Vitani x Kion is the het ship between Vitani and Kion from The Lion King fandom.

Canon[]

Vitani is the daughter of Zira, former leader of the Outsiders, and was introduced in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. Kion is the son of Simba and was introduced in The Lion Guard. The two characters first met in an episode of The Lion Guard entitled "Lions of the Outlands." After Zira and her followers took over a watering hole belonging to Kion's hyena friend Jasiri and her clan, Jasiri came to Kion for help. Not being aware of the Pride Lands' history with the Outsiders, he was greatly surprised to learn of lions in the Outlands.

When Kion and Vitani are introduced, Vitani is surprised to see a fellow lion in company with a hyena. She is further surprised when Zira proves to be knowledgeable about Kion's Roar of the Elders. Vitani remains behind when Zira and Kion go off to speak in private but eventually becomes impatient. When the rest of Kion's Lion Guard arrives, Vitani is quick to side with the other Outsiders, behaving aggressively. However, she and most of the Outsiders are soon sent flying by the Roar of the Elders.

Much later, after the events of Simba's Pride, Vitani and most of the other Outsiders have reunited with the Pride Lands lions while Kion and the Lion Guard were away on a journey. With her brother Kovu now married to Kion's sister Kiara, Vitani takes it upon herself to form her own Lion Guard to protect the Pride Lands. This group ends up meeting Kion's Lion Guard and their Outlands allies as Kion and the others are returning in response to news of Zira's attack on the Pride Lands. Kion is thus unaware of Vitani's redemption, while Vitani fails to recognize Kion and the others due to lengthy period since their last encounter.

During the ensuing battle between Kion's party and Vitani's guard, Vitani engages Kion personally. Just as Kion is about to unleash the Roar of the Elders on Vitani's Guard, Kiara and Kovu arrive and break up the fight. Kiara explains some of what has happened in Kion's absence, and Vitani finally recognizes Kion and comments on his changed appearance. With the conflict resolved, both Lion Guards make their way into the Pride Lands.

Sometime later, Kion's guard enter the Lair of the Lion Guard only to find Vitani's guard in residence. Vitani explains her belief that she is now rightful leader of the Lion Guard since Kovu, her brother, will one day be king of the Pride Lands. Kion counters with the reminder that his sister Kiara is the future queen, further noting that he is the one with the Roar of the Elders and that his companions bear the Mark of the Guard. The argument between guards is interrupted when an animal comes to the Lion Guard for help, but its continuation at the scene where they've been called to help prevents them from accomplishing anything.

Kion acknowledges that this dispute is preventing either guard from being effective, but Vitani remains adamant that her team should continue to serve as the Lion Guard. Thurston the zebra then makes a surprising suggestion: that the two guards should compete against each other in order to determine which of them is truly best suited to serve as protectors of the Pride Lands. Both teams agree and so begins the Battle of the Lion Guards. After four events, the two groups are tied in score, and the last event comes down to a confrontation between Kion and Vitani to determine which of them is the Pride Lands' fiercest and thus rightful leader of the Lion Guard.

Given the choice of how they will compete, Vitani calls for a Mashindano, or trial by combat. Kion is horrified, and warns Vitani against taking him on, reminding her that he has the Roar of the Elders on his side. Vitani counters that she doesn't need the Roar to act as leader of the Lion Guard. Impressed by her determination, Kion acknowledges her as the Pride Lands' fiercest and her team as the new Lion Guard. He then confers the Mark of the Guard upon her, along with the Roar of the Elders.

Askari, the leader of the first ever Lion Guard, then appears above the Pride Lands to congratulate Kion. He reveals that, by willingly giving up the Roar, Kion has truly mastered it and will retain the use of it. After Kion and his guard resolve to leave the Pride Lands and return to the Tree of Life, Vitani questions Kion about what his newfound mastery means. By way of demonstration, Kion uses the Roar to live Pride Rock itself up out of the ground, before lowering it safely back into place. Vitani, visibly impressed, utters Kion's catchphrase "Hevi kabisa!" (Real world Swahili for "Totally intense!")

Vitani x Kion is not a ship with a great deal of traction in The Lion King fandom. Kion has an abundance of rival ships, the most notable undoubtedly being Ranion. Kion and Vitani's interaction in The Lion Guard was also limited, and the episode in which they had the most interactions actually ended with Kion's marriage to Rani. It could be, of course, that some fans dislike Rani and thus find Vitani a preferable partner for Kion.

On the other side of things, Vitani has virtually no het ships to rival the pairing, the only notable exception being Kopa x Vitani. Indeed, some fans may see Vitani x Kion as the closest they can get to that ship in canon, given that Kopa has apparently been rejected by Walt Disney Animation in favor of Kion.
