Welt & Himeko is the friendship between Welt Yang and Murata Himeko from the Honkai fandom.

Canon[]

Alien Space[]

In 2005, Welt temporarily became a professor in one of Himeko's classes at Caltech. Himeko was a bright and talented student with an interest in aliens. One day, Welt finds her going on a trip to New Mexico to investigate an alien sighting. However, the event was actually an Arahato test site. Any civilian caught there would have their memory wiped by Tesla. Not wanting his student to be subject to Tesla's coma-inducing memory wipes, Welt tries telling Himeko that the photo she saw isn't actually aliens. Himeko doesn't listen and is instead excited that Welt seems to have an interest in aliens as well. So Welt boards the plane with her and changes the coordinates of her photo to the middle of Santa Fe, tricking Himeko into thinking she saw a fake blog post about an alien sighting.

Himeko is disappointed at the wasted trip, to which Welt mentally apologizes for. At Himeko's questioning, Welt denies being interested in aliens. Himeko then asks if not for that, if he came with her because he cares about her. Welt is startled and goes with the former excuse. Himeko laughs, saying she knew he liked aliens and tricked him into admitting it. She gets excited about their shared interest that no one else in the school shares, and invites him to be the supporting faculty member of her club on extraterrestrial civilizations.

Some time later in class, Himeko’s classmate points out that Himeko is staring at Dr. Welt. Himeko, flustered, says that she was just staring at the formulas on the board and that she and Welt only share common interests. The classmate continues teasing her about it anyway. After class, Himeko submits her observation plan of an asteroid to Welt, which he finds impressive. But since he wasn’t actually interested in aliens and is set to leave soon, Welt tries thinking of an excuse to turn her down. Just then, he senses an strong alien force and urges Himeko to get behind him. The one he sensed turns out to be Himeko's father, Murata Ryusuke. Himeko leaves to show her dad around campus, and their close relationship reminds Welt of his own father.

After some incidents involving spy bots from the Sky People, Welt goes to Himeko's apartment to interrogate Ryusuke. However, as he is about to enter, Himeko arrives, surprised to see Welt but invites him for dinner. Welt and Ryusuke struggle with Himeko's very spicy curry and then privately talk outside, where Ryusuke reveals his affiliation with an alien race called the Sugars. Ryusuke briefly takes Welt into the Sugars' home, but when they get back, they find Himeko has been attacked by a spy bot.

Himeko is taken to an AE medical facility. Welt and Ryusuke go to destroy the Sky People's Vanguard Stone that would endanger Himeko. While up there, Ryusuke gets frustrated with humanities "cowardice" in not exploring space and fights with Welt Yang to take his Herrscher of Reason power. The confrontation ends with Welt killing Ryusuke with the Star of Eden's 3rd Power. After Himeko wakes up, Einstein is the one to talk to her, which Welt thanks her for. Himeko received a letter which was addressed to her by her father, but was actually written by Welt. Einstein asks if lying was the best thing to do, and Welt replies that he doesn't want to involve Himeko in this anymore, since she is just a normal college girl. Himeko then decides to become a Schicksal Valkyrie despite her low Honkai resistance, to learn the truth about her father's death.

In 2029, Welt sees on Sky People's control panel that they are targeting the Himeko of that world. He asks Void Archives who she is and why the Sky People are targeting her. Welt wants to save that world, which Void Archives initially thinks is not their obligation, but Welt eventually convinces him.

After the events of Alien Space, Welt and Void Archives somehow arrive to the alternate world, drifting through space. Himeko finds them in the wreckage of a large starship and rescues them. Welt and Void Archives join the Astral Express for some time as thanks, though Void Archives eventually leaves. Himeko informs Welt that she's never heard of where he's from and that he can't return home, leading him to join her on the Astral Express and embark on the Path of the Trailblaze.

As of the Trailblazer's arrival, Himeko and Welt are the eldest and leading members of the Astral Express.

Herta Space Station Arc[]

When the Trailblazer boards the Astral Express for the first time, Welt and Himeko can be seen reuniting and conversing after the battle with the Doomsday Beast. In a subsequent conversation, Welt mentions that he is unsure if he and Himeko together could suppress the Stellaron again.

Jarilo-VI Arc[]

A scene plays where Welt and Himeko converse privately after the other Nameless leave. Welt expresses disappointment at not being able to leave the Express for Jarilo-VI. Himeko comforts him, suggesting that they give the "youngsters" a chance to bond and handle things on their own. The scene fades with Welt and Himeko remaining alone on the train.

Later, another scene shows Welt and Himeko still by themselves on the train. Welt asks if they should go down to the planet to help, but Himeko teases him about being bored and reassures him that they will have plenty of opportunities ahead.

During the quest, playing as the Trailblazer, Himeko calls, saying, "Welt and I have been up on the star rail missing you this whole time!"

At the end of the Belobog quest, Himeko and Welt welcome back the other members together. Welt states that the Conductor says it's time to leave, and he and Himeko agree. Himeko mentions that she and Welt did some research into their next destinations, adding, "Welt and I may have stayed on the Express this whole time, but we've been watching over you the moment you set foot on Jarilo-VI."

If the Trailblazer talks to Himeko on the train, she mentions that Welt is better equipped to answer questions about the Stellaron. If the Trailblazer talks to Welt, he comments that despite Himeko being talkative, even they have run out of topics. He also says that though he insisted on going to Jarilo-VI, Himeko persuaded him to stay on the train, trusting that the "youngsters" could handle themselves, and she was right.

