Bruce had met Jerome two months before the night his parents were killed in front of him. Jerome got angry when Thomas and Martha Wayne scolded him for his rude behaviour, along with Bruce telling Jerome that the act of being rude wasn't funny. This got Jerome to challenged Bruce's reply by referring the said boy by name and questioned the degree of privilege that was afforded to Bruce, until Jerome's mother Lila Valeska finds her son talking to the Waynes and drags him away from them. After Alfred criticized Lila's behaviour towards her son, Bruce began to talk about how Jerome seemed creepy.

After Jerome was sent to Arkham Asylum from murdering his own mother, he crosses paths with Bruce after he was freed by Theo Galavan to form a team of brilliant outlaws that would bring Gotham City to it's knees. Bruce hears of the group that Jerome became apart of through the new reports of Maniax. With Barbara's help, Jerome was able to crush the charity event Bruce was attending with Alfred. Knowing that Bruce Wayne was in the room, Jerome uses Alfred as a means to draw Bruce onto the stage with him. Not wanting to loss his surrogate father, Bruce obeys Jerome's demands. Not long after Bruce joins Jerome on the stage, the later threatens to kill Bruce while holding him in a chokehold as he presses an knife against Bruce's throat. Before either of them could see it coming, Jerome ends up being killed by Theo. This got Bruce to believe that this would be the last time he and Jerome ever see one another again. Until the The Cult of Jerome proved him wrong, when Dwight Pollard resurrected Jerome. Because Jerome remembers wanting to kill Bruce Wayne before his death, he wanted to finish the job.

To help him get his hands on Bruce again, Jerome gathered a few of his followers before they make their way to the Wayne Manor. Jerome wanted to intimidate Bruce as he got up close to his face, comments on how much Bruce has grow and how much he wants to kill him. Due to the comment Bruce made of how Jerome should have an audience when he kills him, Jerome takes him to the circus, where he gives Bruce a clown makeup face. When Jerome's face began to slip off, Bruce asks Jerome if it hurt and Jerome replied "Not much". Jerome then begin to staple Bruce's wrist before he cried out for Jerome to stop. He then takes Bruce onto a stage where he tie Bruce's wrists to a pole, so he won't escape the knife filled canon he plans to fire at Bruce. Jim and the GCPD eventually show up and start shooting. Jerome lights the cannon and starts to run away. Bruce then takes the staples out of his wrist and uses them to escape just as the cannon fires. Jerome looks around for Bruce and sees him enter a house of mirrors.

Jerome follows Bruce into the house of mirrors. Jerome continues to look for Bruce with his gun in hand while saying that he and Bruce made a good team. Bruce replies by saying that Jerome killed Alfred and Jerome shoots at one of the mirrors. Bruce runs around while Jerome continues to shoot at the mirrors before Jerome slides his gun across the floor to give Bruce a 'fighting chance.' Jerome calls Bruce his 'little conquistador' and pulls out a knife. Bruce tackles Jerome from behind and pushes him onto the floor. Jerome crawls away from Bruce and kicks him in the face before getting up on his feet again. Jerome mocks Bruce's fighting stance and punches Bruce. Bruce knocks Jerome down onto the floor again and kneels down ontop of Jerome. Bruce continues to punch Jerome while Jerome laughs and says "Let it out" to Bruce. Bruce grabs a shard of a mirror that had shattered and holds it up above Jerome's neck. Bruce looks at himself in the mirror before down at Jerome. Bruce screams at Jerome before he drops the mirror shard and gets off of Jerome.

Bruce walks out of the house of mirrors and finds Alfred. Jim approaches Bruce and Alfred before he sees Jerome walking out of the house of mirrors, with a mirror shard and his face sliding off. Jerome is holding his face into place as he limps over to Bruce. Jim yells out "Behind you!" Jim walks over to Jerome and punches him in the face. Jerome looks up, his face halfway off. Jim looks shocked for a moment before Jerome punches at Jim. Jim easily dodges Jerome's attack and punches him again. Jerome's face slides off and Bruce gives him a suprised look. Jerome falls backwards onto the ground while Bruce and Jim stare at him.

Valeyne is sometimes considered as the rival ship of Wayleska, due to those who have thought that Jerome would have lived to become Joker, but weren't that surprized when Jerome has Jeremiah continue his mission from beyond the grave. Because Jerome was raised in a circus, most fans base their Valeyne fan art in a circus setting. Along with some finding it ironic that Jerome came from the circus that Bruce will meet his first Robin at, years later.

On AO3, the ship has over 235, while FanFiction.Net has 43 with only 6 placed under pairing in the Gotham category.
