- Troubles are an inevitable part of life, but it seems like the Chief Justice has had more of them than most.
- —Wriothesley about Neuvillette's troubles, "The Remains of the Past Day: In a New Light"
Wriolette is the slash ship between Neuvillette and Wriothesley from the Genshin Impact fandom.
Canon[]
Neuvillette and Wriothesley first met in court.
Wriothesley had been brought to court for the murder of his foster parents, who ran an orphanage and were found to be involved in child trafficking.
The trial was very short, as Wriothesley immediately confessed to the crime in great detail, apparently ending in no more than an hour. Neuvillette was extremely terse during the session and remained silent for a long time afterwards. Wriothesley was sentenced to serve his time in Meropide. After a long period, during which he grew into a man and made a name for himself, he and Neuvillette met again. This time, they were not judge and defendant, but future colleagues. Neuvillette bestowed upon him the title of 'Duke' of the Fortress of Meropide. The game describes it like Neuvillette 'fought hard for the title and reputation he (Wriothesley) has now'.
When Wriothesley first publicly wore his Cryo Vision, Neuvillette was the first to comment on it. According to Wriothesley, despite his formality and polite smile, Iudex seemed faintly happier than he was about this achievement.
Despite the Fortress of Meropide being declared independent, its services are often used by the Palais Mermonia staff, including Neuvillette himself, so they cooperate quite closely and often, solving business issues and taking care of the capital and its inhabitants. Each of them keeps the scales of justice in harmony in their own way.
They have a mutual respect and trust for each other that does not match the information given in their personality descriptions. For example, Neuvillette is described as constantly busy and not eager to communicate with people, yet he quite clearly singles out Wriothesley and Sigewinne, as confirmed by the developers several times.
While Neuvillette refers to Sigewinne as his 'daughter', treating her with a fatherly sense of guardianship and care, his attitude towards Wriothesley is quite unique. He communicates with him as an equal, tries to joke with him and trusts him unconditionally in many matters, from managing the Fortress to caring for Sigewinne, who lives there, even gives him gifts. Wriothesley is also one of the few people who knows Neuvillette's true identity as Hydro Dragon.
Neuvillette has 100% confidence in duke's sense of justice and is completely unfazed by the fact that he was a murderer in the past. The reason for his enormous trust is still unclear. However, it is clear that Wriothesley's trial has affected Iudex greatly, and he does not like it when people talk (or joke) about it.
It is also worth mentioning that, despite his constant statements about his difficulty interacting with people outside the courtroom — he even spoke about this personally to Furina in the Archon Quest, initially refusing to accompany her to the meeting with Arlecchino — he spends a surprising amount of time with Wriothesley and seems to have no difficulty communicating with him.
Chapter IV: Act III[]
In Act 3 of the Fontaine Archon quest ("To the Stars Shining in the Depths"), Neuvillette describes Wriothesley as "shrewd". He tells Paimon and the Traveler that he is the highest ranking manager of the underwater prison, and suggests that they avoid any confrontation with him.
When the Traveler and Paimon meet Wriothesley, he says he personally welcomes them only because they are acquaintances of Neuvillette. Wriothesley and Neuvillette have "a personal relationship" and "personal dealings", according to Neuvillette, and a relationship of mutual respect and trust. Wriothesley also states during the lunch with him, Sigewinne, Traveler, and Paimon, that Neuvillette is easy to talk to, and Wriothesley can talk about anything freely and effortlessly with him. Wriothesley then says that he is quite willing to go out of his way to accommodate Neuvillette, and that the only reason he was treating Traveler and Paimon to dinner was to show respect to Neuvillette, as they were sent by him.
Chapter IV: Act IV[]
In Act 4, Wriothesley states that nobody ever seems to think he has good intentions, to which Clorinde replies that it would probably work on Neuvillette, implying that Neuvillette would definitely think Wriothesley has good intentions. Later, as Wriothesley and Clorinde stop the primordial water for the time being, Wriothesley tells the Traveler to find Neuvillette. After some time, Neuvillette shows up and tells Wriothesley and Clorinde that he can take it (subduing the primordial sea water) from there. Wriothesley then closes his eyes, looks at the ground, smiles, then looks at Neuvillette and says, "Wow... So, what's your secret, huh? Let me guess... Ahh, who knows, maybe it's just your sense of responsibility." Neuvillette sighs. Wriothesley then turns and walks away smirking. After Neuvillette prevents the crisis and Wriothesley and Clorinde return, they comment that they made a bet between themselves as to the size of Neuvillette's entourage. Neuvillette even chimes into the light-hearted conversation, asking if the prize for the winner would be tea (Wriothesley had won the bet). At the end of the quest, Wriothesley seems disappointed that Neuvillette did not stay to have tea with him.
Diluvies Chapter[]
During Neuvillette's story quest, there is a file on his desk the player can read, which is titled "About Wriothesley". According to the file, Wriothesley was sent to trial for his crime and was tried by Neuvillette who, after Wriothesley's quick confession, remained silent for a long period of time.
In Neuvillette's story quest, Neuvillette confronts Domenico about the situation with the melusines. Trying to get a confession out of him, Domenico asked Neuvillettte if he is accusing and framing him for this crime even though they know it was him. Neuvillette appears very impatient and frustrated, Wriothesley quickly notices this and fills in, talking for him so Neuvillette does not lose his temper. Afterwards, Neuvillette is having doubts and is visibly upset. Wriothesley sees this and walks up to him from his office desk and gives him praise, compliments, and reassurance. Saying Neuvillette transformed Fontaine and is the reason Fontaine is the way it is now, that he has always made the right judgements, how he is not the outsider like he was centuries prior, and how the people of Fontaine now view both the melusines and Neuvillette in an incredibly positive light.
Considering how Wriothesley likes the melusines and cares and protects them, especially Sigewinne, immensely (which can be gathered from both Wriothesley and Neuvillette's voicelines), this is reflective of how he feels for Neuvillette, and how he has done his job excellently with impartiality as Chief Justice for all these years. Wriothesely also cleared up and reassured him that Vautrin perhaps never hated Neuvillette but put up an act to make him look better as Chief Justice. Neuvillette was very touched by Wriothesley's words and he states it should be Wriothesley and Fontaine's people that deserve his respect and expressed his gratitude to him. Wriothesley then went on to say Neuvillette was being modest. As Neuvillette said he was gonna leave, Wriothesley then said, "And so soon too? Why not stay for a cup of tea?" As the Traveler and Neuvillette left, Wriothesley said, "Please, take care." At the end, while Neuvillette was walking and thinking about Fontaine's history, Wriothesley and Sigewinne are included in the scenes of his past shown, implying they are an important part of his history, too.
4.4 Lantern Rite[]
After finishing the main story, players may participate in a world quest involving some of Fontaine's cast during the Lantern Rite event. On their journey into Qiaoying Village, Navia recounts running into Neuvillette. As if he wasn't going with the group, Neuvillette was already headed back. Navia speculates that after reading an article Charlotte wrote on the Liyue tea business, Neuvillette would have been motivated to go to Liyue and purchase some tea. This suggests that, in spite of his hectic schedule, Neuvillette took a little vacation, either for personal interest or to pursue hobbies such as traveling to new places and seeing diverse cultures.
When Paimon sees Neuvillette, she asks him why he is in Qiaoying Village. Neuvillette says that when he gets off work early, he usually looks for peaceful spots like these. When Paimon asks why he doesn't finish work earlier, Neuvillette says that although his workload fluctuates, he generally has plenty of time. The conversation with Paimon and Traveler explained further details about Neuvillette's intentions. Neuvillette reveals that his trip to Qiaoying Village was inspired by articles on Liyue's holiday traditions. He reflects on the experience, expressing a newfound appreciation for spontaneity and human customs. Neuvillette's interest in ceramics and the ladle he crafted show his willingness to explore new experiences and creativity.
