The Bad Guys[]
After the Bad Guys's latest theft, Governor Diane Foxington presented herself to the press. Mr. Mason "Moe" Wolf seemed impressed by her until Diane told the public the Bad Guys will be soon caught and also said that deep down they were angry, in denial, self-loathing, and with an emotional void which wouldn't be filled with their stolen loot. This made Mr. Wolf so angry that he convinced the other Bad Guys to steal the Golden Dolphin award in the governor's gala to spite her, despite all other criminals who attempted to steal it being arrested, except for one called The Crimson Paw, who was never captured.
At the Gala, as part of the theft, Mr. Wolf approached Diane in disguise, calling himself Mr Poodleton. He kisses Diane's hand and steals her ring without her noticing. He comments about a nearby sculpture, calling it a piece of trash. Diane notices him and they have a conversation about the Bad Guys. Diane said the only thing they were cementing was life in prison, secretly annoying Mr. Wolf. Diane turns to the statue, showing Mr. Wolf that at certain angle, it projected the shadow of a Swan, stating that "even trash can be recycled into something beautiful". She agreed to take a photo with him while teasing him.
Wolf used his photo with Foxington to deceive the retinal scan lock from a computer room and gained access to the Golden Dolphin award. He nearly succeeded to steal it, much to Foxington's dismay and Wolf's satisfaction. However, the latter became distracted by Professor Marmalade's speech about goodness and his tail wagged, drawing attention to himself and his friends and causing them to get exposed and get arrested.
However, while being escorted to the police van, Mr. Wolf convinced Marmalade to give them a second chance stating that nobody did so before, however, Diane was skeptical. She suspected Wolf to be lying and stated that she would not risk the safety of the city for an experiment, but Wolf convinced her by repeating her earlier statement that "Even trash can be recycled into something beautiful." in a seductive tone, which impressed her. She agreed to the experiment while keeping the Golden Dolphin with her to avoid "any unnecessary temptation" and with a flirtatious tone warned to Wolf that not everyone gets second chances and to make the most of it while teasingly calling him Mr. Poodleton.
Sometime later, the Bad Guys failed a heist to save guinea pigs from a lab. Diane was mad at them and threatened to send the Bad Guys to prison again. Wolf tried to convince her to not do so by charming her again, but she wasn't going to buy it. She criticizes him and says that she gave him a second chance to be something more than a criminal, but he's either too proud or afraid to do it. Mr. Wolf got mad at her and stated his frustration that everyone sees him as a bad guy and wouldn't believe him or his friends if they ever changed, and claims Diane wouldn't understand. Diane asks him with a sly smile "Is that so?" and shows her ring which she pickpocketed from him and says "A wolf and a fox are not so different.". Diane says that it doesn't matter if people believe him, and that he should do it for him and his friends. She asks him what's he got to lose, to which Wolf replies his dignity. Diane looked at his sheep costume which he was forced to wear during the heist, and said "Well, that ship has already sailed.". She says he'll see him at the gala, showing that she wasn't going to report them to the chief.
At the Gala, Diane notices Wolf and happily waves at him. He avoids her out of shame for his new attempt to steal the Golden Dolphin She later approaches him and asks him to dance. They dance together to Mr. Piranha' s song and gaze into each other's eyes a couple of times. Wolf gives Diane's ring back to her, symbolizing his change and refusal to steal the Golden Dolphin. During Marmalade's speech about into turning the Bad Guys into the Good Guys, just when Diane was going to give the Bad Guys a full pardon, the lights go out, and the city's heart shaped meteorite is stolen. Everyone immediately blames the Bad Guys and the police attempts to arrest them. Wolf hurriedly gave Diane a piece of paper.
When the Bad Guys are arrested in the police van, Marmalade goes to talk to them. He reveals that he was who stole the meteorite and framed them. Wolf got so angry that he tried to attack Marmalade, and Marmalade cleverly opens the van door to make it seem Wolf was trying to attack him in the eyes of the public. Mr. Wolf and the other Bad Guys were taken away by the police with Wolf watching a shocked Diane from the window. She soon became suspicious of Marmalade after she noticed his sudden change of demeanor. She goes to the location on the map, and realizes he was giving the gang's loot back.