During Serval's quest, the Trailblazer can text Welt about adding Serval as a Nameless. Welt informs them that it would be Himeko's decision but assures them he will put in a good word for her. He also mentions that, based on his experience, Himeko typically has no objections to new Nameless additions.

Xianzhou Luofu Arc[]

At the beginning of the arc, Welt and Himeko discuss their plans regarding the Stellaron Hunters. Welt advises Himeko to stay on the train to guard it while he travels to the Xianzhou with the other Express members. Himeko responds, expressing her happiness that he finally has a chance for action.

Himeko: "This time you'll get the chance to witness Welt in action, haha. I'm glad he's going with you."

While exploring the Luofu, Welt tries a drink that reminds him of the first time he tasted Himeko's coffee, which altered his taste forever.

Welt: "No, no, this reminds me of when I first boarded the Express... and forced myself to drink Himeko's coffee... and how my tastebuds never fully recovered."

At the end of the arc, Himeko messages Welt, asking if they'd be coming back anytime soon. When Welt and Himeko reunite on the train, they have a poetic discussion about the ships of the Xianzhou, comparing them to stars traveling through the universe. They also reflect on how grief is a universal experience. Their conversation is interrupted by the Trailblazer, who can tease them about discussing "poetry" together.

Penacony Arc[]

At the beginning of the Penacony arc, March wakes up the Trailblazer, mentioning that Welt and Himeko have already left for the lobby together. During a confrontation with Aventurine in the lobby, Himeko tells Welt to let her handle the situation. Welt nods and steps back, allowing her to take charge. Later, at the VIP bar, while the others head to their rooms, Welt and Himeko stay behind. Himeko asks Welt if he’d like to share a drink of SoulGlad with her. Welt catches on that she wishes to discuss her suspicions about Penacony, and he tells her he is thinking the same thing. They delve into their mutual hesitations about Penacony, exchanging thoughts and questions. Himeko admits that she only kept Welt in the dark because she assumed he could and wanted to figure out the situation on his own.

As the Trailblaze quest progresses, in the Memory Zone, Himeko asks Welt about the Gallery of Thoughts and its distinct yet familiar nature compared to the Dreamscape. Welt agrees with her observation, showcasing their collaborative dynamic and mutual respect for each other's insights. At one point, Welt asks Himeko how she sees things, emphasizing their partnership.

Before the Express Crew accepts Black Swan's invitation, they have a discussion where Welt asks Himeko how she feels about the entire situation. She shares her thoughts, and he provides his findings, leading them to make a decision together. When Welt decides to leave on his own, Himeko expresses their reliance on him, saying, "We're counting on you, Welt. As for us... Let's get ready to see the Dreamscape's true visage."

Further into the quest, Welt and Himeko discuss their next steps together concerning Aventurine's proposal. They make another joint decision after some deliberation. March expresses her wish to see Welt and Himeko in action together after Welt mentions investigating the Dreamscape on his own. When Welt returns with Acheron, Himeko trusts her based on Welt’s judgment. During the fight against Aventurine, Welt and Himeko stand side by side, ready for the fight apace with the other Nameless and Acheron.

In the Dreamflux Reef, when they split up again, Himeko wishes Welt good luck, and he reciprocates the sentiment. Later, when facing Sunday, Himeko accuses him of harming Welt, asking, "Did you do the same to Welt?"

In Ena's perfect Dream, when looking for Welt and Himeko, it is mentioned that they are busy somewhere together. In Dan Heng's version of the Dream, Welt and Himeko are present, staying with the crew and continuing their journey to Trailblaze together.

During the confrontation with Sunday in battle, Welt protects Himeko from a dangerous blast, placing himself in front of her and putting his hand on her shoulder.

After the chaos, Welt acknowledges Himeko's talent for comforting others, particularly Pom-Pom, stating, "Leave it to Himeko. When it comes to comforting, there's no one better on the Express."

In the "Checking Out" adventure mission, the Trailblazer views Welt and Himeko as the parental figures of the crew, there to teach the rest of them self-control and guide them through their adventures.

Astral Express Family Group Chat[]

In a group chat with the Astral Express Family, Himeko mentions that Welt is an exception to the usual money monitoring, trusting him enough to let him handle their funds independently.

Fanon[]

Welt & Himeko's relationship first grew popular with the release of Alien Space. Some ship it romantically. But most prefer a platonic interpretation, especially because of the age difference (in 2005 Welt was 58 and Himeko a teenager) and the professor-student relationship. Since he was a mentor to Himeko, many also like to interpret Welt as a father figure to her.

Early after the release of A Post Honkai Odyssey, there was a misconception that Welt and Himeko were together. This was because of dialogue about him being married, and Welt's son describing his other guardian to have red hair. However, people were quick to correct others that the dialogue was actually referring to Tesla.

Welt & Himeko's relationship grew more popular after the release of Honkai: Star Rail, where Welt has joined the Astral Express lead by an alternate version of Himeko. Fans of HI3 find this emotional, since Welt is witnessing HSR Himeko live out her dream of exploring space, which her counterpart was never able to. Fans also worry that this Himeko is going to have death flags in the future and hope that Welt can save her in the future after failing to in the past.

Trivia[]

  • In the "Sanguine Nights" event, Himeko has half of a ripped photo of her and Welt. Welt holds the other half in Chapter 1 of Alien Space, as well as on the cover.
    • The background of the photo and Welt's clothing are inconsistent, but "Welt" is written behind Himeko's half, indicating that both halves are meant to be part of the same photo.
    • An early version of the photo exists in Chapter 8 of the Mystery of Stigmata manga, which is no longer canon.