Neuvillette goes on further to say that bringing gifts for Wriothesley was one of the reasons he was in Qiaoying Village. He had gifted Wriothesley an excessive amount of tea. He even got himself scammed into buying even more tea than intended because of a marketing trap - a "buy 10 boxes, get half off" offer that turned out to be deceptive. Wriothesley understood the gesture, giving Neuvillette words of affirmation and jokingly suggesting he'll go through the stash of tea as fast as he can.
Neuvillette also presents Wriothesley with a handmade legal codex because of a joke made between Clorinde and Wriothesley from the 4.1 Archon quest, intending to join in the banter. This legal codex, crafted by Neuvillette himself, adds another layer of humor to the gesture. Wriothesley expresses appreciation for Neuvillette's wit and humor centering around the law. Wriothesley appreciates the gift, complimenting it and said he would make sure it was displayed front and center in the Fortress's showroom which made Neuvillette flustered as there is no such need to for such grand gesture. Wriothesley then clarified they don't have a showroom in the fortress but suggested that he'll put the gift next to mechanical parts Sigewinne has collected which made Neuvillette happily agree with.
Nereides Chapter[]
In Sigewinne`s story quest, Wriothesley and Neuvillette show up at the end to support her, and Paimon remarks that it's great that they both care about her as a junior colleague, to which Wriothesley points out that she's definitely not "junior" to him, as she lived in Meropide long before he did. He also playfully teases Neuvillette for the way the Iudex shows concern for others, as well as for finally getting out of his office to support Sigewinne. Neuvillette seems to realize he's being teased, but responds with a calm smile.
At the very end of the quest, they are left standing by the lake, and you can listen their optional final dialogue, in which Wriothesley again teases Neuvillette in a friendly manner about "parenthood" and guardianship over Sigewinne, to which Neuvillette agrees with his words and notes that he also often forgets his true age when communicating with Wriothesley. Their dialogue ends with Neuvillette's unfortunate joke, which Wriothesley takes with playful enthusiasm.
5.6 Whirling Waltz[]
They first appear at the end of the first chapter of the event in Neuvillette's office, when the player comes to the Palais Mermonia to find out which window Cacucu flew in.
Together, they try to figure out where Cacucu came from and what he was saying, but to no avail. After the player and Kinich come to the office and explain the situation, Wriothesley says that if the player needs to talk to the Iudex, he [Wriothesley] is already leaving. However, Neuvillette stops him and asks him to stay, because the situation may concern his duties as well. Kinich says that he had previously seen Neuvillette's photo in a newspaper, but he had never seen Wriothesley. Neuvillette introduces him to the natlanian with noticeable enthusiasm, and also assures that Kinich can safely share any information regarding the case with him. Wriothesley is cautious, saying that it might not be too safe to talk about the current situation in front of the saurian, which makes Cacucu visibly upset, but Neuvillette, who are clearly interested in him, assures Wriothesley that Cacucu promises to keep everything a secret.
A little later, Neuvillette says that they need to start by interrogating the suspects, and Wriothesley replies that he will make a request for interrogation and Neuvillette has nothing to worry about, to which Neuvillette thanks him. After this, Neuvillette reminds Cacucu that he needs to sign a confidentiality agreement, and it will take some time to draw up this agreement. Wriothesley tells Cacucu that he will have to stay with them for a while.
Wriothesley says ironically that he did not expect a saurian to appear in Fontaine, although he remembers Neuvillette saying that natlanians would soon be seen in many regions and cities. Neuvillette replies that dragons are curious by nature, no matter where they come from, and adds that the same can be said for humans, noting that Wriothesley stayed precisely because he is also interested in Natlan and Cacucu himself. Wriothesley agrees with a smirk, noting that Neuvillette is very perceptive, and expresses a desire to communicate with Cacucu along with "the best translator in the world".
After some time, Wriothesley puts forward a theory that the person who brought the contraband artifact to a certain location simply did not expect a large number of tourists, as well as the presence of representatives of Spina di Rosula, so the deal fell through. Neuvillette agrees with his theory and asks how it can be confirmed, to which Wriothesley replies that the Palais Mermonia workers should "roll up their sleeves" and write a statement about the property they found, so everything would look routine. Neuvillette, who did not immediately understand the metaphor, says he will write the statement himself, to which Wriothesley teases that he probably just does not want his subordinates to be overworked. Wriothesley then offers Kinich to stay at the Palais Mermonia, as they serve especially delicious tea, but the young man refuses. Neuvillette and Wriothesley release Cacucu, and he leaves along with Kinich.
After that, Wriothesley says this whole situation reminds him that he would like to get a pet, to which Neuvillette points out that if doing so in the Fortress of Meropide is problematic, then he should perhaps consider buying property in Fontaine. Wriothesley approves of this idea, saying he had previously hesitated to buy a house on the surface because of the prophecy of the flood, considering it unprofitable. Neuvillette suggests that he re-read the documents he gave him after being granted the title of Duke, and informs him that all titled citizens of Fontaine have certain privileges when buying property, to which Wriothesley reacts with pleasant surprise. Neuvillette then suggests that he sit and read those documents "from beginning to end" while he himself writes a statement.
Later, Wriothesley asks Neuvillette what parameter is used to define whether a kidnapped object is kidnapped, and whether animals or non-human creatures are included in this category. Neuvillette is surprised that Wriothesley does not know this, to which the other man laughs, saying that if he had known all the laws well, he would not have ended up in Meropide. In response, Iudex puts his hands on his hips, clearly displeased by this bad irony, and says there is no reason to laugh.
Before starting the main mission to capture the criminal, the player meets Neuvillette and Wriothesley along with Kinich on the bridge. Iudex expresses concern about possible complications of the upcoming mission, and says that he and Wriothesley have enlisted the help of many parties, and if something goes wrong, they will come to rescue. Neuvillette also notes that among the assistants will be representatives of Spina di Rosula, and Wriothesley expresses concerns about Escoffier. He also supports the player's joking remark about her. Neuvillette coughs with a slight smile, indicating that now is not the time for jokes, and Wriothesley immediately returns to the current topic of conversation.
After the main quest is completed, the player can talk to Neuvillette, Wriothesley and Chevreuse standing outside the Palais Mermonia. Chevreuse says she will keep them updated on the situation regarding the captured criminal and his other possible criminal connections, after which Wriothesley says that his mission is over and he can return to the Fortress. However, Neuvillette asks him to stay again, as it is likely that the warden will be needed in court as a key witness. Wriothesley is not happy about having to show himself in public, so he jokes around in Cacucu style, calling Neuvillette "bro", after which he apologizes and asks that his participation will remain anonymous, which puzzles Chevreuse.
Quotes[]
Character Voicelines[]
- “Wriothesley is a trustworthy man. I fought hard for the title and reputation he now has. I expect you to think that I've simply been duped by his flattery and appearance of loyalty... But to that, I would quote the Inazuman proverb: "The words unspoken are the flower." Which means, some things are best left unsaid.”
- — Neuvillette's voiceline about Wriothesley
Quest Dialogue[]
- “I mentioned that I have had personal dealings with the administrator of the Fortress, Wriothesley... He's a very... shrewd fellow. He is the highest ranking manager of the underwater prison. Even though you are going there to investigate at my behest, it would behoove you to avoid any confrontation with him or any of his subordinates. The Duke rarely ever leaves the Fortress of Meropide, but that does not mean he is not privy to all that's happening inside and outside the fortress. He is "quiet," but not "unaware," so please bear that in mind.”