When the Bad Guys were escorted to prison, they were rescued by a masked figure who skillfully defeated and imprisoned the guards. The figure revealed herself to be Diane, aka The Crimson Paw. She helps the gang escape by speedboat.
When they reached land, Wolf holds Diane's hand and tells her they will help her to stop Marmalade. However, the other Bad Guys left him because he didn't carry out their plans during the gala. Diane drives them to her house and comforts him, saying that if his friends are real, they'll realize what Wolf did was right.
The two of them sneak into Marmalade's compound, finding the Golden Dolphin trophy unguarded. Diane points it out as an obvious trap, but Wolf still goes for it, and Diane tries to stop him, but they end up getting shocked by touching it, and they end up going unconscious. After waking up, they found themselves tied upside down by Marmalade, who had discovered Diane's identity as the Crimson Paw due to the fact that the diamond on Diane's ring was the Zumpango Diamond, the diamond that the Crimson Paw stole. He revealed his new alliance with Mr Snake, and tries to kill the two, but they were saved by the other Bad Guys, who decided to go good.
After stopping Marmalade, the Bad Guys were caught by the police, because they believed they stole the meteorite. Diane tried to defend them saying they were actually trying to return the meteorite. Officer Luggins asks her how she could know that, and states she could only know that if she was conspiring with a group of criminals. Diane almost reveals she was the Crimson Paw, which would have destroyed her new life, but Wolf interrupts her to prevent her from doing so. They end up turning themselves in for the crimes they commited
One year later, after being released from prison for good behavior, Diane drives to the prison in her car with the kitty Wolf rescued to pick the Bad Guys up, and they drive off into the sunset.
The Bad Guys 2[]
Diane and Wolf's first interaction in the film is when they practice boxing together. Wolf vents about his agitation and frustration about society not giving him and the other Bad Guys a chance. Diane encourages Wolf to keep trying, explaining that it was hard for her when she transitioned from the life of crime to the good life. In an attempt to tease her, Wolf says, "Oh, I'm sorry. Did you say you were the CRIMSON PAW?!" In order to shut him up, Diane delivers a kick that sends him flying across the room, saying, "Sorry. I didn't quite catch that." Wolf chuckles and attempts to take Diane on, but ends up sustaining a black eye and a concussion. Diane wakes him up by applying an ice pack, apologizing for going too hard. The two begin to flirt and begin to hold hands, before understanding the awkwardness of the situation and decide to just remain "medium friends" due to Diane's position as governor and Wolf's position as an ex-con making a relationship between the two seem scandalous. They are interrupted by Diane secretary, Maureen, who tells Diane she has to attend a fundraiser. Diane leaves, giving Wolf a few last words of encouragement.
Later in the movie, after the Bad Guys escape the Lords of Lucha tournament, Snake and his new girlfriend, Susan, explain how they met. Shark mentions that Wolf is getting "'friend-zoned by the governor". Wolf argues that he is not getting "friend-zoned" by Diane, before realizing he has to call her. They pull over and Wolf uses a pay phone to call Diane, who pretends that Wolf is her Aunt Linda before getting some privacy and expresses her agitation that the Bad Guys got framed. Wolf tells her about the Phantom Bandit stealing a rare magnetic metal known as MacGuffinite, and Diane decides to help them by doing some research on her end. Wolf thanks her, which prompts Diane to bashfully say "What are medium friends for?" The two awkwardly smile before Wolf hangs up. Upon getting kidnapped by the Bad Girls: Kitty Kat, (aka The Phantom Bandit), Pigtail Petrova, and Doom (who used the alias "Susan" to lure and recruit the Bad Guys). They are recruited to help steal the MOON-X rocket, with Kitty revealing footage of Diane as the Crimson Paw to use as blackmail when the Bad Guys decline. Not wanting Diane's secret identity to be exploited, Wolf and the Bad Guys decide to help with the heist, with the first part being to steal the smartwatch that serves as the controller for the rocket from the owner.
