WaterBreathersSquad is the friendship between Tanjiro Kamado, Giyu Tomioka, Sabito and Makomo from the Demon Slayer fandom.
Canon[]
Tanjiro met Giyu while he was trying to save his sister who was turned into a Demon. Nezuko attacks Tanjiro who defends himself by locking her mouth in the handle of his hatchet. He begs Nezuko to not let the demon take control and resist.
Tanjiro's word puts Nezuko's attempt to devour Tanjiro is stopped and she begins crying. Giyu appears on the scene and attempts to kill Nezuko. Nezuko and Tanjiro both notice Giyu. Tanjiro pushes Nezuko out the way and prevents Giyu from killing her
Giyu questions why did Tanjiro protect her and he responds by saying Nezuko is his sister and he was looking for help. Giyu isn't pleased with Tanjiro's answer and he rushes them both. Tanjiro attempts to protect Nezuko a second time but Giyu has already captured Nezuko and holds her down.
Giyu says that it's his job to kill any demon he sees and that he must kill Nezuko. Tanjiro states that Nezuko is innocent and that she didn't hurt anyone, he doesn't know what happened to her but he knows that Nezuko wasn't the one who killed his family
Giyu tells him that Nezuko was turned because her wounds were exposed to demon blood and that's what made her transform. When Tanjiro claimed that Nezuko would never devour a human Giyu informs him that if he hadn't stepped Nezuko would've already Devoured him.
Tanjiro desperately tries to convince Giyu to spare Nezuko. But however Giyu still isn't convinced and prepares to finish Nezuko. Tanjiro beggingly yells Giyu to not do it and bows while crying and pleads that Giyu doesn't kill his only remaining family left
Giyu finally feels empathy for Tanjiro but yells that all he's doing is making himself vulnerable. Giyu scolds and lectures Tanjiro to get him to stop crying.
Giyu stabs Nezuko which makes Tanjiro take action. He starts by throwing a stone at Giyu who deflects it with his blade. Tanjiro tosses another stone and Giyu dodges. Tanjiro then rushes Giyu head on. Giyu calls him foolish for doing this and strikes him down with the hilt of his sword, knocking him out.
Giyu questions where Tanjiro's hatchet is and looks up and sees the hatchet. Giyu becomes shocked by this and just barely dodges the falling hatchet.
Nezuko manages to break out of Giyu hold and lunges to Tanjiro, Giyu curses himself and believes Nezuko will devour him. But to his shocked Nezuko takes a protective stance in front of him
A battle commences between the two. Giyu believes Nezuko might just be different from the other Demons and knocks Nezuko out instead of killing her. He then straps a bamboo muzzle around Nezuko's mouth
Giyu awaits for Tanjiro to wake up and tells him to head to Mount Sagiri where he will find a man named Sakonji Urokodaki. Afterwards he leaves
Tanjiro begins his journey and eventually finds who Giyu was talking about. Urokodaki then trains Tanjiro very hard for a whole year. After saying he's taught Tanjiro everything he could, he tells him he has one final lesson. He tells Tanjiro if he can the boulder in two, he'll allow him to enter Final Selection.
Tanjiro becomes shocked and wonders if that is even possible. Before he can ask Urokodaki anything he leaves without saying a word
After six months of training Tanjiro is still unable to cut through the boulder. Tanjiro attempts to renew his determination but he suddenly hears someone yell at him
He then looks and sees a boy wearing a mask. Who tells him that a Demon Slayer bears their suffering in silence and tells him if he wants to be one he needs to start acting like one.
The boy challenges Sabito to a duel. Tanjiro responds by saying that he could hurt him because his sword is made of wood. The Boy laughs before saying he appreciates Tanjiro being worried about him.
The boy attacks Tanjiro and a battle breaks out. After a powerful swing, He knocks Tanjiro down. He tells Tanjiro that he hasn't mastered any of his training and that he has only memorized the training.
Tanjiro continues to fight him pushing Tanjiro to his limits. The boy knocks Tanjiro out. A girl appears at the end of the fight. He says that'll he leave the rest to her.
Makomo nods. Nighttime comes and Makomo asks Tanjiro if he's alright. Tanjiro sits up and asks Makomo if he saw what happened. Makomo is confused and Tanjiro says that the way Sabito was fight was abosultely incredible. He says he wants to be like him and asks Makomo if that's possible
Makomo smiles and says of course it is because she'll be there to help him.
When Tanjiro asked for her name. She told him that her name is Makomo and the name of person he fought earlier is Sabito.
Makomo helped Tanjiro by pointing out his bad habits and uneccessary movements. When Tanjiro asked her why they were helping him she didn't say. Makomo told Tanjiro that both her and Sabito love Urokodaki very much. She would tell him that very often. She also explained to him that she and Sabito aren't siblings (biologically). They were both orphans and Urokodaki raised them.
After explaining how Total Concentration Breathing works Tanjiro appears confused by Makomo's explanation and asks her how he can do everything she said in order to master the technique. She simply responds by telling him to train to death
Despite Tanjiro's hard training he is still unable to defeat Sabito. This continued until six months where Tanjiro was finally able to attack Sabito first
Tanjiro managed to cut Sabito's mask in two after defeating him, He was shocked but still smiled at Tanjiro's accomplishment. Makomo commends and requests that Tanjiro continues winning for her. The next one too.
Urokodaki becomes proud of Tanjiro and allows him to enter Final Selection.
While Tanjiro is at Final Selection. Makomo asks Sabito if she thinks Tanjiro can defeat him. Sabito says he is unsure because they were defeat despite how hard they tried
Tanjiro's fated battle against the Hand Demon begins. Makomo worries that Tanjiro will too be defeated. Sabito says he can't say rather Tanjiro will win or lose this battle but he says that there's a fact that is a irrefutable. That Tanjiro cut through the thickest and toughest boulder of all
Though Tanjiro struggled. He managed to defeat the Demon and put an end to its twisted cycle of killing. He then says that Makomo and Sabito and all the other students of Urokodaki that lost their lives to the Demon can finally rest in piece. All of Urokodaki's student including Makomo and Sabito disappears into the mist and their souls are finally allowed the rest.

The friendship between WaterBreathersSquad is fairly popular, considering these four are Urokodaki's most known and most powerful students. Though Sabito and Makomo were killed and aren't as strong as actual Demon Slayers. Several fans believe that two would've became great Demon Slayers had they survived Final Selection. This is shown when people would have artwork of the two with Tanjiro and Giyu, such as this fanart or in this Artwork. In both fanarts Makomo and Sabito are seen in Demon Slayer Uniforms indicating that they survived Final Selection and became Demon Slayers along with Tanjiro and Giyu But due to this being a Friendship there's likely a small amount of stories about the four but the ship is still well known by Demon Slayer fans.

Trivia[]
- Tanjiro Giyu Sabito and Makomo are not only Urokodaki's most known students, but they also are his most recent Students. Makomo being his 12th student Sabito and Giyu being his 13th and 14th, and Tanjiro being his 15th.
- The ship gets its name because all four of these characters are users of Water Breathing. The Breathing Style they learned when Urokodaki trained them.
- Though Sabito and Makomo were both adopted by Urokodaki, they never met when they were alive. Makomo was killed a period before Sabito. So the two couldn't meet until after he was killed.
- Makomo is actually Urokodaki's eldest student out of the four. She would be 22 years old if she were alive in the show curretnly, which is a year older than Giyu and Sabito.
- While there are other Water Breathing users, such as Murata and Aoi Kanzaki, they aren't included in the ship because they didn't learn Water Breathing from Urokodaki.