Dilluvies Chapter, Act I: The Remains of the Past Day (Neuvillette`s Story Quest)
Neuvillette: There's no need to worry. Clorinde is protecting [Kiara] as we speak.
Sigewinne: Oh, that's great. But if the criminal's still... Is there anything you can do about this?
Wriothesley: Ah, Head Nurse, do you require me to personally deal with the criminal?
Neuvillette: [sternly] Wriothesley.
Wriothesley: Okay, I get it. I'll bring Domenico to you — that's your only demand, correct?
Neuvillette: Think of it as more of a humble request. I am here on my own accord, not to formally transfer a criminal for trial. I urge you to set aside any concerns. Thanks for the trouble. Consider me in your debt.
Paimon: Whoa... If Paimon were you, Your Grace, Paimon would take this chance to ask for something really important!
Wriothesley: Well, were I still a criminal, I'd probably ask for a lighter sentence — but I'm sure Monsieur Neuvillette would reject that. But enough jokes. I'll look for Domenico and bring him to you.

Vibrant Harriers Aloft in Spring Breeze: Hustle and Bustle (Lantern Rite)
Wriothesley : I have to hand it to Clorinde.
Wriothesley : Just a simple gift delivery, and she has the great and mighty Iudex at her beck and call.
Neuvillette : I was just passing through. It was merely an act of convenience.
Wriothesley : Alright. Then I hereby confirm receipt of the goods on behalf of the staff of the Fortress of Meropide.
Neuvillette : A verbal receipt of confirmation? Is such a formality really necessary for a small matter such as this...
Wriothesley : Guess not.
Wriothesley : This quantity of tea, though... Seems a little excessive for a gift, don't you think? Before you know it, they'll start accusing me of taking bribes.
Neuvillette : Ah, about that...
Neuvillette : Much of that is my own excess, I'm afraid.
Wriothesley : Oh? Why, what happened?
Neuvillette : It was buy ten boxes get half off.
Wriothesley : Ah! That explains it then.
Wriothesley : Well, go ahead and leave them to me. I'll get through this stash as fast as I can.
Neuvillette : You have my thanks.
Neuvillette : There's something else I'd like to give to you.
Wriothesley : This is...
Wriothesley : A stone... slate? Engraved with a symbolic design?
Neuvillette : While that is an apt description, it is, in actuality, a legal codex.
Wriothesley : ...A legal codex, huh... Hmm...
Neuvillette : Before the advent of modern writing utensils, information was recorded on stone slabs such as this. The law was no different.
Wriothesley : Okay...
Neuvillette : Since ancient times, the scales of justice have symbolized the fairness and impartiality of judiciousness.
Neuvillette : As a tribute to that sentiment, this slate was designed after a traditional legal codex and engraved with the symbol instead of text.
Neuvillette : During my travels recently, I chanced upon a roadside stall offering tourists the opportunity to try their hand at the ceramic arts... So I decided to have a go...
Neuvillette : We joked with Clorinde some time ago about gifting you a legal codex. So, here you go.
Wriothesley : Ah, so that's what this is about.
Neuvillette : I did not expect you to remember it as well. In any case, I hope this can be considered as a reasonable attempt to join in on the banter.
Wriothesley : It is a very good attempt.
Wriothesley : I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Even your sense of humor centers around the law. That's an impressive level of commitment.
Wriothesley : A gift of this significance deserves to be put on display, and I know just the place... Front and center in the Fortress's showroom.
Neuvillette : Ah, surely there's no need for such a grand gesture...
Wriothesley : Just kidding. I don't have anything like a showroom.
Wriothesley : But we do have a storage room... We can put it next to all the mechanical parts Sigewinne has collected.
Neuvillette : That sounds good to me.

The Truth of What Was (Sigewinne`s Story Quest)
Paimon : Oh... Neuvillette and Wriothesley! They're here too!
Neuvillette : Good to see you, Player, Paimon. I trust all has been going well for you.
Wriothesley : Big news, everyone: The Iudex is out of his office on important business.
Neuvillette : Hmm? Is that genuinely something people would consider "big news"?
Wriothesley : Why wouldn't they? Important business is a big deal.
Neuvillette : Ah... Yes, you're quite right. When someone you care about requires emotional support, being there for them at the right time and place is of the utmost importance.
Neuvillette : After reading the Marechaussee Phantom's reports, I had a feeling a trip here might be in order.
Wriothesley : Take note — that, my friends, is how Monsieur Neuvillette shows that he cares. We're both here for the same purpose, actually — to accompany Sigewinne as she pays her respects to her late teacher.
-- The Truth of What Was
Neuvillette : On behalf of the Marechaussee Phantom, I would like to once again thank the Fortress of Meropide for your assistance in the response to yesterday's prisonbreak.Wriothesley : Our Head Nurse and Player and Paimon did most of the heavy lifting, I would say.
Neuvillette : Sigewinne seems to be in good spirits. I trust work hasn't been too hard on her lately?
Wriothesley : Well, she might be the only permanent medical staff in the Fortress, but there's plenty of people with medical knowledge willing to help her out.
Neuvillette : I am most relieved to hear it.
Wriothesley : Haha, the way you're asking after her wellbeing makes you sound like a concerned parent.
Neuvillette : Ah, well, I won't lie... I've always seen myself that way.
Wriothesley : Showing your age a bit there, don't you think...
Neuvillette : Indeed. Actually, I often forget just how much older I am than you...
Wriothesley : Well, while we're on the topic... What did you do before getting this job, anyway? Spend all day swimming in the sea, from east to west, then south to north?
Neuvillette : Yes, and uh... from the surface to the ocean floor, on occasion.
Wriothesley : Wow. Impressive.
Neuvillette : ...Apologies, that was merely an attempt at humor. You can disregard what I said.
Wriothesley : Hah, that's impossible, I'm afraid. My imagination's already running wild.

