Warriors of Hope is the friendship between Monaca Towa, Nagisa Shingetsu, Kotoko Utsugi, Jataro Kemuri, and Masaru Daimon from the Danganronpa fandom.
Canon[]
All five characters were classmates together at Hope's Peak Elementary. They were brought together by Monaca, who decided that they should bond over their mutually terrible family lives. She encouraged all of them go to the top of the school and jump off. However, she later reveals that this was just a "prank" and she had no intention of dying. Before the Warriors can commit suicide, they are found by Junko Enoshima. Seeing the potential in using the five children to help her create despair, Junko took the children under her wing. She convinced them that all adults were evil, and that they needed to stage an uprising to build their own paradise. Taking her words to heart, the children each murdered their parents.
Now knowing freedom for the first time, they decide to band together and form the "Warriors of Hope". Each child takes on a class: Masaru is the leader and the Hero, Jataro is the Priest, Kotoko is the Fighter, Nagisa is the Sage and Vice-Leader, and Monaca is the Mage (and true leader). They decide to purge the world of all adults so that they can build a paradise "by children, for children". They begin to target the captives of Class 78, creating a game called "Demon Hunting".
Each member of the Warriors of Hope goes up against Toko Fukawa and Komaru Naegi in an attempt to kill them. However, each attempt fails, and each child is presumed dead after the encounter. When news of their death reaches the living Warriors of Hope, they never seem to pay much mind to knowing that their comrade has fallen. This possibly shows that they are only friends through circumstance and dreams of reaching the same goal. Following Masaru's "death", the group attempts to hold a funeral. Monaca ends it prematurely by stating that she's bored. After Jataro's "death", they don't even bother to hold a funeral. Both Monaca and Kotoko say that they hated him.
It is later revealed that Monaca had no intention of creating a children's paradise, and her only goal is to create a successor to Junko Enoshima. This enrages both Nagisa and Kotoko, who had been eager to see the plan through to fruition. Kotoko is further hurt when she discovers that Monaca was faking her disability and never needed her wheelchair. Kotoko turns away from Monaca in the end, and it is shown that she joins back up with the other members of the Warriors of Hope.
It is revealed in Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School that all five students survived the events of Ultra Despair Girls. They are all still in Towa City, with Monaca attempting to live up to Junko's legacy of despair while the others hide out in a hotel and work with Toko and Komaru.
Fanon[]
The Warriors of Hope is a somewhat rare dynamic in the Danganronpa fandom. There are a number of reasons for this, including the fact that the friendship originated in a spin-off game, and the fact that all of the characters involved are children. Fans who do enjoy Ultra Despair Girls and the children characters it introduces often prefer to explore this relationship without the involvement of Monaca.
There are currently over 200 works on AO3 tagged with "Warriors of Hope".
