Wilwis is the familyship between Lewis Robinson and Wilbur Robinson from the Meet the Robinsons fandom.
Canon[]
For unknown reasons, Lewis ended up being anonymously given to the orphanage as a young child. Though he is very bright, his inventions keep failing to the point where he scares off any potential parents who come to the orphanage to adopt children. Eventually, he gets the idea to build a "memory scanner" that should help him identify his birth mother, using the only memory he still has of her the night of her giving him up. At the science fair, he meets a kid named Wilbur Robinson, who claims to be a "professional agent" from the future and pulls him aside to ask him if he had been approached by a "Bowler Hat Guy" yet. After Lewis confirms that he hadn't, Wilbur lets him be to present his invention to the judges, though gets notably worried when Lewis chooses to use the memory of his birth mother as an example.
However, the invention malfunctions anyway due to being manipulated by a mechanical bowler hat named "DOR15" and Lewis ends up causing mass hysteria at the science fair when the propeller attached to his invention goes off and causes the sprinklers to go. Defeated, Lewis goes "home" to tear his blueprints into pieces, but then he hears that Wilbur had followed him to the orphanage. He discovers that Wilbur lied about the "professional agent" thing, but makes a deal: If he can prove that he really is from the future, he will take him to see his birth mother. He does so by pushing Lewis off the roof, only for something invisible to break Lewis' fall in midair. Wilbur drops the time machine's cloaking device and takes Lewis to the future for what should've been a quick trip, but Lewis is baffled why Wilbur would want him to return to the science fair and wants to go see his mother right away. However, due to Lewis meddling with the time machine, the two of them crash it and render it unusable for the time being. Wilbur is at first horrified at what his parents would do to him when they find out, telling Lewis that there are only two time machines and the Bowler Hat Guy stole the other one. But then he gets the idea of letting Lewis fix it, despite his lack of faith in himself.
Carrying the machine back to the Robinson household, Wilbur stores it in the garage, hoping that none of his family members would look for it and giving Lewis space to fix it. He gives him two days to restore it before his father, the inventor of the time machines returns from his business trip. He promises that only after the machine is fixed will Lewis actually see his mother and tells him to hide his hair, saying his hairstyle would be a dead giveaway that he's from the past. Lewis however is annoyed at Wilbur's insistence that he stay in the garage until Wilbur returns and decides to explore the Robinson household on his own. However, he gets second thoughts almost immediately when he realizes how mad Wilbur will be when he finds him gone, though he is amazed at the Robinsons and their advanced tech. Lewis ends up running right into Wilbur when the latter tries to find him and he is quite horrified when Lewis tells him that he had just met Wilbur's family. Pulling Lewis aside, Wilbur quizzes him about his family and he gets the relations of everyone correct, but has to ask Wilbur what his father looks like for his family tree to makes sense. Thinking for a moment, Wilbur tells him "Tom Selleck", which Lewis accepts without further questions.
They work together on the machine, but Lewis is extremely confused and frustrated at the machinations of it, only for Wilbur to shut him down by repeating his father's motto of "Keep moving forward". As Lewis is ready to give up, Wilbur's mother calls the two boys for dinner, with Franny threatening to come to them causing Wilbur to realize that she will find out about the crash and the theft if he doesn't bring Lewis along. When the robot butler Carl wants to serve everyone PB&J sandwiches with a gun that reminds Lewis of a similar one he designed, the gun is once again jammed and Wilbur tries to boost Lewis' confidence by letting him fix it. When Lewis fails to do so, he expects the family to be mad at him as he covered most of them in PB&J, but they instead celebrate his failure as failure is the thing that motivates people to keep moving forward. Moved by this, Lewis gives a toast to Wilbur's amazing family and wishes that he could have one just like them someday. Wilbur's mother asks her son what Lewis meant by that, to which Wilbur inadvertendly reveals that Lewis is an orphan.