An Overnight Fantasyland (Whirling Waltz) In the version 5.6 Event, 'Whirling Waltz', Neuvillette and Wriothesley communicate extensively with each other and other characters. However, only their personal moments (most of) will be highlighted here.
Wriothesley: I know you mentioned a while back that people from Natlan would soon start showing up all over the world, but I hadn't expected anything like this.
Neuvillette: It seems no matter where they come from, all dragons are inquisitive by nature...
Cacucu: You can say that again, bro!
Neuvillette: The same might well be said for humankind.
Neuvillette: The real reason you chose to stay to investigate this case was your curiosity about Natlan and Mr. Cacucu, was it not?
Wriothesley: Haha, guilty as charged. Nothing gets past you.
Wriothesley: So, how about we take this opportunity to chat a little more? We've got the world's best translator on hand, after all.
--Whirling Waltz. Act I, an extra dialogue
A Series of Twists and Turns (Whirling Waltz)
Wriothesley: Ahh... Y'know, all this has made me realize that I'd quite like to have a pet.
Neuvillette: If that proves inconvenient within the Fortress of Meropide, perhaps you should consider finding a place in the Court of Fontaine?
Wriothesley: ...That actually sounds like a good idea.
Wriothesley: In the past, I always dismissed the idea of buying a property in the city. The prophecy about the floods meant it never seemed like a worthwhile investment. But now...
Neuvillette: This might be a good time for you to re-examine the documents I gave you regarding your title as Duke.
Wriothesley: Huh?
Neuvillette: Citizens with honorary titles are eligible for certain benefits when purchasing property in the Court of Fontaine.
Wriothesley: Really?
Neuvillette: How about this: You read through your documents from start to finish, while I write up the lost-and-found notice.
--Whirling Waltz. Act II, an extra dialogue
Wriothesley: On the topic of kidnapping cases...
Neuvillette: Hm?
Wriothesley: How exactly do we define the subject of a kidnapping? According to the regulations, I mean.
Wriothesley: Aside from humans, do pets count? What about sentient non-human beings?
Wriothesley: Of course, Melusines go without saying, but what about a being like Cacucu?
Neuvillette: I am surprised that you're unfamiliar with the legal provisions on this matter.
Wriothesley: Haha, if I knew all the laws like the back of my hand, I wouldn't have ended up in the Fortress of Meropide, would I?
Neuvillette: ...That is no laughing matter, Wriothesley.
--Whirling Waltz. Act II, an extra dialogue [2]
The Price of Every Price (Whirling Waltz)
Chevreuse: We're currently questioning the suspect connected to gray-market gambling operations. We'll keep you all posted as soon as we have any new information.
Neuvillette: Your efforts are much appreciated.
Wriothesley: Sounds like I'm no longer needed here. Guess I'll be on my way...
Neuvillette: One moment.
Neuvillette: As a key witness, you may be called upon to attend the follow-up trial, Mr. Wriothesley.
Wriothesley: Oh no... For real, bro?
Chevreuse: ?
Wriothesley: Sorry, I meant... Could I maybe attend anonymously?
Chevreuse: Uh... How exactly would that work? Do you even hear yourself?
--Whirling Waltz. Act III, an extra dialogue
Fanon[]
The ship began when Neuvillette and Wriothesley’s designs were unofficially revealed via a multitude of Fontaine character design leaks. Although not much was known about them during that time, people took note of various opposing elements in their designs and expressed how they gave off “enemies to lovers” or “old married couple” vibes. The two have contrasting designs, Wriothesley is messy, asymmetrical, and red, while Neuvillette is clean, symmetrical, and blue [1]. Many fans also thought they resembled Gepard and Sampo, a popular Honkai Star Rail ship (Much later fans noticed that they are also resembled Gallagher and Sunday, another Honkai Star Rail slash ship). All of this kickstarted the ship into popularity. Shippers also liked to joke about the two of them getting married in the Fontaine story, due to the fact that one of the leakers made a post on Twitter that in version 4.3 players would supposedly get a "beautiful wedding cutscene". Many fans accepted this as the truth, and this "leak" even appeared in some media sources.[2][3] This was one of the reasons why fans started creating fanart, fanfiction, and memes even though the two characters had yet to be released.
Once the Overture Teaser was released, along with the JP voice actors, the ship gained even more popularity. Especially since fans noticed Wriothesley’s JP voice actor is Daisuke Ono, while Neuvillette’s is Hiroshi Kamiya. Ono and Kamiya are close friends and are known for voicing popular slash pairings. A few examples are Erwin and Levi, and Shizuo Heiwajima and Izaya Orihara respectively.
Wriothesley and Neuvillette are both seen as father figures to Sigewinne, and this has been a popular interpretation of their characters ever since the Overture Teaser’s release where Wriothesley was shown at his desk with Sigewinne, avoiding taking one of her milkshakes. Both Wriothesley and Neuvillette’s voice lines about Sigewinne further support this headcanon, Neuvillette’s voice lines state that he is often worried about Sigewinne’s wellbeing, and Wriothesley states that she has picked up many habits from him and that she and her friends often decorate his gloves with stickers, which he is not particularly bothered by. In addition, Neuvillette is the caretaker of the melusines, was the one who led them to Fontaine, and has a very strong personal bond with them. Wriothesley is similar, working closely with many melusines, having a similar bond with the ones he works with, and is often featured together with Sigewinne, even referring to her as “my dear Sigewinne”.
A lot of fanworks depict Wriothesley asking out/flirting with Neuvillette. There has also been a lot of fanart showing Wriothesley being protective of Neuvillette because of this tweet. In some fanworks, their personalities are often portrayed as opposites, especially pre-release depictions with Wriothesley being the teasing and playful one while Neuvillette is the serious and responsible one. This is mostly due to older reference sheets and concept art leaks, which show Neuvillette with a serious expression and Wriothesley with a smug smile. However, change between the facial expressions seen on leaks and the character’s actual in-game personalities and canonical artwork was inevitable. While some depictions based on past interpretations still exist within fan-works, fans have also shifted to embrace more current depictions of the characters, some of which still mimic their past respective playful and stern expressions, but have also opened up to include more kind and tender depictions of the pair which have become increasingly popular, especially after fans observed their often paternal relationships with the melusines and frequent displays of selflessness.
The ship has become extremely popular in the fandom due to Wriothesley's perceived flirtations with Neuvillette gathered from the Archon Quest, the pair’s respective “about” character voice lines as well as their strong bond, regarding each other as one of the few important people in their lives as a result of the personal relationship that formed between them after Wriothesley’s release from prison and subsequent instatement as Meropide’s administrator. Another big boost in popularity came after the Lantern Rite festival in version 4.4, where Neuvillette gifted Wriothesley a hand-made codex and a large supply of tea, wanting to join the bet. What's also interesting is that the festival took place almost on the eve of Valentine's Day, which led some fans to believe that this was more than just a coincidence.
Many fans have observed how Wriothesley is notably more expressive when talking to Neuvillette than many other characters. He smiles more, and is often shown being extra attentive towards Neuvillette, especially when he seems to be deep in thought or appears bothered. This attentiveness is highlighted within Neuvillette’s story quest, where Wriothesley can be seen reassuring Neuvillette over his insecurities about his reputation within Fontaine, and helping alleviate many of Neuvillette’s worries. During Fontaine’s Archon Quest, Wriothesley is again shown with this demeanor, as he lightly teases Neuvillette with him even alluding to having observed aspects of Neuvillette’s true identity. As it will be confirmed much later in version 5.6, Wriothesley has indeed known about the true identity of Neuvillette for quite some time.
Certain looks on Wriothesley and Neuvillette are very common in the fandom and are often used in fan works. Wriothesley is almost always depicted as slightly taller, more muscular and masculine, strong and sarcastic, while Neuvillette is usually portrayed as slightly shorter, more similar to his in-game appearance, though sometimes with more feminine and soft features, calm and fragile. These looks on the characters only became more popular after August 2024, when miHoYo hired cosplayers who matched these types for one of the official events. This led fans to believe that miHoYo supported their common headcanon. As for Neuvithesley, the situation is a bit different: Neuvillette is portrayed as more confident and decisive, and his "dragon" features are often described in detail, not only in terms of his Hydro Sovereign powers, but also in terms of his physical characteristics. Wriothesley`s character is often left unchanged, except for the fact that he is often portrayed as more soft and pliable.
In fanfiction, they are often enough depicted as secretly in love. They are also often helped to get together by Sigewinne, and given that she looks very much like Cupid, including her appearance, her visuals and weapon (a bow), that headcanon about Sigewinne literally being a "matchmaker" between them became even stronger, especially after her release in game. Fans also love angst very much. Most often, this is because Wriothesley is mortal and Neuvillette is immortal, and one of them is bound to suffer in many stories. However, most people still prefer a happy ending, so such stories usually end with salvation (for example, through the transfer of vitality or part of Neuvillette`s immortality). Also, following the events of "Whirling Waltz" (5.6) and Neuvillette's offer to buy a house in Fontaine, there has been a lot of fanworks depicting them living together.
Due to existing aspects of Wriothesley and Neuvillette’s relationship that resemble points found in several typical romance stories, many fans often joke about how Hoyoverse themselves are constantly attempting to outdo the people of the fandom in writing their romance.
As with other popular m|m ships in Genshin Impact, Wriolette has a number of haters who try to invalidate or distort the true essence of the ship, as well as spreading misinformation. Their main "arguments" are that Neuvillette and Wriothesley aren`t close, aren`t friends and don't communicate much; that Neuvillette "groomed" Wriothesley when he was a teenager; that Neuvillette sees Wriothesley as his "son"; that they shouldn`t be shipped because of their age difference and because of their mortal-immortal trope, or because it`s zoophilia, shotacon, p*do, etc. However, all of these accusations and statements are, of course, groundless and meaningless — none of them are worth paying any attention to.
Wriothesley and Neuvillette’s ship is currently the most popular Fontaine ship on AO3. On the website, they have 8000+ fanfics and are currently the 5th most popular ship on AO3 in the Genshin Impact fandom (and the 4th most popular romantic ship). Within several months, the ship made into to the top 100 AO3 pairings list of 2023, ranking at #68.
Within the first six months of 2024, the pair made it to AO3’s “Top Ships Written in 2024” list, ranking #17 overall and being the highest ranking Genshin ship on the list.

Trivia[]
- In the 4.1 preview page, Wriothesley and Neuvillette have an animation where they are featured together in Neuvillette’s office at night, they seem to be dodging each other's gaze.
- In 4.1 Livestream official art, they are also featured together in Neuvillette’s office at morning.
- At the end of September 2023, there was a fan illustration commissioned by Hoyoverse, where Neuvillette was humorously presented as a Disney Princess, and Wriothesley as his Prince.
- In the official chinese Genshin Impact store[4], their merch is almost always shown next to each other.
- Neuvillette represents law, Wriothesley represents order. Both law and order are needed together. They are inextricably linked and represent two sides of the same coin.
- In the early concepts of his design, Wriothesley had a blue feather ornament on his clothes, very similar to the decoration in Neuvillette`s hair.
- When Wriothesley and Neuvillette finish their NA combos, they both adjust their tie/neck accessories.
- Wriothesley and Neuvillette both have their names and birthday dates assigned by themselves.
- Neuvillette's least favorite dish is meat without sauce, Wriothesley's special dish is BBQ meat with a special sauce.