The Bad Guys successfully retrieve the smartwatch for the heist, and as promised, Kitty gives them the flash drive with the footage, only to double cross them later after the Bad Guys got her confession of being the Phantom Bandit on a hidden camera. She reveals that they plans to use the MOON-X rocket in order to reach the space station, where they'll use the space station's magnet and the MacGuffinite in order to steal all of the gold in the world. She puts the Bad Guys in golden handcuffs and activates a MacGuffinite magnet, effectively trapping them. She also begins to upload the footage of Diane on the internet, much to Wolf's dismay. Kitty gives the Bad Guys two choices: they can free themselves with a remote that she gives them, but turning off the MacGuffinite magnet will make the video upload, or keep the magnet on. However, the police are on their way, due to Doom giving them a call. As the Bad Girls leave in order to begin their heist, the Bad Guys act quick, attempting to find a way to stop the upload and free themselves. In a last-ditch effort, Wolf attempts to throw the laptop that the video is uploading on in the forge that Kitty was using for the MacGuffinite. However, he fails, and the video is uploaded. Wolf can only watch in despair as Diane's identity is revealed to everyone and the police arrive. Meanwhile, Diane visits Professor Marmalade in order to get answers about the MacGuffinite. He eventually tells her that she was the second person to come asking about MacGuffinite (with the first being Kitty) and that the first person had an "interest" in the Bad Guys. Realizing her friends are in danger, Diane uses her jetpack to return to the mainland and confront the Bad Girls.
Diane fights the Bad Girls before they can board the rocket, but when Kitty reveals that Diane's identity has been revealed, she pulls out her phone and watches as her greatest fear come true. Kitty shoots Diane with a tranquilizer dart in the shoulder while she is distracted, and she and the other Bad Girls board the rocket. Using her last bit of strength, Diane sneaks on-board the rocket and finds a place to hide before falling unconscious. Meanwhile, Misty Luggins, the chief of police who was promoted to police commissioner, decides to trust the Bad Guys and uses a helicopter to help them intercept and board the rocket. The Bad Girls board the space station and set up the magnet, which attracts large amount of gold from across the world, but Diane, who had semi-recovered from the tranquilizer, follows them onboard. The Bad Guys also board the space station and manage to stop the Bad Girls when Wolf steals the smartwatch and maneuvers the rocket into the magnet, which allows the gold to return to Earth. In a fury, Kitty nearly kills Wolf, but Diane saves him by defeating Kitty and knocking her unconscious. Shocked, yet happy about Diane's appearance, Wolf gives her a tight and affectionate hug, which Diane happily returns. Wolf tries to explain that he tried to stop Kitty from posting the video, but Diane grabs him by his jacket and kisses him. Wolf is shocked at first, but returns the gesture, prompting the two to share a lengthy first kiss. When they pull apart, Wolf jokingly asks, "What happened to being medium friends?" Diane replies, with a smirk, "Well, good thing I'm not the governor anymore, huh?" and they share another kiss, although it is interrupted by The Bad Guys, particularly Snake, who says "Gross" and Shark, who says "About time!" As the space station begins to crash, Wolf rallies everyone together in order to get the space station to land safely.
Later, the Bad Girls crash land via an escape pod, prompting Kitty to be arrested and Pigtail and Doom to be sent to community service. Commissioner Luggins fakes the Bad Guys' deaths in order for them to become secret agents. Wolf and Foxington are shown to be sitting next to each other upon hearing the news and also sit next to each other when Wolf receives a new spy car. Foxington tells him. "Are you ready, Agent Wolf?" Wolf grins and responds. "Not bad. Not bad at all." before driving off to do good.

This section is in need of major improvement. Please help improve this article by editing it.
Wolfington is considered to be the most popular ship of The Bad Guys film, while fans of the Moellen wished that Diane could’ve at least kept the Ellen name even if Diane was just loosely based off on Ellen Fox in the movie.
Meanwhile others prefer to ship FluffyVenom instead but it's not uncommon for fans to just ship both.
On AO3, Wolfington is the most written ship for Diane, and the second most written for Mr. Wolf. It is also the second most written ship in the The Bad Guys (2022) tag.
Also, some fans compared the ship with Disney's Zootopia’s WildeHopps, due to similarities between both couples, while others compared the ship with Beastars’ LegoHaru (Legoshi X Haru) which both ships are shipped with male canine wolves.
After their couple became official in the recent movie, fans became hyped over the romance of this two, hoping to see more of then in the next sequel. The kiss is also praised and fuel by WildeHopps shippers from the Zootopia fandom and the kiss between Wolf and Diane shows a sign of hope that if Dreamworks can make Wolfington canon in The Bad Guys 2, There is a possible chance that Disney makes WIldeHopps canon in Zootopia 2.
