Willoz is the het ship between Willow Rosenberg and Oz from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom.
Canon[]
Oz first sets sights on Willow at the Bronze, while his band, Dingoes Ate My Baby, are playing at Sunnydale High's "World Culture Day" event. Willow is standing shyly alone and dressed in a very large Inuit parka when Oz spots her in the crowd from the stage. Unable to take his eyes off her, he asks his bandmate who she is but doesn't get an answer.[1] Oz sees Willow again on Halloween when she confidently and more scantily clad, walks across the street in front of his van. He once more asks himself, "Who is that girl?"[2]
Willow and Oz finally meet when they're both privately recruited by a leading software company during the school career fair. Willow sits next to him on the couch, and she makes eye contact with him. Oz offers her a canapé.[3] The next day, Buffy spots Oz checking Willow out and Willow dismisses it as "expressing computer nerd solidarity." However, Oz makes his way over to talk to her and Willow notices he's changed the color of his hair. They discuss their outcomes from the career fair and talk futures. When someone opens fire on Buffy, Oz leaps in front of Willow and takes a bullet for her. Willow, very concerned, stays with him until the paramedics come. Later at school, Willow checks in on Oz, who is now wearing a sling. She wants to thank him, but he insists she doesn't as he gets embarrassed. He changes the subject and jokes, making Willow smile. He tells her she has the sweetest smile he's ever seen, and their conversation easily carries on.[4]
Fanon[]
Willoz, or Woz, was incredibly beloved during the early seasons of Buffy but waned significantly in popularity after Willow came out as lesbian. However, the relationship is overall well regarded by the fandom.
Rivaled by Willow/Xander who have a brief affair during Willow and Oz's relationship and Tillow, her relationship post-Oz. There is some noted homophobia and resentment prevalent in the Willow/Oz fandom concerning fans who are anti-Tillow and perceive the relationship as discrediting her love for Oz.
Others often headcanon Willow as bisexual and are critical of the show portraying her as exclusively attracted to women after Tara, considering it bi erasure. There is precedence for this as the showrunner, Joss Whedon, admitted the world at the time was "not ready" for bisexual representation and would have written her as such if made today.[5][6]
On AO3, Willoz is Oz's most popular ship and Willow's second. There are currently 500+ works.