Wriolette + Geese
- In Fontaine, there are two types of geese, the Darkwing Goose and Snow-winged Goose. Fans have pointed out that these two geese share a multitude of similarities between Wriothesley and Neuvillette, in both appearance and description, thus associating the birds with the ship. The Snow-winged goose is described as being beloved by Fontainians and is seen as a symbol of nobility, loyalty, and purity similar to Neuvillette, while also possessing the same blue and white color palette. Darkwinged geese on the other hand were once outcasts of the geese and were looked down upon by Fontainians, but eventually gained a better reputation as the times changed. Because of this, people who were once seen in low regard but proved themselves otherwise and gained a better reputation are called "dark-winged geese", and Wriothesley conveniently fits this description, having initially been criminal and an "outcast", and eventually gaining the title of "Duke". These geese also share the same red and black color palette as Wriothesley. These two types of geese are often found together as pairs throughout the Fontaine map, notably making the iconic heart symbol in a lake found in Erinnyes.
- In China, geese are seen as a symbol for marital bliss and partnership as they mate for life.
- During the 4.1 cutscene, Wriothesley and Clorinde try to contain the Primordial Sea in a tense scene, but as soon as Neuvillette arrives Wriothesley seems to calm down immediately, and even reverts to a somewhat sarcastic and playful demeanor towards him despite the impending threat.
- During Neuvillette's web event "Suddenly the Rain Stops", Wriothesley was present. He was one of the main interactable characters during Incident 3 of the event, which showed Wriothesley handing over a resignation letter to the melusine Aeife while Neuvillette was presiding over a trial.
- In Wriothesley's web event "Cogs in the Machine", Wriothesley can be seen again with the option to send Neuvillette a resignation letter, with this added context it can be gathered that the stories of pair’s web events are connected, and that the resignation letters were a form of Wriothesley teasing Neuvillette and Aeife, and were not genuine. This indicates that Wriothesley and Neuvillette are close enough to be casual and joke around with each other, and that their relationship doesn’t strictly adhere to the usual professionalism that other characters typically display with the pair.
- Wriothesley and Sigewinne have a few parallels with Vautrin and Carole, with whom Neuvillette was very close in the distant past. Both Wriothesley and Vautrin are mortals with a strong will, a keen sense of justice, both lost their relatives and both were convicted by Neuvillette and ended up in Meropide for murder. Sigewinne and Carole are both melusines, both kind-hearted and once suffered from ridicule and bullying by people. In the present, it seems that Neuvillette has decided to correct his mistakes of the past, helping Wriothesley return to normal life after his imprisonment, and taking much more care of Sigewinne.

Vautrin&Carole, Wriothesley&Sigewinne
- In Wriothesley's “About Neuvillette” voiceline, Wriothesley says he held out an umbrella for Neuvillette, which is a common trope within romance manga/k-dramas.
- In Wriothesley’s voice line titled “More About Wriothesley: V” it reads "I've managed to get myself to a pretty comfortable place in life, but there's still some things I want that are outside my reach, like a peaceful and happy childhood, or the ability to trust other people." This voice line shows that Wriothesley has quite a hard time trusting people. Despite this fact, in canon Neuvillette is one of the very few people Wriothesley genuinely trusts, respects, and cares for.
- In Sigewinne`s Character Story 3 it was once again confirmed that Wriothesley has major trust issues. He categorically doesn`t believe that Neuvillette could genuinely care about him, due to his official obligations, which do not allow him to get close even to his own subordinates. He also claims that it was not Neuvillette who saved him from starvation, but a Melusine who gave him food. However, in reality, Neuvillette was the one who gave the Melusine the task of feeding him, breaking the law that Melusines are not allowed to help people due to their cruelty.
- «...» Neuvillette's reply that time came a good while earlier than usual. He seemed to have recognized the young man Sigewinne had mentioned, and requested that she took close care of him. Although he wrote in the same officialese as usual, Sigewinne could sense that he was following this young man with interest.

