Arcane[]
Act 1[]
Vi and Jinx are sisters. The first time they're shown together, it's after the tragic death of their parents. As Powder (Jinx's childhood name) tightly clings to her sister, Vi protects her and holds her hand. That day the both of them become Vander's adoptive children and start living under his care alongside two other children, Mylo and Claggor. The former constantly bullies Powder, telling her that she always brings the group "bad luck", while Vi constantly supports her and encourages her in all her projects. While Powder feels insecure with Mylo telling her she ruins their plans, and she feels as though she can't help them fight, Powder is extremely intelligent and ingenious, constantly working on new inventions, which Vi also supports. One particular night, when Powder was feeling exceptionally insecure, Vi takes her above a roof to show her how all of the group had their mistakes and bad moments, and that Mylo is completely wrong about her, since she's stronger than she thinks.
However, some more problems arise for the two of them when Vander gets kidnapped by Silco. To protect her sister, Vi makes the hurtful decision of telling her sister to stay safe, and to not go with the whole group to retake Vander. Powder doesn't follow her sister's request, and after having a breakdown alone in her room, she follows the group to the warehouse, carrying one of the little bombs with her. This unfortunately goes disastrously wrong, and ironically, as one of Powder's bombs works for the first time, the explosion ends up killing her adopted father and brothers in the process. As Vi cries out in front of Vander's body, Powder appears, unaware of what happens until she realizes. Due to this complicated situation, the hurt and trauma of the situation leads Vi to hit her little sister while she calls her "a Jinx" (which would lead to such an intense trauma on Powder that she would own this name later on), and running away from her. In this vulnerable state, Silco and his people find a distraught Powder who quickly tackles Silco into a hug. He asks her where her sister is and Powder just replies that she left her. As soon as Vi sees Silco near her little sister she starts running towards her, but an Enforcer, Marcus, sees her and apprehends her, telling her Silco will kill her if she sees her. This way, both of the sisters forcibly go their separate ways.
Act 2[]
While Vi gets locked away in the pits of an Underground prison on a remote island, Powder, who changed her name to Jinx, is now fully working alongside Silco, who is now like a father to her. On Progress Day, Jinx and Silco's subordinates are sent to guard a Shimmer contraband, but the Firelights suddenly appear and during the struggle, Jinx grabs a pink-haired girl from their group and starts distorting herself, seeing her as Vi. As she starts to get flashbacks from her traumatic moments with her sister, she throws the girl to a fire, and starts shooting out of control, realizing later on that she wasn't Vi and she killed an innocent girl.
After Jinx's attack during Jayce's speech for Progress Day, Caitlyn, an Enforcer, starts looking on her own for Jinx, and that's when she goes to the prison where Vi is, and where they meet for the first time. As soon as Vi hears her sister's name, she gets really adamant to go with Caitlyn and the two of them head together to Zaun. Meanwhile, Jinx starts getting painful flashbacks of her past, and her sister Vi, so she goes to the old place where they used to hangout with their adoptive brothers and starts using the punching machine, angrily remembering her sister. At the end, she realizes that she ends up second on the score, under Vi, realizing she's still second to her, like she used to worry in the past.
Jinx ends up hearing her sister is back around town, and looking for her, and she gets extremely enraged with Silco because she lied to her, telling Jinx her sister died. Filled with anger, she goes to the top of a high place in Zaun, with a flare in her hand. The blue flare that Vi had told her when they were little that Jinx should light whenever she was so Vi could find her and come to her. Remembering Vi's words, Jinx lights up the blue flare, and Vi, who was escaping one of Silco's underground Shimmer production places, after attacking it, sees it from afar. As the flare dies out, Jinx throws it in anger, but then she hears Vi calling her "Powder", and as she turns around, she sees her sister after years being apart from each other. And the both of them hug each other tightly. Jinx tells Vi that she herself is now changed, but Vi just tells her that she had to do this to survive, that she understands. As they keep their embrace, Caitlyn comes behind Vi, and as soon as Jinx sees her, she gets extremely defensive, threatening Cairlyn with her gun, with Vi being between the two. At that moment, the Firelights suddenly attack Jinx and she and Vi get back to back, defending themselves. As they fight the Firelights, for a moment, Vi watches in complete shock as her little sister compulsively shoots around to kill the Firelights, realizing her little sister has indeed changed, like she told her earlier. And in that moment, the Firelights throw a smoke bomb, kidnapping Vi and Caitlyn, and flying away, leaving a nervously confused Jinx behind, screaming for her sister's name.

League of Legends[]
In the game, Jinx is constantly trying to annoy Vi and seems to have an ongoing rivalry with her. Also, they share the same background, only with the exception that Jinx's background is on fire and destroyed, while Vi's seems to be the same place before Jinx's chaos.
Fanon[]
Jinx and Vi's relationship is deeply cherished by Arcane fans because it's an essential part of the plot of the series. However, there is some minor divide in between people who think Vi initially left Jinx behind, leaving her traumatized, and people who think Vi had no other option since when she was coming back, she was apprehended by an Enforcer. These latter fans also mention the fact Vi has traumas of her own, and that she would never hurt her sister, as she always took care of her. But fans on the other side of this argument also mention it was Vi who scarred Jinx with the name she "gave" her.
This family ship currently has 2000+ works in AO3, being one of the most popular relationships of the fandom to be explored in fanfiction.

Trivia[]
- The alternative reality Jinx in Arcane can be seen wearing the same necklace Vi wore when she was a younger kid in the epilogue.
