Season 3[]
NOBODY IS CLEAN
Clay and Ani meet up with Winston at Monet's to discuss his relationship status with Monty as an ID card with Winston's name but a fake picture was found in Monty's car. Winston discusses to the two about the night he met Monty. Winston and Monty first meet at a party as Monty accompanies Bryce. They make eye contact as Monty enters the house. Monty then later enters a bedroom drunk to use the restroom, and in that same bedroom, Winston happens to be lying down reading. As the two are in the bedroom Winston locks the door to prevent any interruptions between the two and then kisses Monty. To his response, Monty violently grabs the hem of Winston's shirt and aggressively kisses him back. They go to the point of making out where Monty lowers Winston down and receives oral sex from Winston.
However, after the scenario, Winston sees Monty leaving the party and asks him if they would like to hang out sometime. Due to Monty not fully accepting his sexuality and being afraid of being exposed, he instead lashes out at Winston calling him homophobic slurs while beating him. Winston is injured that Bryce offers a settlement in cash so Winston wouldn't call the cops on Monty.
LET THE DEAD BURY THE DEAD
On the night of Bryce Walker's murder, the two meet again, Monty apologizes to Winston for beating him up and explains to him that he was drunk and not in the right state of mind. Winston then invites Monty to stay at his house over the weekend, a scene then cuts showing Monty and Winston having sexual intercourse. Afterward, Monty tells Winston that he isn't gay to which in his reply he says Monty can be whoever he wants to be. Monty is later arrested as he sodomizes Tyler Down, when Monty's father visits he is disgusted with his own son's actions but more than that he did it to a male. Before leaving, Monty's father asks him if he is gay in a rather derogatory manner, Monty comes out and admits he's gay, however, he isn't accepted due to his father's homophobic beliefs. Monty is later murdered in jail by an inmate, this upsets Winston especially with the group framing Bryce's murder on Monty to protect Alex Standall.
Season 4[]
Throughout the season, Winston is shown trying to prove that Monty is innocent of the murder of Bryce, with the help of Monty's younger sister, Estela, and one of Monty's friends, Diego. He then eventually gives up as Alex confesses the truth. During the confession, Winston expresses his devoted love for Monty.
PROM
During prom, Winston is shown seeing a hallucination of Monty in the middle of the dance floor. The two then speak while slow dancing, Winston tells Monty that he loves him and Monty tells Winston that they barely knew each other, as well as that he wouldn't let Winston adore him. Winston continues telling Monty he misses him and in his response, he explains that Winston misses the idea of him instead and explains to him to live with the living. They share a kiss and Monty then leaves.

It's the most popular ship for the two, however, it currently rivals other major slash ships such as Zalex. Although Montgomery is known to be a hated character amongst fans, many believe he didn't deserve to die due to his relationship with Winston. While those who opposed the ship believed it was abusive/unhealthy due to Monty's aggressive behavior and internalized homophobia. Fans like to parallel the prom scene between Winston and an illusion of Monty to Clay's illusion of himself and Hannah kissing in the Winter Formal.
