IT WAS JUST A FLING. ♡
—Veronica, about Marquis Machina, chapter 43.

Veromakina is the femslash ship between Veronica de Sade and Marquis Machina from The Case Study of Vanitas fandom.

Canon[]

Machina invited Veronica and the de Sade family to her Bal Masqué event because they seemed very close. The theme of the party is a fantasy costume with the favorite masks of the high-ranking nobles and dignitaries.

Vanitas Ch8 Bal Masqué -Veronica, Machina

She stood by Veronica's side, and when the cursed voice rang out, the vampires went crazy. Machina commented, "This is too bad," but stayed with Veronica.

Machina makes her way up the stairs and finds Veronica's half-sister Dominique de Sade tying her up, which wakes her up and she heeds Dominique's plea to help her untie the ropes in the middle of the hall, under the stares of the crowd. Embarrassed, the half-little sister begs Machina to stop her half- big sister. Machina felt at a loss in the situation and remained in a state of confusion. Meanwhile, Venonica seems to dislike Vanitas, a human male, and orders the vampires to kill humans according to the ancient vampire tradition.

Veronica later reveals her relationship with Machina to be "IT WAS JUST A FLING. ♡" in chapter 43 of the manga, where Domi wakes up from a nightmare thinking about what Mikhail said and sees her half- big sister being bitten in the chest and bleeding. Domi panics and thinks someone has hurt her.Veronica makes up an excuse and has fun teasing her half-sister. She says that Machina did it to her, and he yanks off her clothes, knowing her weakness. Veronica fights back at Machina, describing drinking blood as sex. Domi covers her ears and begs her sister to stop talking.

The true face of Machina

The true face of Machina

It is later revealed that Marquis Machina is a woman and a member of the Archiviste family, Noe's relatives, in episode 58. Their role is not very significant. Although Veronica and Machina are secondary lovers in the Vanitas series, they appear to be in love. Machina likes to wear a robot costume all the time, so it is unclear if Veronica ever sees her true face within the main storyline.

Drama CD : Vanitashu no Karute! Onseiban! 『Dokidoki☆Joshikai! Danshikai!』

It seems that Veronica and Makina are in a lesbian relationship and have an SM sexual orientation, and she describes lesbian sex. Domi forbids her from talking and tries to censor these words for fear that she won't be able to talk about it in the media. Although Domi wants to hear the love story, she doesn't want the women's party to have physical relationships as a topic of conversation, because that would ruin the party and go against the concept of wanting to be a cute party where women just talk about normal things.[1]

Fanon[]

Veromakina They are a supporting couple in The Case Study of Vanitas, and they are confirmed to be a lesbian couple in the drama CD. Machina is initially mistaken for a man due to her use of the pronoun "washi (わし)", which means "I", a term used by men to address their elders. However, Japanese pronouns are gender-neutral, causing some confusion in the language. and Machina doesn't reveal her true face because she wears a robot costume all the time, so readers can't guess her true gender and cause fans to misunderstand the content. The reason is that the author, Jun Mochizuki, defines herself as Sapphic, but she tends to sell het ship and unclear lgbtq+ characters in her previous works more. The content is more about friendship and emotional connection. Which is not surprising, causing fans to have both opposition and favor.

People's perception of Vromakina as a het ship has divided into two opinions: those who are shocked but accept it and support their relationship, saying "It's not bad, I think the Vromakina ship is very cute", and those who cannot accept a lesbian relationship and strongly criticize them, which has become "homophobia", causing a lot of conflict. But those who didn't expect Machina to be a lesbian were happy and ship them regardless of the trend.

Although Vromakina had a low hype compared to popular ships like Vanijeanne and Vanoè, after Machina was revealed to be a woman in episode 58, the ship was brought back into the spotlight for a while. Sometimes they are attacked and accidentally get into the vanoè and vanijeanne wars without intending to cause any issues. Most of the time, vromakina likes to draw fanart and post it on Twitter rather than writing A3o fanfiction.

Their fanfic content usually comes in the form of secondary couples.
