VeruMike is the het ship between Veruca Salt and Mike Teavee from the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory fandom.
Canon[]
In the canon story, Veruca and Mike have limited direct interaction. Both are among the group of children who win Golden Tickets and tour Willy Wonka’s magical chocolate factory, only to fall victim to their own flaws. Veruca is portrayed as spoiled, entitled, and attention-seeking, while Mike is sarcastic, dismissive, and obsessed with technology and television. In the 1971 film, Veruca and Mike have minimal direct contact but share group scenes. They push and shove alongside other children during the tour, reflecting general group friction rather than a specific rivalry.
In the 2005 film, Veruca gives both Mike and Violet Beauregarde a stink eye at the factory gates, which cause the two to look at Veruca awkwardly as why she is looking unfriendly at them. Veruca and Mike also have a notable antagonistic moment in a deleted scene, where Veruca demands for an Oompa Loompa from her father that tells her that she shouldn't interrupt Mr. Wonka but Veruca shoots back at him by shouting. Mike is annoyed by her and makes fun of her by mocking her English accent. Veruca then glares at him which makes Mike "startled". He also makes her cry because of this (although no one notices her). Later, Veruca rudely shoves Mike when she was walking in the hallway that leads to the nut room. But when Veruca is attacked by squirrels (which leads to her elimination), Mike can be seen panicking at her demise, implying that she was the only one that Mike ever cared about. In another scene, however, Mike can be seen looking at Veruca flirtatiously. They share no direct positive interactions, and their eliminations occur separately.
In the original novel, Veruca and Mike have no direct interactions. In broadway, he doesn't seem to have much sympathy for her, as he is astounded after Veruca's dismemberment.
Fanon[]
VeruMike is considered a rarepair in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory fandom, it's quite a small but still has a rather dedicated following, particularly inspired by the 2005 film's deleted scene showcasing their sharp exchange. In fanon interpretations, enemies to lovers and opposites attract tropes are central. VeruMike is commonly depicted as a love-hate relationship that evolves into mutual respect or unexpected romance. Some fans imagine the two meeting again as teenagers or young adults, both having matured (or not) from their childhood experiences in the factory.
Romantically, the VeruMike tag on AO3 has only 3 works as of date. But platonically, the platonic tag has over 20 works and counting. It is the third most written platonic ship under the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tag.