Wriothesley`s NY 2025 gift to Neuvillette/Neuvillette`s gift for Wriothesley`s BD 2024
- Despite Neuvillette claiming that he abstains from personal relationships, especially with Fontainians in an attempt to remain impartial in court, Wriothesley is the only playable character Neuvillette has outwardly described himself as having a “personal relationship” with apart from the traveler.
- What's also curious is that for some reason Neuvillette prefers not to say why he trusts Wriothesley so much.
- The small gift box in Wriothesley's official birthday chibi art has a color palette that resembles Neuvillette's, suggesting that it was a gift from him to Wriothesley.
- Also, on the official 2025 New Year's art was a gift with familiar blue ribbon, over which was a red ribbon with Wriothesley's wolf symbol. It is likely implied that this gift was prepared by him for Neuvillette.
- Henry Neville and Henry Wriothesley, 3rd Earl of Southampton, are two historical persons who may have acted as inspiration for Neuvillette and Wriothesley.
- Henry Wriothesley, 3rd Earl of Southampton is best remembered as a patron of William Shakespeare.[5]
- The connection between Henry Wriothesley and Genshin Impact’s Wriothesley can be gathered from the description of Wriothesley’s Elemental Skill “Icefang Rush”, that contains an excerpt from William Shakespeare’s Sonnet 1, which reads: "Defy your fate, or else this glutton be, to pay your fate's due, by the crime and thee.” The identity of the “fair youth” whom Shakepeare’s Fair Youth sonnets reference is widely believed to have been Henry Wriothesley, and this theory also has connections to theories of William Shakespeare’s real identity being that of Henry Neville. Due to these sonnets being referenced within Wriothesley’s own character profile, Henry Wriothesley is currently the strongest candidate for being the character’s namesake.
- William Shakespeare dedicated two narrative poems, "Venus and Adonis" (1593) and "The Rape of Lucrece" (1594), to Henry Wriothesley, the 3rd Earl of Southampton. These dedications are considered to be among the most famous and intriguing dedications in English literature.[6]
- In the introductory prose dedication of The Rape of Lucrece, Shakespeare expresses a dedication to the Earl of Southampton. The opening line conveys the idea that the poet's devotion to the Earl is without end.
- From William Shakespeare's play "Julius Caesar," comes the famous quote, "He that loves to be flattered is worthy of the flatterer."
- The Shakespearean quote suggests that someone who enjoys being flattered is deserving of the flatterer. While the quote "He that loves to be flattered is worthy of the flatterer" from William Shakespeare's play "Julius Caesar" is generally interpreted in a negative light, suggesting that those who enjoy being flattered are deserving of the individuals who flatter them, it is possible to consider a more positive interpretation. In Neuvillette's voiceline about Wriothesley, there is an implication that Wriothesley has flattered Neuvillette, leading to the establishment of trust and relationship.
- Neuvillette's acknowledgment of flattery in the context of his relationship with Wriothesley aligns with the Shakespearean quote. The implication is that Wriothesley, by flattering and showing loyalty, has contributed to Neuvillette's positive perception of him. The reciprocity suggested in the Shakespearean quote can be seen in the dynamic between Neuvillette and Wriothesley, where the trustworthiness and reputation of Wriothesley are portrayed as a result of Neuvillette's efforts and, potentially, his susceptibility to flattery.
- Henry Neville is the theorized real identity of Shakespeare.[7][8] Neuvillette was referred as "Lord Neville" in the Narzissenkreuz "A Story" note.[9]
- The Old French name "Neuville" is the origin of the Old English name Neville. "Neu" and "ville" are Old French terms that signify "new" and "town" or "settlement," respectively. The name changed over time and became Neville. It has been used as a surname as well as a given name.[10] Both the Surnames “Neuville” and “Neuvillette” are variations of the same surname.
- It is quite coincidental that Henry Neville and Henry Wriothesley, who were rumored to be lovers and were imprisoned together in the Fortress of the Tower of London can both be tied to in-game text relating to both characters — Prison is also a location related with Wriothesley, and imprisonment is a theme heavily associated with his story.
- Neuvillette and Wriothesley contain references to Hades, the Greek God of the Underworld, and Persephone, the Greek Goddess of Spring, one of Greek mythology’s most famous married couples.
- Wriothesley’s design contains Hades’ symbol of the bident throughout its entirety, appearing on the heel and toes of his shoes, his sleeves, the back of his coat, his belt, his handcuffs, his chains and ornamentation, and the front and back of his knees.
- The title of Neuvillette’s song in his trailer is “Eleusis Dicis Gratia”. Eluesis is most famous for being the site where the Goddess Persephone was to be rebirthed from the Underworld and return to her mother Demeter after her stay with the God Hades, and is heavily associated with Persephone’s relationship with Hades and the story surrounding the pair. Neuvillette is a character heavily associated with the theme of rebirth and fertility, just as Persephone is.
- The Fortress of Meropide is regarded as Fontaine’s “underworld” which Wriothesley is described as being the “king” of, just as Hades is widely known as having the title of “King of the Underworld.” Wriothesley’s desk and chair is positioned in a way where when he sits, he sits in the middle of the room with the figure of Cerberus looming behind him, just as Hades is frequently depicted as having Cerberus by his side or near his throne. Wriothelsey’s connection to the Greek underworld is solidified with his constellation, simply being named “Cerberus” and containing the image of Cerberus himself.
- In Neuvillette's story quest, when Wriothesley asked Neuvillette to stay and have tea with him, Neuvillette declined and said "我知道规矩的 (I understand the rules)".
- As Chief Justice he should not stay in a place for the exiles that he had judged lest he caused unwanted disturbance for Wriothesley. But then Wriothesley responded with "那看来只能由我来 '违规' 了(Seems like it's up to me to break the rules then)" so that Neuvillette can stay longer.
- The constellations associated with characters in Genshin Impact often mirror their roles and story elements in the game's lore.
- Neuvillette's constellation titled “Leviathan Judiciary” draws parallels to the intricate world of Fontaine. Just as the Leviathan separates the lower world from the realm of the gods, Fontaine features two contrasting sides – the bright and cheery court, and the less fortunate slums where those who have failed a trial reside. In the afterlife, souls must traverse the 7 spheres of the heavens, mirroring the 7 stages of a trial in court. Furthermore, Leviathan's responsibility for delivering punishment aligns with Neuvillette's role in delivering consequences to those found guilty.
- Wriothesley's constellation, Cerberus, alludes to the mythical three-headed dog guarding the underworld in Greek mythology. Similarly, Wriothesley plays the role of a figurative Cerberus in the fortress of Meropide, preventing people from leaving and maintaining a strict order within the confines of the fortress. This clever alignment of constellations with in-game roles adds an extra layer of depth to the storytelling and character development in the world of Genshin Impact.
- This common symbolic topic of guardianship and separation could be seen as a plot device to emphasize their complimentary roles or to bring them together.
- At the end of the version 4.2 archon quest, Neuvillette can be seen strolling at the entrance of Fortress of Meropide where we talk to him and ask him questions. It suggests that he was looking after the people of the Fortress after the events happened.
- In 4.4 Lantern Rite Hustle and Bustle world quest, he also seen by Paimon and Traveler standing by at the entrance of Fortress of Meropide in Opera Epiclese.
- The entrance to the Fortress of Meropide in at the Opera Epiclese is where Neuvillette and Wriothesley meet up in the event, when Neuvillette gives his gifts to Wriothesley.
- It was then confirmed during this event's world quest dialogue that Neuvillette considers the entrance to the Fortress of Meropide to be an area that is peaceful, quiet, one that he finds himself enjoying a great deal, and finds himself at willingly when he wants to enjoy his time alone.
- In one of dialogues with Wriothesley, when Paimon said that he could offer Neuvillette to stay in Meropide for a while if he needed his help, he countered that a Iudex would never trade the surface to live in such awful place. His answer generally suggests that he would not mind Neuvillette living in Meropide, and to some extent regrets that it is impossible.
- In various official arts, Wriothesley can be seen beside a book that seems to be about the history of Remuria. It can also be seen in Neuvillette's office table, and the volume 2 in the Palais Mermonia’s shelves. It is implied that Neuvillette has been reading and studying Fontaine's history, while Wriothesley has been explicitly shown to have a keen interest in the history of Remuria.
- Both Wriothesley and Neuvillette share parallels with Remurian lore, specifically between Remus and Scylla.
- Wriothesley is shown to have great interest in Remuria, and even took inspiration from Remus’ ship “The Fortuna” to build his own ship, the Wingalet. The name Remus itself is derived from Rome’s founding story, where Remus alongside his brother Romulus were orphans raised by a wolf. Due to this very famous story, the name Remus is synonymous with wolves and wolf imagery, Wriothesley is an orphan who’s symbol is a wolf, and has many wolf motifs throughout his design.
- The figure of Scylla shares similarities to Neuvillette, being a dragon king during the time of Remuria, and having been described as a “white dragon”.
- In the Discover Teyvat Web Event Guide, the dish that Wriothesley and Neuvillette's both love is Jade Fruit Soup.
- Wriothesley and Neuvillette's signature weapon shares the same lore about Meropide.
- Neuvillette's signature weapon "Tome of the Eternal Flow" contains the history of the Fortress of Meropide. It follows the journey of the first watcher, who guides recruits through the oath and eventually passes away. As time passes, the order faces challenges and dwindles in numbers, with the fate of the last watcher remaining unknown.
- Wriothesley`s signature weapon "Cashflow Supervision" is upgrading with a material called "Broken Goblet of the Pristine Sea", which contains information about king Remus.
- Both of their weapons upgrade materials sharing the same dungeon "Echoes of the Deep Tides".
- The most suitable set of artifacts for both Wriothesley and Neuvillette, "Marechaussee Hunter", is also sharing the same dungeon "Denouement of Sin".
- They are parallels and at the same time opposites.
- Wriothesley prefers tea, Neuvillette loves water.
- Wriothesley wears red cloak, Neuvillette wears blue robe.
- Wriothesley`s Arkhe is Ousia, Neuvillette`s Arkhe is Pneuma.
- Wriothesley's dish is meat, Neuvillette's dish is soup.
- Wriothesley rules the underground, Neuvillette rules the overground.
- Wriothesley is the Order, Neuvillette is the Law.
- There is a contrast with Wriothesley expressing his dislike for Sigewinne's milkshake, considering it desolate in taste, while Neuvillette loves it, even complimenting its flavor. This situation encapsulates the olive theory.
- Both Wriothesley and Neuvillette act as a family towards the melusines, considering how both are deeply bonded and care for them. A headcanon that is famous with the fandom is that they seem to be co-parenting with Sigewinne based on Neuvillette's voice line about her.
- Wriothesley commemorated his birthday in a heartwarming celebration, surrounded by the cherished presence of the melusines. The joyful occasion was marked by their endearing gesture of adorning his office with stickers, symbolizing the strong familial bond they share.
- Same with Neuvillette, during his birthday, received a gift from Kiara, visited the Merusa Village, creating memories with the melusines. At his office, he had a water-tasting party with the melusines too.
- Neuvillette trusts Wriothesley very much in many aspects, as he has repeatedly said directly in the game itself.
- "I place great trust in Wriothesley, so I rarely visit the Fortress of Meropide. However, exceptional circumstances call for exceptional measures... I hope I didn't cause him too much trouble." - Neuvillette talk about him in his own story quest[11]
- "I haven't communicated with him much, but Neuvillette claims he's trustworthy, so I suppose he must be a good person. Oh, come to think of it, I've received some tea from Wriothesley before and it was exquisite!" - Furina`s voice line about Wriothesley[12]
- "Though I trust Wriothesley very much, and he has often reminded me not to worry about Sigewinne's situation; a heart that cares often would not cease its caring, like the ceaseless waters of a spring. This is the responsibility and duty of becoming a guardian." - Neuvillette mentions Wriothesley in Sigewinne`s showcase trailer.
- Considering that Wriothesley grew up having trust issues due to his past life experiences, he emphasized the ease of communication when dealing with Neuvillette, expressing a huge willingness to show respect and accommodate him.
- The release date of the 4.4 Lantern Rite world quest, Hustle and Bustle was three days prior before Valentine's Day, and Neuvillette made a gesture of gift giving which is a common thing during the holiday, especially between lovers. Gift giving to loved ones is also a staple in the traditions surrounding the holiday of Chinese New Year.
- Wriothesley and Neuvillette's business relationship seems to resemble the current situation with the npcs Jurieu and Lourvine.
- As stated by Wriothesley to the pair Jurieu and Lourvine, he remarks "[s]ee, everyone keeps asking questions. Are you two sure you're not a couple, and just using your work as a convenient cover?"
- In the case of Wriothesley and Neuvillette's relationship, the question arises due to the frequent interaction and coordination between them despite the Fortress of Meropide being independent from Fontaine's court system. This independence might lead one to wonder why they still need to communicate so closely, or why Neuvillette regards themselves as having a “personal relationship” instead of a working or business relationship. Wriothesley's response about the necessity of coordinating for providing mechanical products for official use and obtaining essential goods from the overworld serves as a plausible explanation. Despite their independence, practical matters still require them to work closely together. However, Neuvillette's aforementioned acknowledgment of a personal relationship with Wriothesley suggests that their collaboration might indeed extend beyond professional matters, as the definition of a personal relationship is described as “an ongoing romantic or intimate personal relationship that can include, but is not limited to, dating, living together or being a partner or significant other.”[13]
- Wriothesley's badge in his left chest could be a reward from Neuvillette after giving him the "Duke" title.
- It is a possible case since Neuvillette has personally crafted medals in the past.
- Surprisingly, Wriothesley's wolf badge is more similar to Neuvillette's constellation and glowing antennae than it is to the three-headed dog that displays in Wriothesley's office. It also points out of how Wriothesley received the title from Neuvillette, who also gave Vautrin and Carole their badges and titles.
- In Chiori's web event "Captivating Couture", we once again encountered a melusine, Kiara, whom will be the model for Chiori's tailored dress. Surprisingly, the local specialty used for the dresses Kiara wore are all connected to Wriothesley and Neuvillette.
- The local specialty options are Lumitoile (Neuvillette's Ascension Material), Sub detection unit (Wriothesley's Ascension Material), and last but not the least a Sakura Blossom.
- The Sakura blossom could be a nod to Neuvillette's voice-line regarding Wriothesley. A blossoming sakura. A well-known flower in Inazuma. Neuvillette's shared saying is also an Inazuman proverb; "The words unspoken are the flowers"