When the family dinner is interrupted by the arrival of a T-Rex, summoned and mind-controlled by the Bowler Hat Guy, the whole family is on high alert as the realize that the T-Rex is targeting Lewis. After Lewis and Wilbur manage to defeat the T-Rex through teamwork, the family rushes to them to make sure that they are alright, but Lewis accidentally refers to Wilbur's mother as "Mom" inspiring her to adopt him. Wilbur has to prevent that and reveals that Lewis is from the past by pulling his hat off, with Wilbur's mother being mad at him for bringing a boy from the past into the future. When Lewis reveals that Wilbur promised him that he will see his birth mother, Wilbur tries to defend himself by telling his mother that he never intended to go through with it. Feeling betrayed when hearing that, Lewis runs away from the Robinsons, right into the clutches of the Bowler Hat Guy.
When the Bowler Hat Guy tells him that he can take him to see his mother, Lewis turns on Wilbur when he tries to get him to come back. However, when Lewis fixes the memory scanner like he promised, the Bowler Hat Guy tells DOR15 to tie him up and reveals to Lewis that he is Wilbur's father. Lewis is in disbelief at Wilbur being his son, but then questions why the Bowler Hat Guy is targeting him, who then reveals that he is Lewis' old roommate Goob, who had grown bitter at Lewis causing his greatest failure and had teamed up with Lewis' own failed prototype, DOR15, to enact his decade-spanning revenge. However, Wilbur and Carl bust Lewis and the memory scanner out, but before they could return home, DOR15 destroys Carl and Goob takes off with the memory scanner. Horrified at what this means, Wilbur starts to disintegrate as the Bowler Hat Guy is selling the memory scanner and DOR15's "Helping Hat" model as his own inventions. Before being erased, Wilbur calls Lewis "Dad" when telling him that he knows he can fix the time machine and restore the timeline back to normal.
Lewis wakes up in a future where DOR15 had taken over the world after betraying Goob, with all the Robinsons being turned into her slaves. Eventually, Lewis manages to get the time machine to work under pressure and returns to the past to prevent Goob from altering it. Erasing DOR15 from existence and taking Goob back to the terrible future DOR15 created, Goob has a change of heart just as the future is restored and Wilbur comes back to existence. Wilbur does not like the idea of adopting Goob at Lewis' existence, but Lewis uses his authority as his father to try and give Goob the good home he deserves. However, they notice that Goob had ran away, only leaving his notebook.
Wilbur's father Cornelius finally makes it back after his business trip and immediately runs to the family to ask them about the time machines. Seeing his past self, he immediately deduces that one of his family members is responsible, with his wife exposing Wilbur trying to sneak away. After seeing the many inventions he will build in the future and getting a pep talk from himself, Lewis feels prepared to return to the past. But when Lewis and Wilbur arrive at their destination, they end up at the day Lewis was given up to the orphanage. Lewis is confused, but Wilbur told him that he promised, turns the time machine invisible and risks his own existence to let Lewis see his mother. However, Lewis hides from her when she turns, instead he's the one who knocks at the door of the orphanage to ensure that his younger self is found. When Wilbur asks him why he did that, Lewis tells him that he already has a family in the future.
Wilbur then drops Lewis and the memory scanner at the science fair, with Lewis quickly taking a turn to prevent Goob's miserable future as payback. Wilbur's existence is ensured when Lewis gets the attention of Dr. Lucille Krunklehorn and her husband Bud Robinson, along with befriending a little girl named Franny who looks a lot like Wilbur.
Fanon[]
Many people dropped romantically shipping Lewis with Wilbur as soon as they actually watched the movie and found out that they are father and son. Many pieces of fanwork still focus on the two of them, given that they are the two main characters. Fans enjoy the bond that the characters created with each other as children, and like to imagine that it will later influence the way that Lewis chooses to raise his son.
There is a significant portion of the fandom that continues to ship the two characters romantically, referring to the pairing as "Timecest". Generally, these fics take place in the year 2007 between Wilbur and the younger Lewis, rather than between Wilbur and the middle-aged Lewis. Sometimes they are simply an unrequited crush by Lewis, on a boy that he doesn't yet know is his own son, but other works portray the feelings as mutual, and lean into the implications and taboo nature of the ship. Timecest is a very divisive ship in the fandom.
On AO3 there are currently over 10 works for the platonic version of this pairing, and over 15 works for the romantic version. It is the fourth and third most popular ship, respectively.
