzling them. In its mouth is a ring, and Robin pieces together that this must be the item that Vaike has lost. Vaike admits that it is, and that the ring is for Robin. He says that it has been a pleasure getting to spend time with Robin, he has appreciated their witty arguments, and that he's had fun during their chases with the horse. He wants to marry Robin before they get snapped up by someone else. Robin confesses that when they first noticed the ring, their heart jumped to their throat because they had become so fond of Vaike. Vaike is over the moon that Robin has accepted his proposal, and says that he'll need to give the horse a kiss of gratitude. Robin also requests a kiss, but before the horse.
Fanon[]
Despite being canon, Vaibin is a relatively small ship within the Awakening community. Among Vaibin shippers, the het and slash versions of the pairing seem to be equally popular. Vaibin shippers believe that Vaike would make a sweet and supportive partner to Robin, as well as a good parent to Morgan. Vaibin fanfiction often depicts Vaike as a doting and protective husband and father who spoils his family.