Neuvillette & Wriothesley`s ornaments
- While Wriothesley and Neuvillette wear jewels with distinct orientations, they share a common feature of showcasing a gradient of red and blue hues. Neuvillette's gems transition from red at the top to blue at the bottom, whereas Wriothesley's jewels displays it similarly but in reserval, starting with blue at the top and transitioning to red at the bottom.
- Neuvillette and Wriothesley's JP voice actors acted in a BL ("Boys` Love") audio play called "Kotonoha no Hana" before as the two love interests.[14] The play's title is the literal translation of Neuvillette's "about" Wriothesley voiceline - the Inazuman (japanese) proverb - "The words unspoken are the flowers."
- Neuvillette’s EN voice actor Ray Chase mentioned “wriolette” in a tweet he made and posted[15] where he promoted Joe Zieja’s (Wriothesley’s EN voice actor) acting class, calling him his “OTP”. Also he had publicly liked wriolette tagged posts and artworks on Twitter.
- Joe Zieja also voiced[16] his character's line from one of the popular Wriolette fanfiction for its author as part of the paid comission.
- Characters in the game are known to react to points of interest or other nearby characters by turning their heads to it. Some fans have found that in some situations, Neuvillette and Wriothesley react exclusively to each other, ignoring others, regardless of their height or gender. An example #1
- In DGS (Dear Girl Stories) ep 864, JP voice actors of Neuvillette & Wriothesley, HiroC (Hiroshi Kamiya) and OnoD (Daisuke Ono) mentioned their Genshin characters because of a fan's letter, discussing their roles in the popular game Genshin Impact. According to HiroC, he felt a sense of destiny in their role and OnoD agrees. The remark probably alludes to their participation in the well-known game Genshin Impact and the fact that OnoD and HiroC were both simultaneously released as game characters. HiroC thus implies that their simultaneous appearance in Genshin Impact seems as though it was predetermined for them to be a part of it.
- Hoyoverse released an official demo video for Sigewinne’s character that showed Neuvillette and Wriothesley sitting and fishing next to each other, which got many fans seeing it as them being on a date.
- On Hoyofair 2024 FlameFusion was released a fan animation with Sigewinne`s song. Neuvillette and Wriothesley appearing at the end of it, along with the melusines, dancing.
- An animation 光与影 Light and Shadow by 阿洋Yoko was posted on Hoyofair 2024, where was a short excerpt in which Wriothesley and Sigewinne came to Neuvillette`s office with a gift for him.
- A fan-animation called "Dive into the Mystery!" was posted on Hoyofair 2024 New Year, Neuvillette and Wriothesley were introduced at the end of the video with shadows of each other, representing two sides of the same coin.
- An animation work by KKOMDASTRO which was commissioned by Hoyoverse showed both Wriothesley and Neuvillette covered in Sigewinne’s stickers, giving more fuel to fans’ perception of them being Sigewinne’s parents.
- In Sigewinne's Character Teaser, Neuvillette is sitting behind his desk, reading a letter from Sigewinne. Melusine describes the current situation in Meropide through her eyes, and at the end, she mentions that she will surely visit him soon together with the Duke. After he finished reading the letter, Neuvillette raises his head, and his gaze falls on the opening door, behind which the first thing he sees is Wriothesley standing and talking with one of the guards. Immediately after, smiling Sigewinne appear around the corner along with Sedene - "Hope you're not too busy? Hee-hee, we're here!"

TCG Support Card

A lonely otter swimming near the window of the Fortress
- Neuvillette's favored Support card in TCG is the Fortress of Meropide.
- In version 4.8 we got dialogue from Emilie about Wriothesley where we are told that Neuvillette recommended her services to the Duke, but that he had to decline said services since he wants to make Meropide a less desirable place to stay.
- On Genshin FES, 2024, Neuvillette and Wriothesley`s TCG arts were together on the billboards, along with other popular Genshin mlm ships.
- Due Sigewinne's game release, the official Genshin Impact Twitter account reposted a cute fan-art with Neuvillette, Wriothesley and Sigewinne.

- Also, in June, 2024, there was a web event on Weibo which held to coincide with the Sigewinne`s game release, in which you had to create your own stickers. The main image of the event represented Sigewinne herself, as well as stickers of Wriothesley and Neuvillette as a wolf and a dragon.

GI x GIGO Collab, 2024
- On Genshin Impact x GIGO Collab, 2024, there was a limited card with chibi-Wriothesley, surrounded by otters. As previously known and confirmed (there`s an elegant Neuvillette-style cup is on sale in the official store, decorated with a cute otter that looks like him), otter is Neuvillette`s fursona.
- You can also find a lone otter with a seashell near one of the exterior underwater sides of the Fortress of Meropide, floating near a large window and looking inside.
- In Famitsu Magazine, 2024, there was a spread with these two together. On Wriothesley side it was written: "Neuvillette has such confidence in him that he has been granted the title of "Duke", Fontaine's highest title of honorary citizenship."

