Warmona is the het ship between Wario and Mona from the WarioWare fandom.

Canon[]

Mona is Wario’s friend and employee of his company, WarioWare, Inc. In the first game of the WarioWare series, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, Mona is one of the friends Wario calls to make games for him. In the game manual, Mona talks about how cool Wario is, that he inspired her games and that he’s let her go on adventures with him. In Mona’s break scenes for her stage, she is seen wearing Wario’s standard plumber outfit from the Mario franchise. In one of the final cutscenes of the game, Mona calls Wario a "greedy punk" and chases after him when he refuses to pay his employees.

Mona seems to have gotten over her dismay towards Wario in WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$, when her character profile states that she has a crush on him. Wario is implied to return these feelings as shown in the previous game, when his third break scene in the “Anything Goes” stage shows him sleeping and dreaming about Mona, while thinking “So cute…”. In Mona’s diary entry in the instruction manual for Mega Party Game$, she talks about wanting to take Wario to get a banana parfait with her, and wonders if he likes them.

In WarioWare: Touched!, Mona is seen wearing Wario’s outfit once more in her break scenes, though this time in his biker attire.

In WarioWare: Snapped!, Mona is the first to offer to help Wario run his amusement park. She has her own rollercoaster in the park.

In WarioWare Gold, Mona has cutscenes where she tries to find the perfect dress for her party. In the first cutscene, Mona describes her perfect dress as being “extravagant like a parfait, and cute like a plushie, and super cool like Wario”. When the manager of the boutique, Joe, questions her choice of Wario, Mona goes on to gush about him, saying that she loves his fashion sense and his mustache. Later, during the second “Dancing Team” cutscene, Mona states, “We’re still missing something. Oh yeah, Wario!”. In the second-to-last cutscene, when the WarioWare employees catch up to Wario, Mona says, “Uh...you were planning on paying us, right, Wario?”. When Cricket captures Wario and passes on his briefcase to the others, Mona joins everyone else in splitting up the money. When Wario begs the others to stop, Mona along with the others ignores him.

Fanon[]

Though the ship is a bit underground in terms of the Super Mario universe fandom as a whole, this pairing is a bit popular in the WarioWare fandom, most likely because of it being often teased in canon. Fans also see the two meshing together well due to their mutual love of adventure and treasure, as well as how it is suggested in the games that Mona may see past Wario’s generally greedy and arrogant personality.

Most fanart of the ship tends to have Mona taking the initiative due to her crush on Wario being emphasized more in canon, rather than the other way around. However, some have Wario making a move on Mona as well. In fanworks of the pairing, Mona can be portrayed as flirty and outgoing with Wario, or more shy and reserved. Wario on the other hand is mostly portrayed as being cold on the outside while harboring feelings for Mona, fitting the “tsundere” trope. Some even use this trope on both of the characters in works. However, other works tend to have Wario being more bold and flirtatious with Mona. Common themes in fanart may include the two going on dates, being in a relationship or even getting married.

The ship currently has only 9 works on AO3, and around 20 works containing the pairing on FanFiction.net.
