Wuthering Waves is an open-world action role-playing game developed and published by Kuro Games, set in the post-apocalyptic world of Solaris-3
Plot[]
Wuthering Waves unfolds in the futuristic, post-apocalyptic world of Solaris-3, a planet scarred by a catastrophic event known as the Lament. This disaster nearly eradicated humanity and gave rise to the Waveworn Phenomenon, spawning monstrous entities called Tacet Discords that threaten the remnants of civilization. Solaris-3 is divided into various regions, each governed by distinct factions and protected by Resonators—individuals who wield unique abilities to manipulate frequencies and combat the Tacet Discords. The story follows Rover, the playable protagonist, who can be either male or female depending on the player’s choice.
In an opening sequence shrouded in mystery, Rover, a wanderer of unknown origins, is caught in a cataclysmic event tied to The Lament. During this turmoil, they are separated from a significant part of their past, left with fragmented memories and a sealed power that once defined them. Awakening in Solaris-3 with no recollection of their journey, Rover finds themselves stranded in a world both alien and perilous, their purpose unclear.
Emerging from a deep slumber haunted by visions of their lost memories, Rover encounters Yangyang, a compassionate Resonator from the Midnight Rangers. Grateful for Rover’s unexpected arrival, Yangyang becomes their guide, helping them navigate the dangers of Solaris-3. Together, they set out on a quest to seek answers from the key figures and factions of Solaris-3, hoping to uncover the truth behind the Lament and Rover’s forgotten past.
As their journey unfolds, Rover discovers that their lost memories are not entirely out of reach—echoes of their past seem to guide them toward unraveling the mysteries of Solaris-3. Along the way, Rover forms bonds with a diverse cast of characters, including fellow Resonators and survivors, and becomes entangled in the conflicts and aspirations of Solaris-3’s regions, particularly the city-state of Jinzhou. Through these encounters, they begin to piece together the hidden forces shaping the world’s fate and their own role within it.
Although players can customize Rover’s name, certain characters address them by their true title, hinting at a deeper significance to their identity. As Rover’s journey progresses, they may unlock unique titles or monikers tied to their actions, such as a name symbolizing resilience or destiny, though these vary by region and story progression.
A supplemental narrative, explored through in-game lore and side content, takes place in the years leading up to Rover’s awakening. This content delves into the history of Solaris-3, the origins of the Lament, and the lives of key characters, providing deeper context to the world beyond Rover’s perspective.