Genshin Anniversary Web Event, 2024
- On Genshin Anniversary Web Event, 2024, if you get Neuvillette in the event, there is a triple reference to the conversation between him and Wriothesley that occurred during the Sigewinne`s Story Quest.
- On Wriothesley’ Chibi Birthday Art, 2024, you can see the melusine Muirne, who was following him around with the intention of putting stickers on him. Now, you can only find this Melusine at the back door of Palais of Mermonia in-game. It is probably implied that Wriothesley could visit the Iudex and leave through the back door, and then Muirne saw him.
- In Genshin Radio Episode 97, 2024, with Shun Horie (Aether JP VA) and Aoi Koga (Paimon JP VA) as hosts, and Kino Hina (Sigewinne JP VA) as guest, they are played as Neuvillette, Wriothesley and Sigewinne, and made a cute family photo-session with "Wrio-chan" and "Neuvi-chan". There were a few moments when Horie and Koga intentionally stood very close to each other. Horie mentions at the start of Sigewinne's trailer how Neuvillette's interactions with Wriothesley and the others are very unique and distinctive.
- In July 2024, on some chinese offline event, Liu BeiChen [Wriothesley CN VA] had to pronounce several phrases of other characters in Wriothesley`s voice. He got the phrases of Vautrin, Sigewinne and Tartaglia. As a result, he slightly reworked Tartaglia's phrase, justifying it by saying that he did it to match Wriothesley`s character.
- "You`ve got your rules... Well, I`ve got mine too!" - Tartaglia to Neuvillette
- "NEUVILLETTE! You`ve got your rules... Then of course they are my rules too!" - Liu BeiChen

Genshin Booth C104, August 2024
- In August 2024, on another offline event in China, the voice actors of Neuvillette [Sang Yuze] and Wriothesley [Liu BeiChen] re-voiced their dialogue from the ending of the Sigewinne`s Story Quest in front of an audience.
- Also, there was a video where Neuvillette's CN VA [Sang Yuze] talking about how he actually first tried out voicing Wriothesley before landing the role for Neuvillette.
- For the official Genshin Booth C104, August 2024, Hoyoverse hired very popular cosplayers for portraying Neuvillette (@ZIII_FROM_ZUMI) and Wriothesley (@rava_hart), who are nice friends and colleagues. That event hugely fuels the famous headcanon that Wriothesley is much bigger and more muscular than Neuvillette. Also, ZUMI sweetly remarked that it was pleasant and unusual for them to feel so small next to such a strong and big man. There were a lot of sweet moments throughout the two days of the event. Neuvillette adjusted Wriothesley`s coat, playfully touched the jewelry on the back of it, twirled the handcuffs on his finger, they played with a toy crab together, etc. ZUMI also reposted a lot of wriolette artwork, which appeared based on all the photos from that event.
- In his birthday letter on December 18, 2024, Neuvillette recalled how he gave Wriothesley a lot of tea last year and expressed concern about his health. What is also very remarkable is that the gifts attached to the letter contained material for raising Wriothesley`s talents.
- In January, 2025, an off-line collaboration event titled "With Hearts Melu-nited, a Font of Warmth" was held with Shanghai Public Security & Xuhui Public Security. It features Wriothesley and Neuvillette together, as Law and Order. Cosplayers were spotted at the event (including Sigewinne), who had a small photo shoot. During it, Neuvillette and Wriothesley were handcuffed to each other.
- In Fontaine's regional trailer, the camera captures Sigewinne attempting to discreetly offer Wriothesley a milkshake instead of tea. They are startled by a noise from the pipes and glance directly at the camera, seemingly breaking the fourth wall. However, subsequent leaks from official text sheets revealed that Wriothesley and Sigewinne were, in fact, alerted to Neuvillette's approach to the Fortress of Meropide.

Wriothesley and small cutout from Sigewinne's demo
- On the eve of the long-awaited Wriothesley`s rerun (March 4th, 2025) was shown an illustration with a small cutout from Sigewinne's demo, in which they came to visit Neuvillette. Also, her phrase about Wriothesley refers to a similar phrase that she wrote in one of her letters to Neuvillette.
- At the beginning of version 5.6 [JP] livestream, April 25, 2025, Neuvillette and Wriothesley appeared walking towards the Debord hotel. They talked to each other and went to the hotel together. It also follows from this wonderful little dialogue that fan speculation that Wriothesley knew about Neuvillette's true identity all along has now finally been officially confirmed.

Wriothesley and Neuvillette, 5.6 [JP] livestream intro
Wriothesley: Animals that speak... Come to think of it, I wonder why can't dogs and cats learn human language?
Neuvillette: It may be because animal life is very different from that of humans. Even if they want to talk, they may not be able to learn so easily.
Wriothesley: I understand the reasons, but I want to teach them somehow.
Wriothesley: By the way, those dragons from Natlan have completely different origins than you do, don't they?
Neuvillette: Yes, there are still many interesting secrets to be discovered in Natlan.
Wriothesley: If that's the case, do you have any plans for us to travel there for a business trip in the future?
Neuvillette: We do not have such duties at the moment. Well, it's time to go. If it gets late, Debord hotel will already be closed.
Wriothesley: That's true.

Wriothesley on 5.6 livestream official art
- One of the official images from livestream 5.6 shows Wriothesley sitting at a table with a blue cup in his hand. Also, there is another cup on the table in front of him, identical to the cup from Neuvillette's office, which implies that Neuvillette is sitting opposite, outside the camera. Considering the fact that Neuvillette is the only character involved in the upcoming event, but not shown on the art, there is no doubt that it`s he who is sitting (or was sitting) in front of Wriothesley.
- Given the color of the Wriothesley`s cup, fans immediately assumed that he and Neuvillette has paired cups.
- 'Whirling Waltz', the main event on version 5.6, was a warm and welcome gift for all the fans of the ship. It featured interesting and enjoyable character development and interactions between them, many of which proved extremely memorable. For example:
- Before entering Neuvillette's office at the start of the event, you will have the opportunity to speak with the staff. Some will mention "strange noises" coming from the judge's office, while others will speculate that Neuvillette and Wriothesley are "arguing" inside. These comments may be considered as humourous teasing from the developers about something "spicy" happening in the office.
- A gamer who played the JP dub of Whirling Waltz pointed out that the use of "龍" in the sentence of conversation between Neuvillette and Wriothesley indicates that Neuvillette is just as curious as Wriothesley about Natlan and Cacucu, and that he is willing to discover more about them with the warden. In the JP dub, saurians are referred to as "竜", with the same "ryū" reading as "龍", but the dragon types are different, depending on which one of these kanjis is used.[17]
- In one of the dialogues Wriothesley expressed his desire to get a pet and Neuvillette responded by suggesting him to buy a house in Fontaine to make it real, which causes many fans immediately interpreted as a sign that they wanted to move in together as a couple.
- When Neuvillette tells Wriothesley about his property-buying privileges in Fontaine, Wriothesley looks genuinely surprised and even delighted, and for the first time he strikes a rather cute and vulnerable pose, which is unconventional for a character with such a serious and calm personality. Interestingly, a similar pose is often used for characters such as Kaveh and Kaeya, who also come from two other popular m|m ships.
- There were several moments during the event where Wriothesley planned to leave, but every time Neuvillette asked him to stay. Fans immediately started joking that Iudex really wanted him to stay [with him] a bit longer, so he skillfully found various indirect reasons for that purpose.
- Previously, in JP dub, Neuvillette had always addressed Wriothesley with the honorific suffix "-dono", which is used to show respect and deference towards someone of a high social standing. However, in one of the dialogue scenes where Neuvillette was frustrated by Wriothesley's unfortunate joke about his imprisonment, he dropped the honorific for the first time and addressed him by his name alone. Dropping honorifics, also known as yobisute (呼び捨て), usually indicates a highly intimate relationship between two people. It means the speaker is addressing the person to whom he is speaking in an intimate and familiar manner usually restricted to family, spouses, or one's closest friends. Also, many fans noted that at that moment Neuvillette, who was standing with his hands on his hips, looked like an "annoyed husband".
- In the final dialogue between Neuvillette, Wriothesley and Chevreuse, in the EN dub, Wriothesley jokingly refers to Neuvillette as “bro” (clearly after dealing with Cacucu). Despite being slightly embarrassed by that himself, it shows his high level of comfort and trust, especially considering that he is usually polite and courteous.
